Schroder House

Architect: Gerrit RietveldLocation: Utrecht, NetherlandsDate: 1924 to 1925

The home was built for Ms. Truus Schröder-Schräder and her 3 children start-ing in 1924. Her criteria for the home was to have many multi purpose rooms that could be used for play rooms during the day and bed rooms at night. Schroeder came up with a system of moveable walls that would open up the bedrooms into a large play room. He also used many cantilevered decks and porches in his design. The home consisted of many geometric shapes and uses many colors, each having a specific purpose.

phase 1: researchThe first step was to gather as much information as possible about the house. This included information from dimensions and materials of the house, to the family and use of the home.

phase 2: plans and sectionsThe second step into the study of the building was to draw plans, sections, and the four exterior faces of the building to scale, and with all major detail.

phase 3: 3-d model + renderThe third step was to create a 3-d digital model to scale, which we could create more detailed drawing from such as additional section cuts or renderings.

phase 4: section perspectiveThe section perspective is a cut through the building, which was then manipulated to show additional detail. The cut plane was added and objects were placed in the building to give a sense of scale and usage of spaces.
