Music Video Analysis.
From the very start of the music video we experience plenty of things which refer to Goodwin's theory. Examples of this include…
‘The Notion of looking’ which is represented through the camera looking through a window.
Other examples are that the Visuals and lyrics match for example ‘I walked down to the ocean’ is played as a shot of the ocean appears and ‘after waking from a nightmare’ is sung when a monster appears through the window.
As the music video
progresses a dark and
dreary feel is continued
not only this but
Goodwin’s theory ‘the
notion of looking’. As we
can see in these shots a
man is positioned in the
centre of the screen with
a television on his head.
This is where Goodwin’s
theory enters.
The cinematography is used to develop a world created through the imagination. This is achieved through the use of dark atmosphere, the rough costumes and the props. This leaves the music video to have a fictional narrative. During the top shot we can see the man waking up, this focus emphasis on the aim to make the video have a fictional narrative and to help the audience to perceive that the Music Video is a dream.
Throughout the music
video we see numerous
shots of weird imaginative
things including a large
mans head in the middle of
an ocean and floating
people. This helps
represent the typical
conventions of indie Music
Videos being different and
unique.
Overall I feel that this was a good music
video to look at as it is incredibly typical of
the indie genre. The music video doesn’t
really see any of the band or typical live
performances or hold any close – ups of them
and this may represent that their image isn't
important only the music. This music video
was a good one to look at for Goodwin’s
theory although it goes against clos ups of
the band. The music video holds a fictional
narrative which will be similar to ours as we
wish to have narrative and I feel from looking
into this music video it is a good thing to do
so as it keeps it seeming interesting.
