The AR riflescopes custom knobs eliminate theguesswork for holdover. Just dial in the knowndistance and use the customized MOA WindMapto determine the hold-off for a 10 MPH wind.In the example above, at 400 yards you simplyhold 2.9 tick marks into a 10 MPH wind forpinpoint accuracy.

Note: It is important that you provide Burris with the mostaccurate load and environmental information as possiblewhen requesting your free custom knob. Burris warrants thateach custom knob will be calibrated mathematically correctfor the data you provide. Burris is not responsible for anyinaccuracy to the actual trajectory realized by velocity, ballisticcoefficient, or environmental variances in field conditionscompared to the data provided by you or an ammo/bulletmanufacturer for preparing a custom knob.

3. If choosing a handload, either obtain theactual muzzle velocity or estimate the muzzlevelocity based on your reloading manual.

4. Make note of the scopeserial number on thebottom portion of theadjustment turret.

5. Log on to www.BurrisOptics.com, enter theBallistic Services section and click on theCustom Knob Online Order Form.

Installing Your Custom Elevation Knob

1. It is best to sight-in your riflescope prior toinstalling your custom knob.

2. Being carefulnot to rotate theelevation knob, loosen the threeset screws thathold the elevationknob in place. Liftthe knob up andoff of the scope.

3. Place the customknob onto yourscope, aligningyour sight-inyardage numberto the referencemark on thescope.

4. Apply a smallamount ofdownwardpressure ontothe custom knoband then evenlytighten the threeset screws. Turnyour custom knob about a half-turn counter-clockwise and then clockwise back to yoursight-in distance to get a feel for the amountof resistance to turn the clicker. If you desiremore or less resistance, loosen the three setscrews and apply more or less downwardpressure onto the custom knob; retighten theset screws. Retest and reset the resistanceuntil satisfied.

Parallax/Focus Adjustment

Parallax is the apparent movement of the reticlein relation to the target when the eye is notdirectly in line behind the center of the scope.Images from different distances focus in front ofor behind the scope’s reticle. Parallax is morenoticeable with higher magnification scopes.

Parallax is adjusted by rotating the parallaxadjustment ring located on the objective bell. When the scope is set parallax-free for thedistance you are viewing, you should be able tomove your head side-to-side or up and downwithout seeing the reticle move appreciably inrelation to the target.

Windage/Elevation Adjustment Note: Custom knobs must be removed beforemaking any adjustments. The low profile adjustment knobs feature a fingeradjustment for both windage and elevation.Once you have successfully zeroed your scope, you can reset the zero on your dials with thesesimple steps:

1) With turret caps removed, grip knob top firmlyto keep knob from turning.

2) Put pen or othersmall object into thesmall hole locatedon the dial.

3) Keeping firm gripon the knob, use thepen to turn the dialback to zero, liningup the number zerowith the whiteindicator dot. Onlythe numbered dialshould move – do not allow the entire knob tomove or else you will alter your windage andelevation zero settings.

NOTE: You do not have to reset the zero on yourdials for your scope to function properly. Doingso can give you peace of mind that your zero isset, plus you can easily confirm if it has moved atany time, but this step is optional.

How to Use Your AR Riflescope

Calculating Holdover/Hold-OffThe custom knob ensures that elevationadjustment perfectly matches the ammunitionyou are shooting, and when used properlyeliminates the need to calculate holdover.Determining an accurate distance to yourtarget is key, and Burris recommends using arangefinder in the field for optimum accuracy.

Once the distance to your target is confirmed, turn the dial on your custom knob to matchthat distance. For example, if your target is 250yards away, turn your custom knob until 250 isaligned with the reference mark on your scope.Since the scope is calibrated to your cartridge, dialing the yardage to your target allows you touse the center point of the reticle crosshairs asyour aiming point – no holdover or under isneeded.

To correctly determine hold-off for wind, firstdetermine as best as you can the wind speed atyour target. Refer to the customized WindMapprovided by Burris that shows, in MOA, theaccurate hold-off value for a 10 MPH wind at aspecific 100-yard increment distance.

Using this WindMap as an example, if your targetis 200 yards away and the wind is blowing 10MPH, you will hold-off 1.3 reticle tick marks intothe wind. The wind is blowing 20 MPH? Doublethe value and hold-off 2.6 reticle tick marksinto the wind. It’s blowing only 5 MPH? Cut thevalue in half and hold-off .65 tick marks intothe wind.

Installing the WindMapEach WindMap is shaped so it can be easilyinstalled and used in multiple positions such asthe Objective Bell Taper, the Eyepiece, or theRiflestock.

Our recommendation is to install the WindMapon the Objective Bell taper approximately 10° –20° left or right of the top center depending onwhether you shoot right- or left-handed. Thisposition allows you to see the WindMap withyour “off-eye” while looking through the scope. It also provides for a somewhat protectedposition against scratching.

Locate exactly where you want to place theWindMap and clean the surface of any dust andoils with soapy water or rubbing alcohol. Peeloff the adhesive covering on the back of theWindMap and carefully install at your desiredlocation.

Eyepiece FocusingThe eyepiece can be focused so that the reticleappears sharp and black to your eyes. Followthis procedure to adjust the focus:

1. Point the scope at the sky or a plain wall andtake a quick glance through the scope. If thereticle appears sharp and black, no furtheradjustment is necessary.

2. If the reticle does not appear sharp andblack, take quick glances through the scopewhile rotating the focus ring until the reticlepattern is sharp and clear.

NOTE: Do not look through the eyepiece as youturn the focus ring. Your eyes will adjust to theout-of-focus condition.

Mounting the ScopeWe recommend high-quality rings and bases, like the Burris Xtreme Tactical Rings andXtreme Tactical Bases. Quality componentsensure that your scope will remain safely andsecurely mounted, and will provide themaximum accuracy. Use care when mountingyour scope as damage can be caused byimproper mounting.

Care & MaintenanceAR Riflescopes are fully waterproof andfogproof. In the event that the lenses aresubjected to dust, dirt or mud, follow thesesteps to clean and protect the lens surface.Failure to remove grit before final cleaning issure to damage lens coatings.

Coarse dirt/debris must be removed from thelens surface. The most convenient way toclean a lens surface is to use a Lens Pen.Position the scope so particles will fall awayfrom the lens, and then use the Lens Pen orsoft brush to gently whisk away the debriswhile blowing on the lens to dislodge theparticles. For heavy dirt, like dried mud, use aspray of clean water or lens cleaning fluid toremove the dirt.

Your Burris riflescope will provide a reliableperformance given reasonable care andtreatment. All moving assemblies arepermanently lubricated. Only occasionalcleaning of the outside of the scope and theexterior lenses is required. Never disassembleyour scope. Disassembly by anyone otherthan our factory will void the warranty. If youhave any other problems with your riflescope, please contact Burris Customer Service.
