The weekend will host “APTA’s 39th Annual Historic Home Tour,” “Cars for Kids” antique car show, amateur Backyard BBQ contest, music and much more. We are looking forward to a large turnout, as the festival always bring thousands of visitors to town each year. Be sure to make plans to be in town that weekend for great music, food and maybe a little history lesson. It should be a lot of fun for everyone of all ages. Every time you "Like" or "Share"something on our Facebook page, your friends will see it, too. Now that isa fast way to get the word out. Weneed to get more of our friends andfamily interested in APTA andpreserving our historic sites and theirhistory. Without your help and others, history will be lost to the ages.

I would like to express our appreciationto The County Journal for theircontinued support of APTA. The paperprints ads each week for us free, informing the public of events andmuseum openings. They are alsorunning a series each week on the150th Anniversary of the Civil War.This article features not only nationalevents but local events and familiesduring the terrible time in our history. All Civil Wars articles can be read here:https://sites.google.com/site/civilwarhardemancotn/home

The County Journal also each yearprints our "Home Tour Guide" anddistributes it in each paper. They sellads to supplement the cost of printingit for us. The main difference betweenthe County Journal and any otherpaper doing this service .... is theCounty Journal splits any profits withour chapter. Until the County Journalmade us this offer, no other paper hasever done this for us. So advertise inour tab and we still profit from it .... !!!

Continued from page 4With winter just about gone, it is timeto start thinking about our spring andsummer events for APTA. Our APTAAnnual Home Tour will be held alongwith the Hardeman County SpringFestival on April 27. We have lots ofwork to get ready for this tour. SheriffJohn Doolen has contributed workersto help out with yard work at ThePillars and Little Courthouse Museum.

RepairsRepairsRepairsRepairs atatatat TheTheTheThe PillarsPillarsPillarsPillarsKeeping buildings that are almost 200years old at times can be a challenge. As most of us know that with ownmodern homes, just trying to keep it alltogether, keeping us dry and warm isabout all we can handle at times. The Pillars and the Little Courthouseboth have survived through the ageswith a lot of tender loving care. Butsometimes repairs and upgrades cancause other problems. Sometimes notshowing these problems for years andyears. Such as the case at the Pillarslast year with foundation cracking. Thiscracking followed upward and into thehouse itself, causing interior walls tocrack and floors to sag. Unfortunatelythe damage was caused about 40years ago by APTA installing A/C in thehouse. Holes were improperly made inthe foundation for the ventilation ductworks and then not supported properly.Over the years, the problem begins. Thanks to APTA’s Endowment Fundgrant, we repaired the foundation andalso re-roofed all the buildings at The

Pillars. Ductwork was removed andholes in the foundation were bracedwith metal and wood. All the roofswere stripped to the decking and newroofing shingles installed.

Here are a few pictures of work beforeand after...

Foundation cut into and beams cut

Metal added for support and rebraced. This is just one of several walls workedon.
