work coordinating and setting up the Tallahassee Orchid Show. I wish to extend many thanks to the volunteers that helped with setup and breakdown. The Volusia County Orchid Show, which is our last away show for the year, is coming up May 9 and 10. We are still looking for volunteers to help. So far we have set up covered but not breakdown. We really need volunteers! Please let Barb Fennelly know at the April meeting if you can help. (continued p. 3) March was a good month for GOS with three events. At our March meeting a large variety of well grown orchids were auctioned to the highest bidder, often at bargain prices. I purchased four orchids. My favorite purchase was an Arachnis Maggie Oei, commonly called a Scorpion Orchid. I did not have anything in my orchid collection like it and could not pass it up. The annual PotIn at Chaz Darling’s home was a lot of fun. It is always a treat to visit Chaz’s greenhouse and see all of his beautiful orchids – plus there was pizza, wine, beer and great desserts. All of the new members that attended went home with an Oncidium sphacelatum. The Jacksonville Orchid Show was great fun for all who participated. Several of us helped Patti Hollien set up the GOS orchid display. We did a great job! And that is not just my opinion, the display won BestOfShow again this year and plants provided by our members brought home many ribbons. Carolyn Robinson states:

I’m so happy that spring is here...

I wet my plants!

A spring cleaning tip from Carolyn:

When it’s time to clean pots, first scrub well in warm soapy water, use a stiff brush to clean off algae. Then soak in a 10% bleach solution, 1:10 dilution to sterilize. Allow to dry and pot away!

Giang Pham and Kelly Korman had a great time at Chaz Darling’s Pot-In. New members got a pot-ting lesson and left with an Oncidium division to take home.
