Love of Learning

On April 6 & 7, be whisked away to a place where dreams are born and no

one ever grows up! Fourth and fifth grade students will entertain you with

their performance of the timeless musical, Peter Pan Jr. By joining the VIP

dinner event prior to the show you can experience the magic of Neverland

and meet actors face to face. Come and support our students. All proceeds

go to the fifth grade trip to Kanuga. For tickets: [email protected].

Joy of Service

This month’s outreach project focuses on service to the Earth. Students will

work at school and at Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center during

Trailwise classes to clean up grounds and improve hiking and nature trails.

A Lively Faith

The fun won’t stop when the school year ends! St. Peter’s School will host

eight weeks of summer excitement. Camp Discovery is open to the public

as well as our current students, ages 3 through fifth grade. Each themed

week will incorporate activities for children to act, cook, dance, build, and

create. To join us this summer, contact the school office at 870-1794.

Easter Celebrations

know that the Canons of the Church (from national to diocesan to lo-

cal congregation) give specific financial responsibility to the laity of the

Parish. You are claiming that and working hard to organize St.

Peter’s financial house. From software to management and ministry to

outreach, the financial order is being restored in a fine way. A new

Rector will appreciate this effort and will benefit from this strong lay

ministry leadership. Your prayers should include your own commit-

ment financially to this wonderful church home. “Stewardship/

Financial Matters” are always a focus for a healthy parish. You will be

more involved in this work in the weeks and months ahead.

“Training in Leadership Skills” is the work of putting together

committees to operate the programs of the parish. It starts with a strong

Vestry, which you have. Your Vestry is accepting this responsibility and

putting together Fellowship, Worship, Finance, Grounds, Education,

and all of the other committees required to make sure leaders are given

every opportunity to develop and grow in this place. Where do you see

yourself giving of your gifts and talents to the work of Christ in this, His

Church? We need you to step forward and be a strong volunteer.

Focusing on the “Spiritual Needs of the Membership” is per-

haps the most important work I am involved in and which you need to

affirm your own journey of faith. From weekly Chapel for the students

at the school, to Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday Bible studies, to

visitations, and importantly our week-by-week worship, you are to be

assured that attention to “The Apostle’s Teaching” is a priority here.

How are you involved? It is not just an individual effort but a Parish-

wide effort in which we are each to participate. As your Parish Church

looks to its future, it will need spiritual growth and development to take

place. Be one who is prayerfully involved in its revitalization.

It has been a pleasure to share in this experience and I look forward

to all of the great things that will come out of our time together.

Thanks for your prayers and support.

Faithfully, John B.

A Note from the Interim Rector

Dear Parish Family;

It is hard to believe that Debbie and I have been with you for 10

months. I remember thinking I would be glad to help out and do a few

services for a couple of months and now I find myself trying to raise

money and forming committees and working with the school almost daily.

And to think, this is “part-time” work!

As I look back over the goals of Interim Ministry it seems that we

are making some progress. The first goal is to “Reduce the Level of

Anxiety – Fear of the Unknown.” My experience is that there is great hope

for the future and the Search Committee is moving methodically and spir-

itually toward the calling of a new Rector. My part in this is to be a “Non-

Anxious Presence,” in the words of Edwin Freedman in an earlier day.

Church work is a blessing, pure and simple. I have not had many

“unenjoyable” days in the past 30 years because I have always felt God’s

presence in this daily endeavor. Your experience should be the same as

you begin your daily walk with prayer and worship. It is what we are pro-

grammed to be and do by God.

A couple of weeks ago, our Junior Warden held a second meeting

of the Parish and School Grounds Committee. This is a very important

work and places us in a position of thinking about 848 Ashland Terrace as

a campus and not as “them” and “us.” The monumental work done under

the leadership of your Vestry to find the recent water leaks is now com-

pleted and will save the Parish thousands of dollars in the months to

come. There is an assessment taking place to come to grips with all of the

mechanical “stuff” of both facilities that will be a guide for the future.

“Rebuilding the Infrastructure” has truly been a giant work for this time.

On March 19, we had a second meeting of the Finance Commit-

tee made up of Tim Andrews, Charlie Willett, Susan Self, David Andreae,

Chris Brockman, Ruth Wilson, and Bob Brant. It is important that you
