Dear Bill :
This is to inform you of the U .S . Postal Service's decision to consolidate certain mail processingoperations at the St . Petersburg, FL Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) with those of theTampa, FL P&DC .
We advised you on December 15, 2005, of our intent to conduct a feasibility study . After review,we have decided this consolidation is in the best interest of the U .S. Postal Service .
U.S . Postal Service Headquarters officials reviewed and approved the proposal of SoutheastArea managers who cited that mail volume at the St . Petersburg P&DC has declined over thepast few years. Pursuant to your request, a copy of the approved AMP proposal is enclosed .
Because there has been a shift in First-Class Mail volume, the Postal Service is continuallylooking for opportunities to improve productivity and increase efficiency without reducing service .The proximity of the St. Petersburg P&DC to the Tampa P&DC will allow us to accomplish thisgoal by making better use of excess space, staffing, and equipment, and by processing mail moreefficiently .
This consolidation will result in significant savings for the Postal Service . Some affected careeremployees may be reassigned to the Tampa P&DC or to other vacant positions .
