LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, During the Easter season the parish celebrates two of the initiation sacraments, Confirmation and First Communion. This weekend, we will present the First Communion candidates at all the Masses. This presentation takes its cue from the adult Rite of Christian Initiation, at which time the community is made aware of those preparing for the Easter sacraments. In a similar way, we present these children to you who are on the pathway to full Initiation in the Catholic Church. Next Saturday, the 28th of April, is the Dads and Daughters Spring Fling Dance, 7:30pm in Fr. Engels Hall. The dance is for Dads and Daughters of all ages, so ya’ll come. We have a new DJ this year, food and drinks. Make a memorable evening with your dad or daughter. Tickets are on sale this weekend after Masses. Annually the parish looks for an opportunity to say “Thanks” to all who in any way have been involved in ministry in the parish. On May 5th we will do just that, hosting for parish ministers an appreciation dinner. Parish ministers and their families will be welcome to good food and drink as we say thank you for your generosity. We will be in the parish hall and in the parking lot next door. I hear crawfish is on the menu…… I have planted tomatoes and peppers. So far I have blossoms on both. I may start a truck farm…… Have a good week. Love,

VOCATION What could convince someone to turn to God? The story that God became human? The story that Jesus cured the sick? The story that Jesus forgave sin? The story that Jesus rose from the dead? Or, perhaps, the story of the witness of your own life! If you have the continuing inclination that God is calling you to be His priest or religious, call or email Father Matt Lorrain at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL HE IS REAL It is clear in today’s Gospel that the risen Jesus is not a ghost or an illusion. Jesus proves this by inviting the disciples to touch his hands and feet and by eating a piece of fish. Then he gives them a task: to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins “to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem” (Acts 24:49). This is not “Give a few hours of your time, and you’re done,” but a life-long task. They were his chosen followers, but they are now apostles, sent out on a mission. Whenever we celebrate the Eucharist, we are offered the love of God through word and sacrament. We are reminded of God’s saving deeds and wonderful promises, and we are given food for the journey. Finally, we are urged to go forth to love and serve the Lord. What mission is Christ calling you to fulfill, that only you can do? Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications.
