Moment in Time with Missy

What has your Executive Director been up to since COVID-19?

My life since COVID-19 has been FULL OF CHANGE!

My highlights would include: parishioners making calls to all of our

parishioners (if you did not receive a call, please call our parish office 765-463-5733 and leave your new contact information on the voicemail)

Adoration outside Fireside Chat with Fr. Ted was so much fun and

prayerful, I loved chatting with our parishioners. It felt almost normal.

I Love & Miss all of you! Missy

This Week— The Living Gospel:

Our Fate in Our Hands “Our fate in our hands”- it sounds so overwhelming, doesn’t it? It does, but only if we separate it from the Living Gospel. An immeasurable amount of grace won

for each of us by our Lord Jesus Christ. If we only knew how much He loved each of us from that cross, if we only knew how much He loves us from His abiding presence in the Eucharist. In the Eucharist He avails Himself to each and every soul on earth, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. If we only knew… we would start with loving Jesus, in all things and in all ways. O my, there is so much to say, so much I want to say, but only so much I will try and say about my Jesus! Deacon Greg Kandra, in the Living Gospel for Palm Sunday, writes, “our fate is in our hands, is there anything more Catholic than the palms we receive this Sunday? We save them, we display them, and tuck them behind mirrors or holy pictures (crucifixes too). These palms tell part of the story we hear at Mass this Sunday, the Passion. But they also tell our story.” Let’s look-Today is one of those unique days in the Church calendar when we hear two Gospel passages very different in tone and sentiment, and certainly in content. We begin the liturgy with a presentation of an enthusiastic and exuberant crowd as Jesus enters Jerusalem, the capital of David’s kingdom. Along the way He is regaled and hailed as Son of David; the prophet, from Nazareth; and the one who comes in the name of the Lord. He gets the red-carpet treatment: cloaks and cut branches from the trees strewn on the dusty road; cries of Hosanna piercing the air; the crowd swelling, their voices crying out in a mixture of scriptural quotations and messianic aspirations. Then, as the Mass progresses – and somewhat all of a sudden – the mood changes: Our Gospel announces that the King has been degraded to the level of a common criminal. The victory confetti is replaced by whips, spitting, and choking dust. Jesus the prophet and Davidic Savior is now Jesus the criminal, the

blasphemer, the rebel. The donkey that once carried Him in triumph has disappeared, and on His own back He now carries the heavy and awkward cross. Cries of celebration have turned to calls for death; shouts of joy have given way to the sound of the lash; the parade has become an execution march. It is enough to make our spiritual head spin. For in this yearly remembrance of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we are well-reminded of the nature of our own temptations and sins. We can often find ourselves with Jesus for the easy part of the journey, but then vanish like the wind when the pressure rises and the threats of death fill the air. We examine how deep our own loyalty is to Christ in a world where faith is so easily mocked and the name of Christ so easily denigrated. We think about the times when we want to skip ahead to the empty tomb without first walking to Golgotha. As Jesus tells us, the human spirit can be very willing, but the flesh very weak. But there can be no resurrection without the cross; there can be no new life without first dying to oneself. There is no Easter without Good Friday. Let us not be like the crowd: fickle, inconsistent, swaying with the latest wind of popularity and fame, afraid to stand up for justice and truth – afraid to proclaim the innocent one, Lord. But as we journey this Holy Week, let us keep our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus. Let us take note of His patience, His total and unyielding dedication to doing the will of the Father fully and completely. Then let us take up our cross and follow Him, so that having shared in His cross, we might share in His resurrection. Let us pray for the grace to start with loving Jesus, in all things and in all ways. And so my dearly beloved parishioners of Church of the Blessed Sacrament, please know of my deep affection and heartfelt prayers for all of you during these most sacred days and yet difficult times. Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Pray for us!

Kandi

Oh, how I miss each and everyone of you and your smiling faces. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. All are invited to attend our family based faith formation meeting via livestream on Sunday, April 5th @ 9:15 AM. Deacon Mike will be presenting on the Sacraments of Holy Orders and Matrimony with Fr. Ted making guest appearances! Please join us! I am looking into ways for us to stay connected. One way I am hoping to keep us connected, is I will be sending out new prayer partners to each family. Keep an eye out in your mail for your new prayer partner.

Let’s continue to pray for each other, our clergy, bishop and our parish. God bless you all and I am very much looking forward to when we can all be together again.

-Kandi

This weekend we celebrate Palm Sunday here is how to place palm branches in the home!

The branches that are blessed and brought home on Palm Sunday are placed near the cross and Scriptures. After dinner, or at another time on Palm Sunday, the household gathers in prayer. All make the sign of the cross. Leader: Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! Leader: We have come to the last days of Lent. Today, we hear the reading of the Passion. That story will remain with us as we leave Lent behind on Holy Thursday and enter into the Three Days when we celebrate the mystery of Christ passing through suffering and death to life at God's right hand. "We are always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh." The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

After a time of silence, members of the household join in prayers of intercession: Leader: For an evening that is per fect, holy, peaceful, and without sin; let us pray to the Lord. All: Lord, hear our prayer. Leader: For the holy Church of God, that God may give it peace and unity and protect and prosper it throughout the whole world; let us pray to the Lord. All: Lord, hear our prayer. Leader: For our family and fr iends, may we always be kind, just and forgiving; let us pray to the Lord. All: Lord, hear our prayer. (You may also add any personal intentions.) All: Our Father, who are in heaven... Leader: Let us pray: Blessed are you, God of Israel, so r ich in love and mercy. Let these branches ever remind us of Christ's triumph. May we who bear them rejoice in his cross and sing your praise for ever and ever. All: Amen. Leader: May the Lord bless us, in the name of the Father , and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The palm branches may now be placed where they will be displayed during the coming year.

Caleb Hello to all!

I've been working a lot on updating our slides for our Masses, providing music for Masses, and quickly trying adapting and learning to help put on Spanish Masses, as we seek to become more accessible to more people. I've also been working to stay in touch with members of the Music Ministry and Parish during this time.

A special shout out and thank you to Gen Jones (our Accompanist) for all her work playing and organizing, and to Jocelyn Alcala, Stephanie Snyder and Sarah Fassnacht for their work and assistance with the Spanish Masses! Stay tuned on our live stream for the Paschal Triduum where you'll get to hear a few dedicated members of our choirs for Masses! Finally, I just want to say how blessed and grateful I am for so many of you reaching out to me during this time - it's been incredibly good and encouraging to hear your voices! God Bless! -Caleb

Thank you, Gen!

Sarah I am personally taking this time at home to update our Pparishioner database, making sure emails, phone numbers and addresses are updated as well as signing parishioners up for our B2G & Homily Highlight Email Lists. If you would like to update or verify contact info and/or receive our bulletin to go & homily highlights, please email me at [email protected]. Fassnacht Family is collecting N95 masks to donate to healthcare workers. We have collected over 40 masks in the past week and would love to make it 100! If you have any laying around, please let me know and we will come pick them up (social distancing, of course). Additionally, our Young Families connect group has welcomed our newest family member! Irving Walter Casper, son of Bryce & Rebekah Casper was born March 16. Baby and family are doing well. Fun fact: Irving is the 3rd baby to join since our connect group has begun. Alec Mongold & Michael Ching were welcomed in January and December respectively. Our parish family is growing!!

Stephanie– Evangelization & Youth

blessedsacramentwl.org April 2020 • PAGE 7

During this time I have been learning a lot about how to make Alpha and Youth Group available virtually through Zoom video calls. Our first virtual youth group for both middle and high school was this past Sunday, March 29th. The Life Teen youth program is offering a global youth night live through YouTube. It's a four week long series where they are bringing in speakers and musicians to address how the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love are present in our lives during the crisis we're in. We were able to participate in this youth night with 4,000 other people

from around the world! After the global life night we were able to gather in our parish youth group to share how we have and can in the future bring Christ's hope and love to others during this time. This current Alpha session began at the end of January and was supposed to conclude before Easter. After taking a brief break, we are going to continue the few remaining Alpha sessions online with our participants through Zoom. Although we are no longer able to share a meal together in person, we are still able to gather together, watch the Alpha videos, and share our experiences with one another. Our Connect Groups are also continuing to meet through Zoom. If you have gone through Alpha and would like to get connected with a group, please let me know. It is such a blessing to be able to continue connecting with our parish family virtually when we are not able to meet in person. These opportunities have fostered unexpected friendships, have helped make Christ's love undeniably present and have brought hope during this difficult time. I'm so grateful to be a part of it. Middle & high school students - join me for virtual youth group again this Sunday, April 5th from 5-6:30pm! This week's Life Night, Anchored: Professing Faith, will feature a talk from Jackie and Bobby Angel and music by Sarah Kroger. I hope you are all able to join in for the Live Global Life Night, games, discussion, and prayer! You can join youth group this Sunday through Zoom by following the link below. We can have up to 100 people join our Zoom meeting, so let's pack the video chat!

Katie doing something out of our comfort zone for God’s greater good.

I am praying for all of you! Katie

I miss seeing everyone– praying and worshiping with you, catching up and sharing stories. During this time, I am mostly working from home and getting to spend some extra time with my husband, Ryan and son, Trey (which I am really enjoying)! Trey and I recently started e-learning, which is new for all of us parents (and teachers too). I am finding it is a wonderful way to connect and grow closer to one another while learning something new! Keeping up with the Communication I am working to keep our many modes of communication— the website, constant contact emails, social media, livestream —current and updated. I appreciate your patience as we work towards our livestream being fully functional again. Do you follow us on social media? It is a great way to stay connected. Here are our handles: Facebook: @Church of the Blessed Sacrament Twitter: @CBS_WL Instagram: @CBS_WL Should we add TikTok to the mix? Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel too! In addition to our “regular” livestream, we will continue to utilize YouTube for live events. The Day to Day—Parish Finances We recently have submitted our 2019 annual report to the Diocese. I am working to personalize that report to be sent out to all of you! Be on the lookout for that in your mailboxes in the weeks to come. Even though our building is closed, we are still working hard to try to bring Jesus to your homes! As you read through these articles, you can see that our ministries are still striving to keep families engaged in their faith. We also have facilities, technology, business office, and property expenses that require your support. Thank you to those who have: continued to give online, recently signed up to give via Faith Direct, or mailed your envelopes in. We appreciate your generosity and continued support. We cannot do this without YOU! I am aware that some may be financially impacted by this virus and unable to give at this time of uncertainty. Please consider acting in charity toward your neighbors, adding more prayer to your life or

Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need, may

they find consolation in your healing presence. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so

join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen.
