Another successful Season! Tamiami wins the League Championship again for

the 5th year in a row. The unbeaten streak came to an end as the Team played well but

ran into opponents from Punta Gorda - Eagle Point

who had average players performing at a level equal to their top people and at times even better. In the last match of the year Tamiami won by taking 28 of

32 games. Captain Paul Rieck thanked all the Team for another great season of Horseshoes.

The League Banquet was really nice and two special women, Carol House and Linda Rieck, organized

and prepared a great meal for all the players, friends and spouses. During the entire season, these two gals had coffee, water, lemonade, donuts, cookies and cupcakes ready for the guys by 8:30AM for every

home meet.

Bonnie Appleford will be hosting the an-nual Easter Dinner this year. The dinner will be on April 21st, 2PM sharp. Tickets are $5.00 each this year, $6.00 for take-out dinners. Tickets will be sold on April 12th at Friendship Hall from 9-11AM. A

total of 150 tickets will be sold. If you need a take-out PLEASE let us know BEFORE the day of the dinner and purchase a take-out ticket. If you know of anyone who is not able to get out due to health reasons please call Bonnie (239-745-5387) and she will make sure that person gets a meal. MENU: Ham, Au Gratin Potatoes, Coleslaw, Bonni-e’s Beans, Strawberry Shortcake, Coffee and Lemon-ade. Everything will be provided.

TAMIAMI CHOIR DAZZLES RESIDENTS

The vocal talents of the Tamiami Village Choir

were on full display last Sunday at the Spring con-

cert. The Choir performed selections from the musi-

cals “Sound of Music” and “Guys and Dolls.”

Kudos to choir director Judith Barthwell for bring-

ing back the choir! We look forward to next year’s

concert!

2019 Annual Dick Appleford Memorial Strawberry Festival Many of you have asked so here’s a bit of history: The park management years ago held the Strawberry Festival and the office staff and mainte-nance served the shortcake. As most of you already know, Dick and Edgar Ratcliff took over the festival many years ago, after the park was purchased by the residents, Dick and Edgar took over and did a fabu-lous job. After Edgar passed away, Dick and Galen Tower took over and then after Galen moved out of the park and Dick passed away, I did the honor of hosting the event with all of my wonderful volun-teers. I moved North briefly and Sue Swinderman took over for me. I took over again for Sue when I came back to the park. I just felt you all needed to know the history of the Festival, contrary to some rumors that someone else hosted or started this event. This year we sold 454 tickets of which 45 were take outs. This event has been very successful each year with the help of volunteers. I would like to thank those who helped me through the years. I have de-cided to turn this event over to a couple of residents who I feel will do a super job, Doris Crofton and Kathy Losier. SPECIAL LUNCHEON TO THANK STAFF

The Spaghetti Dinner Committee provided a special

luncheon to thank the Tamiami Maintenance and

Office Staff. Marcel Lefebvre organized the meal,

bringing in Jim and Joann Smith, Rick Finley, and

Deb Lefebvre to serve salad, garlic bread, spaghetti

and homemade pies to the staff. We are fortunate to

have such dedicated people among us!

MARCH SPAGHETTI REPORT!

Well, another season is coming to an end, with a

very successful spaghetti dinner on March7th. We

served over 533 participants along with 52 take-

outs. There were plenty of desserts donated by our

park residents, and they were delicious. The

March dinner resulted in a profit of $1855.00.

year, January 16 and March 5,

SOCK HOP Wow! “Oh, what a night!!” A grand entrance of Tamiami’s “Pink Ladies” on their “bikes” kicked off the evening. Heart & Soul did their usual musical magic and kept the dance floor full all night. Other highlights were a dance-off con-test and of course, root beer floats. Thank you to the great decorating team headed up by Kathy Emanu-ele and Cheri Beard. The profit from this year’s Sock Hop will go into the new TVCA Entertainment fund which will help sponsor special events next season. THANK YOU!! Helen Mwarey WIM A big, big thank you to all of the donors for the gifts for Wisconsin-Illinois-Michigan Day. A special thank you to Sharon Gruff for her donated basket. She is from PA and donated to WI-IL-MI. We had a great time! Thanks for all the wonderful dona-tions as well. Over 40 people went home with a do-nated basket or some type of gift. This event was a big success due to the dedication, planning, and or-ganization put in ahead of the event….. and espe-cially the superb cooking! The WIM Team! New Board Member says “Thanks” I would like to thank all the residents who supported me

in the past election. I was overwhelmed with the support

I received and I truly know I will be an asset to all in the

Tamiami Village Community which we all know includes

the RV section. For those who didn’t know me enough at

the recent elections, I am confident I can prove myself in

the next two years with hard work and dedication to

hopefully gain your consideration for support in the

future.

I would also like to thank the past and current board

members for their hard work and dedication to continu-

ously help and improve Tamiami Village which is a fabu-

lous place to live. I look forward to working with the resi-

dents, board members and all the staff to do my part in

improving our community.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any

concerns you have that I can help with. If I don’t have the

answer I will definitely find out with the help of the board

TVCA NEWS

An important meeting will be held on April 1, 2019

at Friendship Hall, 7PM. This is a special meeting

to provide information regarding the changes in hall

requests for next season, cover the new forms, and allow residents to ask questions about the current status

of Bingo, activities that may have been cancelled, and raffles, etc. Please plan to join us and learn first hand

what is going on with this current issue.

The Easter Golf Cart Parade will take place on Sunday, April 7th. Golf carts may line up near the dog park

at 11:30, the Parade starts at Noon. The golf cart parade will end at Friendship Hall for the annual Easter hot

dog lunch, (approximately 1PM), headed by Judy Hanson and Doris Canfield. Many thanks to Judy and her

team of volunteers for another successful event for Village residents. Kathy Emanuele has organized prizes

for the best Easter Bonnet and the best decorated golf cart. All participants will have a vote. Thank you to

everyone who has stepped forward to make this event happen. As we continually say, it’s the volunteers

who keep the activities and fun going all season long. It couldn’t happen without volunteer time and effort.

The annual Easter Dinner is planned for April 21, 2PM sharp at Friendship Hall. Tickets will be sold on

April 12th at Friendship Hall, 9-11AM. Ticket are $5, or $6 for a take-out. Bonnie Appleford is hosting the

BINGO Hot Dog Fund for 2018/19 Season The hot dog fund has been very successful again this season. Although Bingo was abruptly halted due to some legal issues we still had a good season. All the money we make goes back into the park for whatever is needed. This year we have donated back to park needs-$2,898.82. SHUFFLEBOARD TRAVEL TEAM

This was a better year for our shuffleboard

team with a 5th place finish and almost

getting fourth.

Next year could be better with several players really

improving. Namely Bob Gillespie, Jay Kopplin,

Roger Quenneville and Brad Horning. Captain Tom

Mason also has a number of good players like Virgil

Machado, Al Wolf, Donna & Big John Brewer and

Elaine Longjohn. Tom will need help to get the

Team ready for next year as Ed O’Neal and Joyce

Radcliff (both pros) just moved to Maine. Another

good player, Roxann Redington, may not be availa-

ble and Julie Wheeler decided to drop out next year.

So young and old, please consider practicing shuf-

fleboard and joining a team that needs help and is

pleasant and helpful to new players.

CHANGES COMING FOR HALL USAGE

All activities, both one-time events and season long

activities, must fill out a new hall usage form for the

upcoming season. Forms are available in the office.

For some groups, a new cleaning deposit will also

be required. Requests will be reviewed by a TVCA

Committee and will not be placed on the calendar

until the form is completed and approved. Every

effort will be made to maintain the same schedule,

but please do not assume you will have the same

place and time. All changes will be covered at the

April 1st TVCA meeting, 7PM at Friendship Hall.

DART BASEBALL SEASON ENDS

Hot Shots 2019 Champs

Thanks to all who participated in this season of Dart Baseball. This was an exciting season with the teams in much closer standings than any other year. But the Hot Shots prevailed again. Congratulations to Carol Wheeler’s team for winning four years in a row.

Our hottest shooter for the year was Helmut Fiebich who plays on the Intimidator’s team, scoring 156 points. He is one of our Senior shooters and he had perfect attendance. He has bragging rights at the pool for the summer!

We look forward to next season when the fun begins on the 1st Thursday in November. Have a great summer and enjoy some real baseball. Marge Wolf

Tamiami Village Veteran News ANNUAL HARRY CHAPIN FOOD DRIVE The Tamiami Veterans held their annual Harry Chapin Food

Drive on March 30th. A report on the total amount of food collected this year will be in a future newsletter.

For the 7th year, the Pirates and the Spaghetti Dinner Committee presented the Tamiami Veterans with a

check toward the food drive. The $500 donated this year was raised through Pirate gatherings and Spaghetti

Dinners. Every dollar donated to Harry Chapin Food Bank can purchase $8.00 of canned goods for those in

need. Thanks to the many great people in the Park who donated canned and dry goods, and also to those who

brought in checks towards the food drive. A special “Thank You” to Earl Dugal and the Pirates.

NEW COMMITTEE FORMED The Tamiami Veterans have formed a Leadership Committee to carry on

the duties necessary for a vital and active Veterans group. Tom Seeger, Paul Rieck and Jerry Bohlmann are

the men to contact with comments, concerns and questions, and most important, to volunteer to assist with the

Veteran activities that happen throughout the year.

US & CANADIAN FLAGS Tom Seeger is the new Flag Coordinator for the American and Canadian flags.

CARE & SHARE CORNER There was a great attendance at the “Over 80’s”

lunch held on March 12. A huge thank you to the

subcommittee who stepped up to the plate to honor

residents with the special lunch and entertainment.

The Tamiami Village Craft Show was a huge suc-

cess. There were 29 vendors selling their hand-

made items. Thank you to Carol and Chuck Coons

and kitchen crew for preparing the lunch at the sale.

Also, thank you to Ali Padley and Judy Gilson and

the Bake Sale crew for hosting the bake sale.

Thank you for your donations of baked goods, too.

Our season is winding down, but we will be think-

2019 Deployed Military Packages At the present time we are accepting only monetary

donations for the 2019 Deployed Military Christ-

mas Packages. Many residents do not arrive until

after the packages are sent out (Nov. 18th.). You

can participate by donating monetarily to Bona

Wirth- 3082 Skyvilla Lane before you head north.

Over the summer is a good time to collect items

needed for the Christmas boxes. Here is a list of

items that will be collected in the fall:

From the Manager’s Desk GOING NORTH: For those of you who may leave to go north to stay with your northern family for the Spring and Summer, please stay safe. Let us know your estimated date of de-parture so as to insure any and all mailings reach you in a timely man-ner. Please also provide us with the name of the person handling your lawn care and let them know that you want them to do the weeding as well. Please make sure to put away all of your loose items around your home before you leave as they can become projectiles during heavy winds that are a frequent occurrence during the summer months. Leave your yard light on to help with safety over the summer. For those of you who have awnings, please lower them and fasten them into place before you head north. If you have someone keeping an eye on your home while you are away, please make sure the office has their name and contact information. BANK ACCOUNT: Over the next few weeks some of you will be preparing to leave for your homes up north, if you are currently part of the Association’s ACH Program and changes to your bank account occur, please notify the office as soon as possible. TRASH/REFUSE: If you are leaving prior to our regular collection day, please notify the office so we can make the necessary arrange-ments to pick up your refuse. Please do not leave it at the curbside for an extended period of time. Remember you can check out the newsletter on our website www.tamiamicommunity.com while you are gone. 5th ANNUAL SHUFFLEBOARD EVENT FOR RV-TV TEAMS

This is always a fun time as both Teams en-joy each other and bring food for after the match get together at Friendship Hall. The RV Team

is really getting tough and won their share of games on the RV Courts but found the Travel Team Courts a challenge as they were not familiar with the drifts.

Captain Terry Camp had his RV Team ready for a big upset with so many good Travel Team Players gone. However, Captain Tom Mason was ready for

the challenge and both Teams went away happy. The team is already looking forward to next year.

INFORMATION UPDATE: We are still experi-encing problems with residents not updating their addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. If you have changed your phone number, northern address, emergency contact information, please contact the office with the updated information so that we can update your file. If you would like to be part of the Association’s emergency infor-mation updates, please check with the office to make sure you have submitted all of the correct information needed. NORTH & SOUTH ENTRANCES: Due to the heavy traffic still occurring, please use extra cau-tion when entering and or leaving the Village. Use additional caution when entering the North Entrance due to the Flea Market currently in op-eration three days a week and the additional peo-ple that are in and out of the Office entrance. With the Barber Shop in its new location, the South Entrance has also become a very busy ar-ea. Please use caution as you enter or leave the Village. FLAMINGO DITCH AREA: The Association will be having the engineer inspecting the entire ditch area surrounding Phase III including the black drainage pipe. A report outlining the engi-neer’s findings and recommendations will be submitted to the Master Board of Directors for review and possible implementation of necessary work being required.

Helping Hand Fund

Please don’t forget about Helping

Hand Fund! This program provides financial assis-

tance during difficult times and allows neighbors to

help neighbors. To be eligible, you must be a resi-

dent and/or spouse of a resident of the Park. It costs

only $10.00 to join and have an account opened for

you. There is a 30-day waiting period where no ben-

efits are paid, and it costs an average of $20.00 a

year. To obtain more information contact Carol

Wheeler at 239-652-0556. We need new members

so please think about joining this worthwhile cause.
