A person operating under this special Limited Herbicide Applicator certification is not authorized to advertise the application of herbicides or any other pesticide application nor supervise the application of any pesticide by an uncertified person. To prepare for the Limited Herbicide Applicator exam, one must study the ‘Core’ Applying Pesticides Safely plus be able to read a pesticide label. You must send in proof of insurance along with your certification application first to John Ewell. He can be reached at 615-837-5340 or fax 615- 837-5012. You do not have to be licensed and chartered to apply plain fertilizer, but you would need to be if you apply fertilizer impregnated with a herbicide or other pesticide (‘weed & feed’) due to the pesticide in the product. The license exam dates are Apr 9th-10th, Jul 16th-17th and Oct. 8th– 9th 2019. The Board always meet on the Monday before the license exams. In Tennessee you must be licensed and chartered before you can apply pesticides for a fee - even if you use non-restricted pesticides that you can buy at your local Wal-Mart. New Testing Locations

PSI Services based out of Glendale, CA will begin administering the certification exams on March 15, 2019.You may start scheduling exams for certification beginning March 4, 2019. The application is included with the newsletter.

The company has been doing business in TN since 2004 with other state agencies.

Individuals wanting to take the certification exams will be able to schedule their own test and pay online through PSI. You will receive your results immediately. Testing will be administered

in several of the locations from Monday – Saturday. This information will be provided when you schedule your test.

**Expiring certifications it’s just around the corner**

All certifications will expire June 30, 2020 if you have not accrued any CEU’s prior to July 1, 2019. You cannot earn all CEU’s in one year or at one training, Only individuals who become certified on or after July 1st and before June 30, 2020 can earn all CEU’s in one year, but must attend at least 2 trainings.

You must re-test if you do not accrue your CEU’s to maintain your certification.

*Potential points-contingent upon actual sessions attended. No more than 75% of one’s total point requirement can be

from only one school.

A reminder for anyone submitting rosters: Please make sure to use the most current roster form available under

‘Downloadable Forms’ on the TDA website www.tn.gov/agriculture . Do NOT use entire social security numbers when sub-

mitting rosters; the TN ID number is preferred but the last 4 digits of the social security number will be accepted for now,

but to ensure privacy do NOT send the entire social security number on rosters. Please print legibly to ensure the correct

person will be credited with the points earned.

Pest Control Professionals: “Under the direct supervision” means any application or sale of a pesticide by a certified appli-

cator acting under the instructions and control of a private applicator, commercial applicator or commercial pest control

operator who is available if and when needed, if the applicator or operator is physically present or in the direct communi-

cation by conventional means of communication.

**Certification Information: Beginning January 2018, all rosters, including in-house training, must be submitted within

30 days of approved training date. Rosters received after the 30 day period from date of training will no longer be ac-

cepted. All training, including In-House training, should be submitted 45 days prior to the date of training.

@School attendance registration is now online!

If your school has been submitted in time for a confirmation letter to be sent to you before your school is held, then

you will see at the bottom of the confirmation letter an option to register your school’s attendees on the day of the meet-

ing, via the internet, and will be able to automatically generate the paper form (one copy must be sent to TDA while a sec-

ond copy is for your records). This option does not apply to schools approved for multiple dates at various locations.

All you need is an internet-connected computer and a printer at your school’s registration desk. Your secure login and

password are included in the confirmation letter. PLEASE NOTE: If you are not using @School, you are still required to sub-

mit the necessary hand-written roster, just like always. Also, if the roster is NOT entered on the actual date of the meet-

ing or if technical problems occur, you must submit your written roster as usual by mail or by fax 615-837-5012. @School

points will be credited within 24 hours online.

Due to recent fee changes implemented you will no longer be paying the $5.00 fee for a new or replacement certification card. From the TDA website, tn.gov/agriculture, you will need to download the Application for Duplicate or Replacement Card. You may fax that form to 615-837-5012, ATTN: Certification Section.

Certification cards are NOT automatically mailed out from TDA. You must request them once you know you have rolled over to 6/30/2020 – there is no fee. Please use the Application for Duplicate or Replacement Cards that is located under ‘Pesticide Forms’ on the TDA website www.tn.gov/agriculture

Certification is no longer on a calendar year. Make sure to earn at least 1 ceu by 6/30/2019 be-cause you must earn ceu’s in more than one certification year in order to roll over to the next 3-year cycle.

You must hold a valid Private Applicator certification or a valid Commercial Applicator certification as well as have attended an approved Dicamba training to legally apply one of the three Dicamba products.

Only having Dicamba training does NOT qualify you to apply Dicamba in Tennessee.

Check with your county Extension office for Private Applicator and Dicamba training.
