April Book Club Selection – The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra PatrickBook Club Meets Tuesday, April 17; 12:30 p.m.

Also, thank you to our anonymous donors.

We appreciate your continued support of Windy Hill.

Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life.

He gets out of bed at precisely 7:30 a.m., just as he

did when his wife, Miriam, was alive. He dresses in

the same gray slacks and mustard sweater vest, waters

his fern, Frederica, and heads out to his garden.

But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam's death,

something changes. Sorting through Miriam's possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he's never seen before. What follows is a surprising and unforgettable odyssey that takes Arthur from London to Paris and as far as India in a quest to find out the truth about his wife's secret life before they met--a journey that leads him to find hope, healing and self-discovery in the most unexpected places.

DONATIONS MADE IN MEMORY

OF STERLING SAUBLE

Beautiful Spring Days are right around the corner; consider spending some of those warm days helping out with Meal on Wheels. Nancy is always looking for back- up drivers but now specifically needs delivery riders. It is always preferable to send two volunteers to deliver the meals as some days several days of meals are delivered at one time. If you are able to help, please see Nancy Walton for more information.

Have you wondered why folks are heading across the main lobby and into the room on the far right corner? Wonder no longer… It's the new and improved Billiards Room. Thanks to donations made by The Oddfellows Lodge and the Republican Club of Hanover, the pool players now have a room to call their own. Fresh paint and new carpet make the room inviting… Just no food or drinks Please! Go check it out! The official ribbon cutting was in March and the room is now open from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm.

You will notice in this month's menu that there are quite a few new, healthier menu items including salads, soups and fresh fruits and vegetables. The Nutrition Group has committed to be responsive to recommendations and suggestions expressed by senior center members regarding menu items. In the future, we will be addressing adding an alternate meal choice and offering special dietary meals. Please keep in mind that the funding Windy Hill receives from the York County Area Agency on Aging is directly tied into the meal program. No funding is received for members who do not eat lunch at the center. Please make a commitment to eat a few days during the month, and try one of the new menu items! These elements of art are line, shape, color, value, form, texture and space. Each class will include related exercises to actively understand the specific art topic followed by the opportunity to complete your own work of art. The first class will center on value and how an artist uses it to create beauty. The second one will be on shape. The third will be on the topic of line. And the fourth will be on color. Please join in the fun! Materials will be provided. The classes will be held on Thursdays; May 10 & 24 and June 7 & 21 from 12:30 – 2:30 pm in the lunchroom. $10 per class, sign up in the Reception area.

Classes will be taught by certified Health Ambassadors and APPRISE Counselors from the York County Area Agency on Aging. Developed by the Center for Aging and Population Health at the University of Pittsburgh, along with the CDC Prevention Research Center, this health promotion program provides many no-cost and low-cost preventative services to promote successful aging. Each of the “10 Keys” is an important step in preventing disease and improving quality of life. They include lowering blood pressure, stopping smoking, participating in cancer screenings, getting immunizations, regulating blood glucose, lowering cholesterol, being physically active, maintaining healthy bones, joints and muscles, socialization and combating depression. A resource manual will be provided. The free workshops will be held on Fridays for five weeks beginning on April 6 through May 4 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.

A hot/healthy meal for just a donation … it's the best deal in town!
