The first semester of 2017 witnessed the continuation of the rich and longstanding partnership between NUST and the B360 Education Partnerships. Twelve industry experts lectured at NUST. Dr Corrinne Gantenbein, Belinda Holdsworth, Joe Wildfire, Remo Vetter and Matthias Krucker paid first- time visits with Wildfire, Krucker and Vetter also on maiden trips to Namibia. Dr Gantenbein, Head of the Centre of Food and Nutrition Research at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences was based atthe Department of Environmental Health Sciences. Ms Holdsworth and Mr Wildfire were attached to the Departments of Marketing and Logistics and Environmental Health Sciences respectively. Mr Krucker NUST has welcomed five new B360 Experts during the first semester of 2017 as the partnership between NUST and B360 Education Partnership continues to grow. During their visits, Ms Holdsworth and Mr Wildfire did not only lecture students, but also facilitated a Breakfast Session organised by the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business (HP-GSB). The session focused on Change Management. Mr Vetter and Mr Krucker expanded their lecturing duties at NUST to student supervision of individual projects. Apart from the five new visitors to other Swiss-based experts returned to NUST during the first semester as guest lecturers visiting under the B360 Education The Department is hosting 14 exchange students from Austria, Finland and Germany. The students were welcomed at a reception held at the Hotel School. During the first semester the students are enrolled in programme across five faculties. Two exchange students, Lea Wienke and Topi Penttilä, made a presentation on their expectations of Namibia and the reality they have discovered while in Namibia. The Student Representative Council (SRC) Secretary General Shoopala Shoopala made a presentation on the SRC and their different roles, sport codes and the different student societies. Elifas Andreas, President of the NUST Students Against Crime, presented on safety on campus and in Namibia generally. The Faculty of Engineering, through its partnership with RheinMain University in Wiesbaden, Germany, hosted two staff members in March. Prof Birgit Scheppat and Prof Hans-Dieter Bauer have visited to discuss the possibility of collaborating in the field of renewable energy research, more specifically, hydrogen and fuel cell technology. They visited the NUST Energy Efficient House (EEH) and had promising discussions with the Namibia Energy Institute, the curators of the EEH. They also met with the director of the Innovation Design Lab heading the solar car project at NUST. The first semester of 2017 also saw the introduction of the Career Starter Week, an initiative piloted by B360 Education Partnerships a with the Cooperative Education Unit (CEU) and the Department of Human Resources. This week long workshop was aimed at equipping NUST students with the skills and knowledge to enhance their employability. The Career Starter Week, amoung other topics, focused on interview skills as well as CV and motivation letter writing.
