It has been an excellent and exciting spring term at Cambridge School. We have been encouraging all of our students to improve their literacy skills and there has been a major focus on phonics at key stage 3. The reading skills of the students are progressing rapidly and their confidence is growing in leaps and bounds. As part of this project, we celebrated world book day and students enjoyed dressing up as characters from their favourite books, We will be extending this next year to include presentations on favourite books by adults and children at assemblies so watch this space and start planning your costumes now! Two other major events were celebrated this term, International Women's Day and Science Week. Ms Deere and Ms Baron Williams presented a really inspirational assembly on the rights of women across the globe and really empowered the children to think about equality. Science Week was really exciting for our students and all classes engage in experiments that ‘blew their minds.’
The school is committed to partnership working and we have formed close links with Clarendon school in Richmond. We are collaborating on curriculum and assessment and also quality controlling each other's work. Both myself and John Kipps Head teacher of Clarendon school, have conducted joint lesson observations at both schools to make sure that we deliver the highest standard. This is all part of a strategy to make Cambridge School an outstanding school for your child. Have a wonderful break and I look forward to seeing you all rejuvenated in the summer term
Science Week
Cambridge students took part in a Science Fair during science week (10th-19th March).
Einstein class made ice! Well done Einstein
Shakespeare class also showed real detail and dedication in their work.
Rowling Class
As part of Science Week, Rowling class made kaleidoscopes. We used tinfoil as a reflective surface and painted tracing paper different colours to catch reflections of light as we turned the tubes around. Then we decorated the outsides and personalised them
Healthy Schools
It has been another great term for sport here at
Cambridge. We have had more swimming,
trampolining, fitness, basketball, yoga and hockey.
All students have been taking part and we have seen
some real progression across the school.
Well done to Miracle, John, Barbod, Mehnaz
and Riyad for representing the school and the
Borough at the Boccia tournament. We came
2nd, just missing out on place at the London
youth games.!!!

QPR Community Day 2017
QPR held a community day on Saturday 18th March, were they had schools and
companies in the Hammersmith and Fulham come to the football match.
Becky Dent and Tracey Bryon went for Cambridge School and Mencap.
QPR were playing against Rotherham. At half time, the ladies and other
community were show on to the pitch and made their way to the half line,
they were directed to the centre circle, where they had a banner waiting
for a photo.
Becky really enjoyed the game, (as she’s a QPR supporter), and QPR won
5-1.
We are pleased to announce that we have achieved our Silver award in healthy schools. Well done Cambridge!!

Art Therapy
Ellis (Year 7) from Columbus class has been attending Art Therapy since September 2016 and has made some amazing progress both artistically and emotionally. Brightening up the school with his laughter and smile, he has shown great independence attending all Art Therapy sessions with a positive outlook and willingness. As of recently creating an amazing pokeman puzzle, using his
imagination and detailed planning. Amazing progress and achievement Ellis!!
Bailey (Year 11) has shown great creativity and passion in Art Therapy. Using the space and materials as means to communicate his bond with pet dog ‘Rocket’, he is proud of his progress and so is Cambridge School!
Sadly Dane (Year 11) has left

BTEC—Child Care
Some of our year 10 /11’s have been doing child care as part of their BTEC qualifications. One
of their task was to play the role of an adult in the home with a child. Looking at the photo’s
think they enjoyed themselves.
International Women’s day The school celebrated International Women's Day on 8 March with a special assembly looking at the different experiences of women around the world. We learned that despite progress in many areas, women still earn less than men and don't always have the same rights and opportunities. We also looked at the achievements of many women throughout history - with staff and children giving presentations on the women they felt most inspired by. We enjoyed some fantastic speeches from the students: Jaffar spoke about Anne Frank and hope, Miracle chose Michelle Obama as the first African American First Lady, and Morgan and Annas talked about what Rosa Parks' brave example meant to them about standing up to injustice.
A big THANK YOU to parent, students, staff and bus escorts, for your donations, we raised
£46.00 for epilepsy action.

World Book Day
Congratulations to Harry and Shane who have now
completed their level 1 City and Guilds in bike
maintenance . Ozzy has 2 more assessments to complete and then will also have passed. Well done boys, the LSU team are very proud of you.
Billie has been doing really well at her part time placement within a nursery and they are extremely pleased with her
contribution and Jessy has been working very hard at her English and is working towards her GCSE’s. Jessy will also be starting a work placement after Easter.
Cambridge School celebrated World Book day 2017 with a special assembly and the
opportunity for all students – and staff- to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.
Amongst the characters were a selection of superheroes and sports celebrities – many
students being keen on comics and auto-biographies. JK Rowling’s Harry potter books remain a popular choice and we also had appearances from Oliver, Mary Poppins, Hana Montana and Jacob from the Twilight trilogy!
The children looked and listened to their favourite stories in class and had the opportunity to write book reviews and draw their favourite characters.
We are really looking forward to World Book day next year and dressing up again!
Cambridge school visited the House of
Parliament on the 25th of February. Our
visit started at the Educational Centre in
the 360⁰ sensory interactive room where
we had 15minutes virtual tour through
parliament and democracy’s history and
a virtual
recreation of the House of Commons
and the House of Lords Chambers.
We had the opportunity to enter the hall
where King Henry VIII used to play tennis
and ride his horse. In this hall, we stood
on the stairs where important people
such as Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela
and Queen Elizabeth stood to give
speeches.
The highlight of the trip was watching
the Speaker of the House John Bercow
preside over the debate on preventing
domestic violence.
Cambridge get political
We have had an amazing response from Parents, Governors and private sponsors to fund our
sensory garden and forest area. We have also secured funding from the Clothworkers Foundation
and so are able to go ahead and start creating the space!!
The grand opening of the garden will be on Wednesday 19th April 2017 at 10am.
The “John Rowlands “ garden is dedicated to a very loved teacher who worked at the school
previously and who unfortunately died of cancer.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed!
