Tasha will autograph her book “My Last Step Backward” at the event.

About Tasha Schuh After showcasing her talent as the lead in her high school’s production of “Grease”, Tasha began to dream of a career in theater. No one knew that the stage itself would steal her dream—and almost her life—during a rehearsal for the next big show.

Just days before her opening performance in The Wizard of Oz, sixteen year-old Tasha took one step backward and fell sixteen feet through a trap door. On that day, November 11, 1997, she landed on the concrete floor of the historic Sheldon Theater, breaking her neck, crushing her spinal cord and fracturing her skull. She would never walk again.

For the next three days, Tasha prepared for a surgery that would, at best, leave her a C-5 quadriple-gic. Post-op complications turned Tasha’s struggle and ultimate triumph into an unbelievable jour-ney. From loss and grief to self-discovery and achievement, Tasha’s faith, resilience and honesty have allowed her to leave the old Tasha behind while she confronts the new Tasha’s life from a state of the art wheelchair.

Survivor, believer, and fighter, Tasha is an inspiration and hope for all who face life’s greatest challenges. She was the recipient of the 2012 National Rehabilitation Champion Award and was Ms. Wheelchair USA 2012-13. Tasha travels and shares her story of resilience and triumph over tragedy. Community Program offered “Managing Your Fears and Caring for Children in a Dangerous World”

In a dangerous world of mass violence, natural and man-made disasters, pandemics, and terrorism. We have a choice -- we can live in denial and be frozen by fear or face our fears and take action. Parents often ask, “What should we do to help our children cope with this disaster?” Research has demonstrated that children do better if their parents or other caretakers are doing well.

Marshfield Clinic invites parents, families and community members to learn more about this topic at a free “Managing Your Fears and Caring for Children in a Dangerous World” community program presented by Dr. Joseph Napoli, Co-Director of Resiliency LLC, from 6:30-8:00 pm on Thursday, April 23, 2015, in the Robert F. Froehlke Auditorium, Melvin R. Laird Center for Medical Research, Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield.

RSVP by calling 715-387-9081. Direct questions to Patti Bell, Marshfield Clinic Marketing & Communications, at 715-387-5199 or [email protected].

Willaim is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his 34th birthday party. However, Rick’s awkward manner and inappropriate be-havior throw the occasion into shambles. It turns out that Rick is a stupid nerd who overstays his welcome with a vengeance.

Students Realize the Value of Education at Reality Stores The Reality Store is a fun simulation that helps 8th graders connect academic achievement with the kind of lifestyle they envision for themselves after graduation. Students are assigned an occupation with annual income, benefits, a marital status, combined income, and children. They then proceed from table to table (staffed by our volunteers) to buy housing, transportation, groceries, insurance, furniture, clothing, electronics, vacations, utilities, child care, pets, and other real life elements.

Each school year, MACCI coordinates two Reality Stores – one at Spencer Middle/High School, which was held on March 10, and another at Marshfield Middle School which is sched-uled for April 14. This year, the Marshfield Reality Store will be reaching more than 600 area students. In follow-up surveys, students consistently report having a greater appreciation of the importance of grades and education, as well as the many challenges, complexities, and opportunities they will face as adults. MACCI is currently recruiting volunteers to staff the booths for the stores.

Please contact Karen Isaacson at (715) 384-3454 or email [email protected] if you are able to volunteer time for this enjoyable educational event.

Summer courses help college students save time, money Registration is open for summer classes at the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County. Summer courses are condensed so students can quickly earn college credits that are designed to transfer easily to UW System four-year campuses.

Summer courses include ART 161 Intro to Photography, BIO 190 Intro to Environmental Science, BIO 251 General Survey of Microbiology, BIO 286 Anatomy and Physiology, MUS 278 History of Rock and Roll: Ethnic Studies, SOC 101 Intro to Sociology, and WOM 203 Women in Popular Culture.

Summer is an excellent time for new and current students to pick up extra classes, allowing them to graduate earlier or reduce their course load in the fall. For college students who were attending a campus elsewhere and living at home for the summer, picking up college credits at UW-M/WC makes good economic sense and helps them stay on track.

For course descriptions and class times, visit http://marshfield.uwc.edu/summer.

For more information about admissions, advising and reg-istration for summer session courses, call Student Affairs at 715-389-6530.

New Twist on Marshfield Art Fair New Visions Gallery is currently planning for the 52nd Annual Marshfield Art Fair. Marshfield Art Fair is a long standing community tradition that has seen its fair share of changes throughout the year, including date, location and activities. Even the best traditions must refresh themselves every so often!

For 2015, Marshfield Art Fair will remain as it has been on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 10, 2015) at Marshfield High School, but will also be the culminating event of the first ever Creative Marshfield Weekend! What is the Creative Marshfield Weekend? The Creative Marshfield Weekend is the first of what will hopefully be an annual event celebrating and recognizing the art of creativity in our great community! We have been inspired by the work that all of you have been doing and we hope to bring everyone together for an event that is all about imagination, inspiration and originality.

New Visions, along with Marshfield Art Fair is planning a Plein Air Paint-Off (plein air refers to painting outdoors and on-site rather than from sketches or photographs). Artists will be stationed around town, painting beautiful and important sites in the community (historic buildings, parks, trails, etc.). Artists participating in the Plein Air Paint-Off will receive space at Marshfield Art Fair to sell their paintings. Additionally, New Vi-sions, in partnership with Main Street Marshfield; will have Random Acts of Art on display as a part of the Marshfield Flash Galleries program. Two pianos have been painted by local artists and will be placed along Central Avenue for anyone to play. New Visions will work with local pianists and piano teachers to schedule performances throughout the weekend.

What are we asking of you? If you have something planned (a concert, a poetry reading, book signing, theatrical performance, art exhibition, art class, dance performance, flash mob, children’s art activities – anything that in-volves creativity) or might be interested in planning an activity, please contact me ([email protected] or 715-389-4764) to let me know before APRIL 6. We would like to publicize ALL creative events taking place on May 8 & 9. This is your chance to act on that great idea you’ve had for a while! A printed brochure will be created for visitors as a one-stop shop for activities taking place. This will be publicized state-wide in the hope of not only bringing in community members, but visitors from out of the area.

Tired of Ordinary? Ready for Exceptional?Your Marshfi eld Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry presents TWO valuable programs in ONE day!

Both programs will be offered at MACCI, 700 South Central Avenue, Marshfi eld.

Leaders In uence Determination (LID)Thursday, April 30, 2015

8:00 am - 12:00 pm

At this session, attendees will learn to expand their infl uence with colleagues, teammates, supervisors, and family. Increased infl uence will raise Value in yourself, and others will view you in a new, more vibrant and positive light. Your leadership capabilities will extend from ordinary to exceptional. Leaders with true Infl uence have the Determination to reach levels of success they never knew existed. Plan to attend and fi nd your way to increased infl uence.

Nate Mueller, owner of Mueller Publishing, has worked with our presenter and tells us “not only did our knowledge of leadership increase but we became more conscious of the way we lead - both good and bad. This increased consciousness has helped develop a whole new game plan in working with associates and clients.”

Change Your GripThursday, April 30, 2015

1:00-4:30 pm

The afternoon program presents the Socratic Sales Method (SSM), a unique method of selling. Whether you are a salesperson, manager, or owner, the bottom line is income. SSM dramatically increases income - for everyone! SSM has unique features that are not seen in any other sales training - ANYWHERE! SSM has developed the skill to have the client’s answer their own objections, ask the right questions at the right time, and to use the most powerful tool, for salespeople, SSM’s Three Magic Questions.

Jennifer Raikowski, Mueller Publishing, says “we were impressed with how well Matt understand the market. He was able to show us an effective way of selling that WORKED! Times have changed and Matt is ahead of the game with sales training.”

Our presenter, Matt Wells, has been noted as one of the most motivational and exciting speakers in the country. He has taught hundreds of people and has watched them grow and prosper in their careers. Matt’s training works with any industry and is fl exible for any market.
