Dear Friends in Christ,

The resurrection of our Lord, Easter Day, is known as the Queen Festival of the Church

Year. There is no other Christian festival celebration more important than this day!

Sometimes the day becomes lost in all the preparation and anticipation, especially after a

long hard winter, we are ready for Spring and new life! For a brief moment let me en-

courage you to again focus on the significance of this day, not only in the life of our Lord

and His disciples, but in the very core of whom we are as Godʹs children in this year of

our Lord 2015.

Read again the powerful words of Paul as wri/en in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 15: ʺNow I

would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you

stand, and by which you are saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you - unless you be-

lieved in vain. For I delivered as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our

sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in

accordance with the Scriptures and that he appeared to Cephas, then the twelve. Then he appeared

to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have

fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all , as one untimely born,

he appeared to me... Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say

there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even

Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your

faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he

raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are

not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile

and ʹyou are still in your sins.ʹ Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If

in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ

has been raised form the dead...The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But

thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christʺ (ESV)

This is Easter - this is the Day of resurrection - it has and will into eternity affect our

lives. So come join the celebration - yes, this Easter but every Sunday which is the

churchʹs weekly celebration of Easter - the resurrection of our Lord. In our baptism, we

were not only connected into his death but also his resurrection - may this message of

life affect all we do and say!

Easter Blessings!

Pr. Les

The Lutheran Church of Our Savior Council Minutes, March 12, 2015 (For Approval April 9, 2015)

BOARD OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE Fellowship: The format for serving fellowship changed in January as follows: Bagels, milk, juice

and eggs will be provided by Congregational Life, one member of the Congregational Life team will lead the activities in the kitchen with one additional volunteer working in the kitchen, and another volunteer will bring in food. Each person assigned for a given week will provide one or 2 items to be served.

Equipment: The toaster has been returned. A less complex model will be purchased once the funds have been returned to the church. Future items to be purchased are a shelf for the coffee pots, a commercial slicer and commercial mixer.

Todd indicated that there are 5 people interested in taking the Serve Save one-day kitchen training course at Del. Tech. in Georgetown. He mentioned that this might also be of interest to students in the ESL program.

BOARD OF EDUCATION PRESENT: Gwen Kunkle, Marge Kunkle, Jim McDonald, Geri Ann Jacobson - Haga, Vicki Miller, Renee Bennett, Sheila Galbraith. Matt Miller joined after the start of the meeting. Original meeting date of February was canceled due to the snow and ice. Jim McDonald started with a prayer Board of Ed will write up a letter to be given to Board of Worship to inquire if we can have the older students serve on the 3rd Sunday instead of the 2nd Sunday of each month. This way the students can take communion as well. This would continue during the summer months as well. Sister Deb- asked that we discuss Vacation Bible School. She will not be available during the week that we normally host VBS because she will be out of town at her annual deaconess conference. She is willing to assist someone to take over the director position, but can not commit the time required to be the director this year. She also pointed out that she served with Marcia’s help in the director job for 11 years and although we have many volunteers who enjoy serving in this ministry, the Board of Ed really needed to have an honest discussion of time, people, and resources that are needed to pro-duce the high quality programs we have done for the past 12 years, in light of declining VBS attend-ance and the lack of a music and opening/closing program leader (and director!) After much thought and discussions with Matt and Vikki Miller, along with Marge Kunkle, it was decided that we would have VBS this year and try something new in the hopes of bringing children to the church and maybe have their parents follow! We are excited to offer the VBS Program “A Love That Never Ends” the week of July 27th thru July 31st Together with the Staff from Camp Mount Luther and volunteers from this congregation, we will experience outdoor ministries close to home! There will be fun, fellow-ship, and the Love of God through our day camp program which will include games, sports, Bible study, singing, crafts, and worship, and will run from 9 AM to 3 PM. We have placed a cap of the number of children at 75. Matt and Vicki Miller have dealt with Camp Mount Luther on many occasions in the past and have always been very happy with them. They bring the ministry to young people in a fun way. They provide the counselors (3) who teach the lessons and they do the activities and mu-sic with the children. There are several ways you as a congregation can be a part of this opportunity! 1. Volunteer for an hour or two or a day at the camp. 2. Host one of the Camp Counseling Staff at your home. 3. Make a donation of craft supplies or snack item. 4. Make a monetary donation. (On Mother’s Day, the Board of Ed will give you a potted plant as a thank you gift for your donation!) As stated above this year’s theme for VBS is “A Love that Never Ends”: Loving God and loving others sounds simple, but living it out gets more complicated. People of faith have often been called to do difficult things- to pack up and go when called, to speak difficult truths in challenging situations, to be-lieve in God’s promises, and to love even our enemies. In 2015 campers will learn about their calling to love God and others from people of the Old Testament who struggled to do the same.

~ Monday: God’s covenant with Abraham ~ Tuesday: Water in the Wilderness ~ Wednesday: Ruth and Naomi ~ Thursday: Jonah and God ~ Friday: Jeremiah’s Call The fee to LCOS for this is $300.00 per counselor, plus room and board, and IRS mileage. We will still need plenty of volunteers to assist with bathroom breaks, snack time and craft time as well. Reg-istration forms will be available at church office or by calling Christian Ed Coordinator 302-858-2659. Christian Education will be doing a Temple Talk after Easter, also there will be a volunteer sign up In the Narthex. *Sheila Galbraith will help with recruiting the volunteers and provide names since she has done this for several years herself. *Vikki Miller will find someone to host the counselors in a home. She will also see that Kelley gets the registration forms for our website and other information to be put into The Voice as well as the Sun-day bulletins to be started ASAP. *Matt Miller will speak to Donna Egolf to get an ok for him to do a Temple Talk on VBS, what our needs will be as far as food and/or feeding of counselors, snacks for the campers, craft supplies, vol-unteers, and a Potted Plant fundraiser. *Geri Ann will be taking control of the advertising by contacting the Cape Gazette to run the free ad with information to our web site to register as well as speak to the Wave and Costal Press. She will also contact The Bridge (a Christian radio station ), The Duck and WBOC to get on their streamer. All cost-efficient, of course! She also mentioned that she will look into the area craft fairs/farmers mar-kets to have a booth for LCOS VBS with information people can pick up and take with them and/or fill out there to register. SUNDAY SCHOOL is going strong and numbers are up! Please join us each Sunday at 9:45. Room 1 smaller children, Room 5 intermediate, Room 6 older youth Matt and Vikki made a suggestion for next year’s curriculum for the older students. They have found one called ‘Echo’ and they are going to order a sample for the board to review. They also found one called ‘Animate Faith’ that really seems to put your mind at work to answer very poignant questions such as; “ Is God real?” or “Why read the Bible?” Also, with this curriculum, Kelley may be able to download it to save on costs. The Youth Group met on the 15th. They decided to call themselves "The Waves of LCOS". They worked on t-shirts to wear during events, and had breakfast for dinner with make-your-own sundaes for dessert. The next Youth meeting will be April 19th at 6 PM. Jim McDonald - Asked if the Sunday School would make a donation of $250.00 to the West Side New Beginnings. They are looking to purchase a van and need $30,000.00. Jim pointed out that we have $1,169.00 in our charitable account. Marge Kunkle pointed out that the students had given $300.00 to the Orphan Grain Train. The board discussed the donation and agreed upon $250, how-ever, we want it to be placed in another Designated Fund account and then, when West Rehoboth New Beginnings is ready to purchase the van, the donation will be given.

Submitted by Matt & Vicki Miller, Gwen Kunkle-Holtgrewe & Renee Bennett

BOARD OF ELDERS Pastor’s Report: Pastor asked if we would like him to attend the SED Conference. We gave our

approval for him at attend. Pr. Stano also mentioned that the LCOS ad is missing from the Coast Press. Darlene will speak to Scott Freber about this. Pr. Stano will be on vacation from March 7 to March 17. Pr. Mordhorst will fill-in during this time.

Sr. Deb’s Report: Sr. Deb reported on her activities during January. She reported that the Mid-day Prayer events were well attended. She also updated us on upcoming Prayer events.

Communion Records: Nothing to report. Shut-in Communion: Sr. Deb distributed a list of shut-ins and folks who haven’t been to church in a

while. She encouraged us to call these folks and/or send cards. Darlene updated us on progress with the Shepherds Program. She and Barb are looking for more

folks to help with this program. With the passing of Ken Palmer, we must find someone to be Vice President since Scott Freber

has assumed the President’s position. We will be looking for new elders. Deb reviewed the schedule when she and Kelley will be out of the office or on vacation. The office

will need to be covered when Kelley is out. BOARD OF PROPERTY MANAGEMENT Monthly meetings have been moved to the second Monday of the month at 7 pm due to Lent and

Advent Midweek Worship services being on Wednesdays at 7 PM Looking into hiring a sexton and paying them an hourly rate because the hours will change from

week to week. The duties will include setting-up and dismantling rooms as needed for special meetings, events or functions; watering inside plants; washing all high windows inside and out as needed. Coming in on Saturday afternoon or evening to make sure that the building is ready for Sunday morning, which would include emptying trash, light cleaning as needed, and making sure there is toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Laying pipes under exit drive the next nice days we have. Looking into locking down areas we would like to keep outsiders out of. Making drawings of how the rooms are set up so if you change it you can put it back the way it be-

longs.  Now that the Parish House lease has been signed we can no longer give it to other people to use;

only Pastor Les Stano has control. Merv also reported on the status of the broken water pipe and flood cleanup, indicating that all re-

quired material had been sent to our insurance company and in addition no mold had been found. BOARD OF STEWARDSHIP ≤ Bob Mordhorst has graciously volunteered to head up this board. ≤ It was observed that this was the first meeting of this committee in about a year. The majority of

those present were in the discussion group charged with reflecting on LCOS' stewardship at the recent leadership retreat. We rehearsed some of the items discussed at the retreat and came up with the an agenda for this year.

≤ Utilizing the excellent materials Jim McDonald brought back from a recent LCEF workshop on stewardship, he agreed to provide monthly stewardship education articles for the monthly newslet-ter and to provide periodic bulletin inserts from those same materials.

≤ The committee will identify, plan and execute a suitable financial stewardship program for this com-ing November. The committee agreed that such an annual program is essential.

≤ In conjunction with or separate from this November stewardship program, we determined to offer a time and talents event to enable members to learn about the opportunities for service at LCOS and to commit to one or more. It was decided that rather than a stewardship fair in the fellowship hall that we utilize the screen and video projector to spotlight a service opportunities over a period of weeks, one per Sunday via a short video, and to have representatives in the narthex to answer questions and enroll willing volunteers.

≤ It was also decided that an effort should be made to use LCOS' Facebook page more effectively to educate members in Christian stewardship.

A Marty Staub will be playing at the 12 noon service, Jerry is working and Tim's away. A Jerry ordered new song books for the praise team, also to be paid for through Virginia Sigler's

Memorial. PASTOR’S REPORT (DELIVERED IN ABSENTIA) I wish to thank all of you for your faithfulness and continued support during this transition time.

These times not only affect the life of the congregation but each disciple of LCOS is affected in some personal way. I know that I often raise questions that may “shake things up” but this is only because the process calls for the use of what I call “new eyes” to see what is occurring in the life and processes of LCOS and to encourage each of you to see and respond. I am not the change agent – you are. If something has become off course, you need to take the rudder and bring it back. I can provide insights and maps but each of you, working as a whole, being directed and blessed by our Lord, steadies the course.

I continue to be busy with Wednesday and Sunday services, plus some shut-in calls and hospital visitations. I have adjusted my schedule to accommodate for Wednesday Lent by leaving earlier on Wednesdays. I will still try to leave later on Sundays, sometimes waiting until Monday morning -just because.

The new member class begins this Sunday, March 1 and will meet each Sunday from around 12:30 – 1:30 pm. Do not be surprised if I ask for your presence somewhere along the line. It is important for new members to not only to have mentors but to know the leadership. New mem-bers will be welcomed on Sunday, April 12 – the week after Easter.

I am working with Deb, Jim, Bob, and Kelley on the spiritual growth opportunity of “What on Earth Am I Here For? This begins April 12. As the Spiritual leader, I am counting on each of you to take ACTIVE participation in this opportunity. Leadership ALWAYS sets the example for the other dis-ciples – if you don’t – they won’t!

I have processed the paperwork for credentials at Beebe Medical Center as a visiting clergy. In the hopper there is a wedding scheduled for May 9. I have also cleared it with the District so I can attend the convention as your Pastoral Delegate. I again must give thanks to the Lord for Deb, who has and continue to help in so many ways dur-

ing this transitional time. You are blessed to have her in ministry with you. I also give thanks for Kelley who does an excellent job in the office. They make my ministry so much easier.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me or call me. We are in ministry together. Thanks for the privilege to serve with you.

THANK YOU Les, Debbie, Jerry and “The Ladies” – Thank you for all that was done before, during, and after to make my mother’s funeral service the best possible. Mom had complete confidence and peace with what was going to be able to be provided for her service and she was 100% correct. It was beautiful and would have thrilled my mother (perhaps it did!). I appreciate all your time and energies spent on our family and my mother, Jane. Sincerely, Andi Pedigo TO THE LUTHERAN CHURCH OF OUR SAVIOR The members of the Stockley Auxiliary wish to thank you for your generous donation. The money will be used to enrich the lives of the developmentally chal-lenged. -Stockley Auxiliary Sussex County VP – Diane O’Shea Dear Friends at LCOS – Thank you for the cards, flowers, visits, and phone calls. I greatly appreciated them more than you can ever know. The radiation treatments have been successful and they tell us the brain tumor is now gone. Thanks be to God. I am continuing to heal otherwise, and I am gradually gain-ing back my strength. With the love of Jesus, the great physician – Jean Kiefer. THANK YOU Your sympathy in the recent loss of my mother, Evelyn Long, will long be remembered. We appreciate all your prayers, sympathy cards, phone calls, and heartfelt concern during the last few weeks. We found such comfort in the thoughtfulness of our LCOS family. Thank You. The D'Annunzio Family THANK YOU I hope everyone enjoyed the Wednesday evening Soup and Salad suppers as much as I did. I want to send out a special thank you to everyone who made soup and/or dessert. With the weath-er being so bad our attendance was down, we also did not have as many people sign up to bring food, so some of those that did ended up cooking more than once. I really appreciate all you did. I also want to thank all the ladies who showed up early to set up the tables and arrange the desserts and distribute the soup. Thank you, also, to Al & Jim who showed up each Wednesday to wash dishes. Thank you one and all; I love our church family! -Marilyn Davis. THANK YOU for your support as we celebrated my dad. He felt very much at home at Our Savior and found great purpose in leading the congregation. I know he will be missed. Our love, Kris Hayden & Jeny Rogers THE LIFE OF Ken Palmer was celebrated February 27, 2015 at LCOS with a memorial service followed by a memorial luncheon. A sincere thank you to all of you: the callers, the setting of the tables, preparing food, setting up the buffet tables, serving where needed, monetary donations, the dishwashers, and bou-quets of yellow roses adorning the tables. Ken’s daughters were very appreciative for the delicious food served at the luncheon and the beautiful memorial service given. Thank you – once again, a great job well done. – Shirley Nester A FEW THOUGHTS ON SERVICE

Several years ago we adopted a new logo designed for LCOS, the Hands of a Serv-ant. The sign over the door as we exit Church reads the Servant Entrance! Our Mission statement mentions that we are to Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with ALL people, and one of the charges in that statement is by Service. We as members are to practice the mission statement every day, by every member. If we are following the Lord we will be seeking to serve men. If we are not seeking to serve others from pure motives, then we aren’t following the Lord, at least not closely. Christ told his disciples, whom He wanted to follow in His steps, “The Son of man did not come to be served but to serve,” and He also said “I am among you as one Who

serves”. Mark 10:45; Luke 22:27.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER Do Not Be Afraid! “A young man dressed in a white robe...said, ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, Who was cruci-fied. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter...’ ” (Mark 16:5-7). “Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.” (Mark 16:8). Who wouldn’t tremble and be afraid! You go to anoint a body to prepare it for a proper burial, but the body is missing. Then some ethereal creature tells you the body isn’t there because it is no longer dead but alive. Who could take it in? “Don’t be alarmed” the man in white said. Yeah, right! Yet, looking back, perhaps the women remembered the thousands He had fed with only two fish and five loaves of bread (Matthew 14:15-21). Maybe they thought again about the raising of Lazarus from the dead (John 11:38-44). After all, He was the one who had stilled the raging sea (Mark 4:35-41). Somewhere, sometime, that trembling and bewilderment turned to joy and faith, for they did go tell His disciples and Peter (Matthew 28:8). And Jesus met them and greeted them, and they worshipped Him. “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brothers ...’ ” (Matthew 28:9-10). Jesus’ last command is the same as this one: Don’t be afraid. Go and tell. We can understand the fear of the women at the empty tomb. What are we afraid of? Trouble? Or hardship? Persecution? Or famine? Nakedness? Or danger? Or sword? There is no fear in these things! “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us” (Romans 8:35, 37). We have the benefit of history. The women at the tomb couldn’t fathom the outcome, but we have God’s Word that assures us of our victory in Christ. We have His promise, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). So don’t be afraid! Go and tell! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! And may God bless you on your stewardship journey! Either we follow God’s ways or our own. There is no middle ground. “No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matthew 6:24). Yes, Virginia! There is Choir After Easter

I guess this is a very free paraphrase of a quote found in a September 21, 1897 editorial published in the New York Sun newspaper, but believe me, the para-phrase is true! There is Choir after Easter. Our Chancel Choir will be singing for a few more weeks. We hope you will join us. Let’s make this a “trial offer”: come sing with us for 6 weeks. No long-term commitment! If you live a little far from church, the sun is still shining at 7 PM when we begin our rehearsals, and before long the

evening light will still be there when we finish. All that makes the drive more pleasant. If you have children in spring sports, I bet that over the next few weeks, they or you could find a way to work out the few scheduling overlaps that might occur. (Car pool, anyone?) Remember, choir alter-nates services, so singing at the 8 AM service some Sunday may just work for you on game day. If some other task or responsibility is holding you back, I bet I can suggest a solution! And, even as our altos and sopranos continue to perform so well, they are getting a little lonely! It would be great to have a few more ladies. Think about it; it’s hard to pass up a “trial offer” And so, Virginia, “Yes, there is choir after Easter”. My question to you is, “Will you be a part of it?” Tim Vezzetti

DID YOU KNOW? How we calculate the date of Easter: Easter is always on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the 21st of March. The earliest it can occur is the 22nd of March. The latest it can happen is the 25th of April.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? Why do we worship the way we do at LCOS? Why do we pray the prayers we pray, repeat the creeds we recite, work through the liturgy, and sing the songs we sing? All of the elements of our Sunday services replicate acts of worship found in Scripture and in the historical development of the Christian Church. Seeing what we do in this light can help us see our traditions as more than “we’ve always done it that way.” Instead, we can see that the Church has been “doing it that way” for a sacred reason for a long time.

Each month in 2015, we will explain a portion of our worship service. When you understand the “why”, hopefully it will add a new level of meaning to the often repeated words and give you a renewed sense of peace and connectedness with God when you participate in worship. Creeds After having heard and received the Word of God through the sermon, we respond by confessing our Christian faith. This statement of faith is called a creed, from the Latin word credo, which means “I be-lieve”. By confessing one of the Church’s historic creeds, we express our unity in the faith – the same faith that the entire Church has confessed throughout the world and across the ages. The Apostles’ Creed was not, as many assume, written by Jesus’ apostles. Rather it has its origins in the Roman Christians’ desire to counteract some of the false teachings about Jesus that were circulating around 180 AD. The present form we have dates to about the 8th century. Words have been changed and updated through time to better reflect the culture and community in which the creed is used, but the meaning never changes. The Nicene Creed was developed at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, again to state what Christians be-lieved about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, in opposition to those who denied that Jesus was truly God and truly man. The current form used today was adopted in the 1970s. Prayers of the People It is both our duty and our privilege as God’s children to bring our concerns before Him. In the prayers of the people, we pray not only for our own needs, but also for the needs of our neighbor. This is seen in the invitation: “Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.” This is the congregation’s prayer. All those present are encouraged to add their voices to each petition, responding with “hear our prayer” and also to share their own petitions aloud or silently at the ap-propriate time. ENTERING SACRED SPACE When you enter the front doors of the church, you are entering into sacred space. Many folks use the Nar-thex for socializing before, after, and even during the worship services, perhaps not realizing that their voices are carrying into the Sanctuary and intruding on those who are worshiping. Similarly, when you are in the Sanctuary, this is a time of quiet to prepare your heart and mind for the worship service. During the service, it is important to keep conversations to a minimum so as not to distract from what is happening during the service, even if it is a time when the Pastor is not speaking, such as during the offering or dur-ing Communion. You may not realize that your voice is loud or that you are disturbing others. A good rule of thumb is to restrict social conversations to the Fellowship Hall before and after the church service. It is a good thing that we find our friends here in church. It is a good thing that we feel comfortable enough with each other to treat each other like family. The Fellowship Hall is for fellowship. The Sanctuary is for prayer and worship. The Narthex is the entry (“narthex” means “porch”) and should be treated as an extension of the Sanctuary. In the spirit of treating others as you would wish to be treat-ed, please be respectful of those who wish for a quiet space both when they enter the church and when they are in the Sanctuary. Thank you.

LOL Women’s Ministry News

(Ladies of LCOS)

LCOS Book Club News April’s book selection is The Whip by Karen Kondazian. The Whip is inspired by the true story of a woman, Charlotte "Charley" Parkhurst (1812-1879) who lived most of her extraordinary life as a man. The destruction of her family drove her west to California, dressed as a man, to track the killer. Charley became a renowned stagecoach driver for Wells Fargo. Charley was the first woman to vote in America (as a man). Her grave lies in Watsonville, Califor-nia. We will meet on April 27 at 4:30pm – all are welcome to join us!

THE SAND DOLLARS will meet on April 28th at 10 AM. The program for the month is “Our Stories” and will be presented by Lois Shoemaker. The project for the month is Crisis House. A complete list of items we are collecting can be found on page 23 of the Sand Dollars booklet. Hope to see you there!

Learning sessions will include video lessons, reading assign-ments, and workbook discussion. Everyone is welcome to attend. The group lessons are offered several times during the week so you can choose one that best fits with your schedule. Gluten A "buzzword" these days, gluten is a protein found in wheat and related grains, including barley and rye. It gives dough its elasticity, helping it to rise and have a chewy texture. Gluten is also used in cosmetics, hair products and other dermatological preparations. Individuals with known celiac disease, an autoim-mune disease that affects the digestive system, wheat allergies or gluten sensitivities are prescribed glu-ten-free diets. Rice is a standard substitute. In recent years gluten has been found to cause digestive is-sues of bloating, gas, diarrhea and even constipation in the general populace. It has long been known that wheat and related grains have undergone major changes in processing and refinement since the 1950s. In order to feed more people worldwide the refinement process was shortened so as to produce more abundantly and quickly. In so doing, today's wheat is more difficult to digest especially as we age. Thus going "gluten free" or "gluten modified" may well be more than a fad.

Seeds Seeds are full of healthy fats and help add moisture and density as well as crunch and flavor to all kinds of dishes. From flaxseed to pumpkin seeds they have been cultivated as a foodstuff since 3000 BC. Recent-ly hailed as superfoods, seeds are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and beneficial fatty acids. Fold them into batters, sprinkle them on homemade pastries or toast them as a topping for a snack. Store them in a resealable bag in the freezer as their high oil content makes them perishable. Glossary of Seeds Anise: Licorice flavored, used in sweets and liquors. Caraway: Prominent in European and Scandinavian cuisine in stews and sauerkraut. Recently used in America in breads, meats and vegetables. Cumin: Earthy flavored, medium spiciness used in Indian, Middle Eastern and South American Cuisine Fennel: Revered for its pungency fennel is often used in Italian sausage , Chinese powders and Indian curries. Poppy: Common topping for bagels , breads and cookies. Poppy seeds gain flavor and intensity in grind-ing. A natural sleep aid. Pumpkin: Protein and antioxidant rich, pumpkin seeds make great snacks when roasted and salted. They also work well in salads and breads. Sunflower: Nut-like and substantial, a popular snack and cooking oil. Sunflower butter is an allergen-free alternative to peanut butter Black and white sesame: Mildly sweet, now found in almost all cuisines. Nigella: Nutty and peppery in flavor often found in Indian cuisine. Brown and golden flax : Recently found to protect against illnesses such as cancer and heart disease, especially if consumed whole. Flaxseed also aids in elimination.

ALTAR FLOWERS The following Sundays are still available for you to order altar flowers: May 17th, June 14th, every Sunday in July, August 2, August 9, August 30, September 13, October 11, December 20 and December 27. To sign up, please see the Flower Chart notebook on the counter in the Narthex. Sorry, we can honor no more than two dedications per Sunday. THE HOLY LAND CHRISTIANS WILL BE OUR GUESTS on April 12th

On April 12 during all services, we will be hearing a ministry moment about the Christians of the Holy Land, and after each service we will be hosting a display of handmade olive-wood religious carvings from Bethlehem and Jerusalem available for purchase in the church fellowship hall . These carvings are handmade by Christian families in Beth-lehem who rely on sales for their daily bread. For more than eight years those Christians have been enduring many hard-ships as tourism in Bethlehem has plummeted and access to other sources of income has been sharply restricted due to

the ongoing conflict and the volatile war situation in the country. Many Christians have left their homeland and the Christian population of the Holy Land has gone down from 30% in the last century to 1% today. Please help support our Christian brothers and sisters in the town where Christ was born by pur-chasing their carvings. George Ghanem, an indigenous Christian from Bethlehem will be telling us the story of the Christians of the Holy Land and he will be presenting these carvings after the ser-vices. All proceeds go to support Christian families from Bethlehem. It is never too late to help. The website showing the crafts is www.holylandcsc.com

MAGICAL STRINGS IN CONCERT Magical Strings will bring their vibrant ringing and soulful sounds to LCOS on Friday, April 24 at 7 PM. Their music, described by the Washington Post as "Rsonically gorgeous," will carry you to sublime realms with ancient airs and have you dancing to lively jigs and reels. Their unique compositions and stories will take you to Ireland and beyond. Phil-ip and Pam, who have been touring internationally for 36 years and have recorded over 20 albums, will be performing on their own hand-crafted Celtic harps and hammered dulcimers plus whistles, accordion and concertina. They will be playing music in-spired by their journey to Ireland last September, where they spent time on the Burren exploring ancient mystical sites, and traced the footsteps of the 17th Century Irish harper Turlough

O’Carolan. They will feature the songs Barbara’s Cottage, The Fairy Wind, and Philip’s newest, The Hermit’s Cave at their performance, weaving them into their repertoire representing the traditional Bardic ‘Three Mystical Moods of Music’ from ancient Ireland. Tickets are $15 and will be sold at the door. For more info, please visit their website: magicalstrings.com
