  • A note from the Health Clerk

    Dear 6th grade parent(s) & guardian(s),

Two important points regarding Outdoor Ed. One part is regarding medication and medication

forms. The 2nd part is regarding the clothing and supply list for Outdoor Education.

1.) As the Health Clerk Ive been collecting the medication forms and medications. I have

received a lot of medication forms, and a few medications to go along with the forms. Please

be aware that if you want your student to have medication administered during Outdoor Ed,

you need to bring it in to me. Please write your students name on each box or container and

place them in a gallon Ziploc bag. Students with inhalers may carry them if the medication

form was signed accordingly by the doctor and parent/ guardian. All other medications need

to be turned into me unless we have specifically worked something out. I am collecting and

organizing the medications for the 6th grade teachers. This is a long process considering

there are over 300 6th grade students. Please turn in medication and forms by Friday, April

3, 2014. If you have further questions, please contact me at 303-828-

    3391 or [email protected]

Thank you, Nicole Meadows, Health Clerk

2.) On Wednesday, April 1st, your 6th grade child will be given the clothing and supply list for

Outdoor Education. The supply list is also attached at the bottom of this document. In

addition, it is available on Mr. Duhon's website under the Outdoor Education tab. Please email

Chris Duhon, 6th Grade Math Teacher, if you have any questions. [email protected]

    Thank you, 6th grade team

  • Counseling Corner

There are ways for your student to peacefully settle conflicts without fighting, without

running away, and without going against their feelings or beliefs. Resolving conflicts peacefully helps keep your student safe, feeling good, and helps them learn respect for

    others.

Following are some strategies your son or daughter can use to help them solve conflicts peacefully:

First, calm down and decide whether there really is a significant problem, then think of solutions, weigh the results and choose a plan.

When meeting with the other person to settle the problem, be a good listener. Avoid interruptions and ask questions after the other person has presented his or

her side. Repeat what you have heard to make sure you understand what the problem seems to be. Present your side of the conflict. Then negotiate a

solution. It is sometimes very helpful to have a third person who can be impartial to help brainstorm ideas and develop solutions. This is where your students school counselor can help.

The Erie Middle School Renaissance program will host an assembly on April 1st to

acknowledge our students accomplishments for 3rd quarter.

    Seventh Grade

Congratulations to the 7th grade student of the month, Joseph Vennard! Joseph is a true role model for what it

means to ROAR at Erie Middle School. His passion for learning is evident in all he does and his hard work

definitely pays off! Keep striving for success Joe! The opportunities that await you are limitless! We are very

    proud of you!

Valeria Figueroa is a reliable student who quietly shows just what it means to ROAR at EMS. Valeria works hard

in class, is respectful towards all here at school and proves to be a good friend to those around her. Thank you

Valeria for setting a great example to follow. You deserve to be student of the month.

    Eighth Grade

John Schmidtke is the 8th Grade Student of the Month! John confidently and successfully does all of his

academic work. He is positive, volunteers to assist others and is a dedicated helper in the lunch room, who takes

the reponsibilty of his job seriously. You often hear him doing the morning announcements. He keeps up on the

daily bus schedules, and enjoys learning about the buses. John models the meaning of ROAR: Respect: John is a

    kind, helpful citizen of Erie Middle School; Organization: He always goes to his job in the lunch room on time;

Attitude: John uses appropriate behavior at all times in school. He exhibits good character, hard work and

honesty; Relationships: John always has a smile and a story to tell his friends and teachers. He has a positive

attitude towards classmates, school staff, learning and school.

KJ Davia is an outstanding person and student at EMS! KJ always gives her best effort, contributes in

class, and puts forth a positive attitude. She has high standards and voices her opinions while also taking

into account the thoughts and feelings of others in order to make the best judgments. KJ impresses all of

her teachers, has strong moral and academic standards, and continuously ROARs at Erie Middle School.

Keep up the great work, KJ!

6th grade is proud to nominate Kambry Fraser as our female student for the month of April! Kambry is a quiet

leader who cares about the quality of her work and always does a great job. Her quiet presence provides a "model"

of what being a successful 6th grade student at Erie Middle School looks like! Way to ROAR, Kambry.

Gael (guy-ell) Ortega has made a fantastic transition to EMS this year. He struggled at the beginning of the

year but kept a positive attitude and sought help from his teachers and attended Academic Assistance. His hard

work paid off and Gael (guy-ell) has raised his grades in many of his classes. Way to go after it, Gael (guy-ell)!

  • Elective Team Solo Award

The elective team solo award is a new award given by the elective team to students who excel in these courses.

The 8th grade Elective Team Solo Award for April goes to Ethan Elzinga. Ethan regularly leads by example in orchestra. He keeps a positive attitude and encour-ages others to do their best work. Ethan is also willing to take risks and try new things with a smile on his face. Thank you, Ethan, for making our orchestra and our school a better place everyday!

The 7th grade Elective Team Solo Award goes to Jared Gaines. Jared is a great leader in his physical education class. He helps fellow classmates, assists with equipment and does above average work. His positive attitude is infectious. Thank you, Jared for all of your hard work and determination.

The Elective Team Solo award for the 6th grade goes to Jake Peak. Jake is a valued member of his art class. Jake communicates his opinions during class discussions, and is a great help to fellow students as well as to Mr. Townsend. Jake and school go together like peas and carrots.

Students of the Month and the Elective Solo Award will have their pictures displayed

in the front office and will receive a large one topping pizza on the last Friday of the

month. Please take a minute to come to the office at your lunch time to let them know
