Hello, I am Kodi O'Boyle and I have the great job of reporting for the Michigan Quarter Horse Youth Association in 2015.

First, the Youth would like to recognize and congratulate everyone who received awards at the 2015 year end banquet. Congratulations to our 2014 Mother and Father of the year, Jeff and Christine West, and our Youth Sportsperson of the Year, Emme Lantis. Other youth members that we extend a congratulations to are: Champion Youth 14-18 All Around, Hot Lollipop and Alexandra Stark, Champion Youth 13 & Under All Around, Huntin A Good Return and Katherine West, Champion Novice Youth 13 & Under All Around, Heres Your Captive and Audrey Barnes, and Champion Novice Youth 14-18 All Around, HQH Money Talks and Miller Lantis.

This year the youth have had a great start! We held a membership drive at the MQHA tack sale in February and at this event the youth association gained 21 new members. At the same event, the youth sponsored a fundraiser. We served soup and baked goods to tack sale and clinic attendees. The soup and delicious baked goods were a big hit that they ran out by two o'clock!

The youth are working on two big fundraisers this year. We are looking for sponsors to help support the association activities. Sponsorships will allow for youth teams to attend conferences and shows with little to no expense. Sponsorships can be accepted at any level of donation and all come with advertising in the MQHA Journal and many other benefits to thank you, the donor for your generosity.

The second fundraiser is a raffle where youth members are selling tickets at $5.00 per ticket and the winner could win $1000.00! If you would like to help in either, or both of these fundraisers, all you have to do is look for a youth member, and ask them to participate.

The MQHYA Spartan Spectacular show in May of this year will be hosting the Thayne Miner Memorial Horsemanship class. Any Michigan youth can enter, and it is a free class.

A reminder to all youth members that if you are interested in competing at the Youth World Show or on the Congress NYATT teams, the letter of intent is posted on the MQHA website at www.miquarterhorse.com, under the youth tab. These letters must be post marked by May 15, 2015. There are some new requirements, so make sure you review the letters carefully.

Hi my name is Madison Sharnowski. I am 17 years old and a senior at Swartz Creek High School. I have been showing Quarter Horse for two years with my companion Chex My Pulse, aka Spot. Outside of horses, I like to spend my time with my family and friends and I also love to sing. After graduating, I plan to go to school to become a nurse.

Hi, my name is Sasha Glover and I am pleased to serve MQHYA as president this year. I am a recent graduate of Webberville High School and I am now attending Lansing Community College. Although I have never shown horses through Michigan Quar ter Horse, my continued love for horses and business, drive me to love this association so much. I am looking forward to a great year and hope to see you around!

I am 18 years old and a senior at Caledonia High School. I have participated in 4-H, and on Middle School and High School Equestrian Teams. This will be my fourth year showing MQHA. I have been enjoying my new position as the MQHYA Treasurer. My goal this year is to represent Michigan at the Youth World Show. Last year I had a great time on the NYATT team and hope to compete with my fellow youth again. Outside of horses, I like to run and spend time with family and friends. Good luck to everyone this show season!

Hello, my name is Miller Lantis. I am fifteen, and currently attend Corunna High School. My favorite activities include playing basketball, running, and of course spending time with horses or doing horse related activities. This upcoming show season will be my third year

showing on the MQHA circuit, all of which I have been so thankful to do! I am also the 2015 Vice President of the MQHYA Board. I have been on the board for three years and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. I wish everyone the best of luck this show season!

I am Kodi OBoyle and horses are a big part of my life, as well as MQHYA. I have been a board member for the last 10 years and I have helped with most of the fundraisers the youth have held. My yearly goals are to show at the Youth

World Show and secure a position on the NYATT Team at the Congress. Currently I am serving as reporter, chairperson for our membership and on the Thayne Miner Memorial Horsemanship committee. I attend high school in Saint Louis, MI.

MQHYA

Miller is a freshman at Corunna High School where she participates on the basketball and track team. She has been showing on the MQHA and AQHA circuit for three years. The past show season, she won the MQHA Novice All Around 14-18. She was Novice Youth Champion in the 14-18 Showmanship, Horsemanship and Trail. Miller was Youth Reserve Champion All Around and Reserve in Youth 14-18 Showmanship and Horsemanship. She was a finalist at the 2014 All American Quarter Congress in the 12-14 Western Pleasure and 12-14 Showmanship classes. Millers year-end standing in the nation was 4th in the Novice Youth Showmanship, 11th in the Novice Youth Trail and 13th in Novice Youth Horsemanship.This past December, Miller lost her best friend and show partner, HQH Money Talks, also known as Rodney. Even though this was an extremely tough loss for her, she still plans on pursuing her show career and getting back in the saddle. Miller will be attending all shows to see her many friends, and help them with their showing endeavors.Miller currently holds the position as the 2015 MQHYA Vice President, and she has been on the MQHYA board for the last three years.

Happy Spring Everyone!I for one am so happy to finally be able to ride my horse in a sweatshirt. I am also so excited that the show season is officially underway!The last couple of months have been very busy for me. I was so honored and privileged to do a forum at the first annual MQHA Clinic Weekend on Equine Royalty. I know the lectures by many very well educated horsemen and women were well received. I was also able to attend the Michigan Horse Expo in March and represent MQHA at our booth. It was an exciting morning of sharing my equine knowledge with fellow horse enthusiasts, while informing many people about not only AQHA, but also about our wonderful association, the Michigan Quarter Horse Association! Lastly, I would like to mention that it is never to early to start considering to run for MQHA Queen. Information is available on the MQHA website and applications are due this coming June.
