experience gained before requesting a sign-off for each position

• Ask the Session Referee for a sign-off / deck evaluation before you begin the session

• Two (2) sign-offs are required for almost every position (BUT not in the same meet)

• Expectations for deck experience should be in a variety of pools with different meet types and different evaluators

Safety Marshal

Typically wears a bright coloured safety vest or similar clothingTimeframe: from the start of warm-up to when the pool is cleared in anticipation of the start of meetEnsures that all warm-up procedures are followed: Diving starts shall not be made during two-way swimming

unless specified lanes (sprint lanes) are designated: then only one-way swimming in those lanes

Semi-Automatic Officiating Equipment

At some meets plungers (semi automatic equipment) are used as part of the timing

systemThis equipment records the elapsed time of each swimmer and determines the relative place in a raceThe plunger is activated by the Starter and stopped by the timer using the index finger to press the button on the plunger ONLY at the finish of the race (or for splits if so instructed by the Chief Timekeeper)
