Jesus answered the devil, “It is written, ‘Worship the
Lord your God, and serve only him.’”
Luke 4:8
Following Jesus’ baptism, the Holy Spirit led him into the
wilderness where the devil offered him the glory and authority of all
the kingdoms and nations of the world if Jesus would worship him. In
other words, if Jesus would adore and honor the devil as ruler over
all creation, as ruler over his life. Having just been baptized and
hearing God proclaim, ‘This is my son, the beloved,’ the devil is now
challenging Jesus to deny this identity. Jesus responds saying,
“Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.” So who or what we
worship is very important. It is in fact an issue of identity.
For the Christian, worship is the central act of faith. Worship
shapes us into being the people of God: persons called by God to
participate in God’s mission of life for the world. We gather for
worship each week to have our identities as God’s beloved affirmed
and then sent into the world to serve God by loving others and
sharing this good news.
Who or what we worship transforms us. Worship informs our
understanding of our identity as individuals and our relationship
with others and with creation. Worship is very important.
The truth is: everyone worships something. Whatever shapes our
daily perspective of the world, whatever receives our time and money
that is what one worships.
In response to the importance of worship, Kathy Baas, Worship
and Music Chairperson, and the Worship and Music ministry team
are working very hard to create additional worship options.
One of these new options begins this month. On Tuesday, April 9th
(and again on May 14th) at 7:00 pm, we will offer a Taize worship
service based on the worship practices of the Taize faith community
in Taize, France. This candlelight service is peaceful and centering-
offering simple songs, prayers and time to meditate on a passage of
scripture and be renewed by the Holy Spirit. Beginning in June, we
will offer this Tuesday evening worship service on a weekly basis.
I pray that you will make a renewed commitment to worship. To
experience God’s presence in your life and have your identity as God’s
beloved affirmed. Together we worship the Lord our God, and serve
only him.
Blessings and peace, beloved children of God!

Table of Contents
Baptism
Adults who desire to be baptized, or those who want to have their child
baptized, are invited to contact the church office. In the case of Adult
Baptism, candidates are encouraged to worship and attend a Sunday morning Bible Study. Those
who want to have their child baptized are asked to schedule a Baptism Preparation session with
Pastor Tom prior to the baptism. P.T. looks forward to talking with you! Please speak with him if
you have questions.
Saturday Morning Bible Study
April 13th and 27th, 8:30-10:00am
Downstairs in the Great Hall
Making Sense of the Cross, invites us to “listen in” on an open conversation about the cross
and encourages us to think about and experience the cross and its meaning for our lives. There is
no expectation of certain prior knowledge of the Bible or theology. Just bring your questions and
openness to talk about matters of the cross and resurrection of Jesus. It is not necessary to
attend every session. Come as you are able to enjoy morning coffee and conversation. Bring a
friend! For additional information, contact Tammie at 654-3256 or [email protected].
Sunday's Com'n
Each Wednesday morning at 8:30am, gather with Pastor Tom in the Gathering Space to
reflect on the scripture reading for the coming Sunday. No experience necessary. We read the
text and share how it makes us feel and the thoughts and questions it generates. It's all good!
Reminder!
Please remember that on the first Sunday of each month, reflection time is held
before each service. Please enter the sanctuary in silence on the first Sunday for
prayerful, pre-service reflection time

“The desire for communion with God has been set within the human
heart since the dawn of time. The mystery of that communion
touches what is most intimate in us, reaching down to the very
depths of our being.”

New Member Sunday
New Member Sunday will be April 21st at both services. Anyone interested in becoming a new

first week of April to interested individuals. Plan on attending "Trinity 101: Welcome to Our
Church" on Thursday, April 18th, from 6:30-7:30pm. Pastor Tom and members of the church
council will share an overview of the church and you will have a chance to ask questions.

Trinity Together
Just like peanut
butter and jelly are
great together,
Trinity Church is a
great place because
of all the great
people of the
different
organizations that
call Trinity home. Trinity Co-op Preschool
would like all the organizations that call
Trinity home to unite and collect peanut butter
and jelly donations through April 17th.
Donations will then be distributed through the
Cupboard Bound Program at Trinity and
Shalom Soup Kitchen. Please place donations
in purple and red bins marked “Trinity
Together”.
Help us beat last years collection of 125
items!
Pancreatic Cancer Fundraiser
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network,
otherwise known as Pan Can, is having an
event called Purplestride, a walk/run that
raises money to aid research of pancreatic
cancer. The event will take place at Miller
Park on Saturday, June 1st. Registration
begins at 11:00am and the closing ceremonies
will commence at 1:45pm. Ann Harms, a
pancreatic cancer survivor and member of
Trinity, will be walking to raise money. There
will be a donation box in the Gathering Space
starting on Sunday, April 7th. Donations can be
made through Sunday, May 19th. Any checks
should be made out to the Pancreatic Cancer
Action Network. There will also be pledge
sheets, so if families are interested in
participating in the walk/run they can get
sponsors to raise additional money for the
cause. If anyone has any unanswered
questions, they can contact Ann Harms at 262-
764-9110.
Shalom Center Walk Against
Hunger
The Shalom Center is holding their 17th
Annual Walk Against Hunger on May 18th at
Veteran’s Park (54th Street and 6th Avenue).
The registration will be at 9:00am and the
walk starts at 9:30am. The distance is a 1 or 3
mile walk.
There will be awards for the youngest
walker, oldest walker, highest individual
fundraiser, highest group fundraiser and group
with the most walkers.
If interested, a sign up sheet will be in the
Gathering Space at the church or you can
contact Cathleen Warren at 262-658-1713 x107
or email Cathleen at [email protected].
Attention Quilters and
Crafters
The Lutherdale Quilt Fest will be in August
this year and items for the festival will be
taken to Lutherdale in June to be put on
auction or sold. Anyone interested in donating
an item (or more) may leave them in the
church office by June 1st.
Rides to Church
It has come to the attention of the Witness
Ministry that there are individuals who are
unable to attend church services because of
lack of transportation or the inability to drive.
We are looking for members that would be able
to provide transportation to and from church
services once a month. If you need a ride or are
willing to provide a ride, please contact the
church office, 694-5050, or Rhonda Brennan,
942-0587, to register.

Dear members of Trinity,
February was an almost
month, a little short in
both Unified and
Mortgage. Thank you all
for keep up with your
Unified Giving and Debt
Reduction.
Just a little reminder
about how you can give
funds to the church. One
way is putting cash or a
check in the offering plate. Another way is by using Simply Giving each month, which is direct
withdrawal from your checking account. Simply Giving is what Krista and I do each month. We also
have on our website a button that you can click and give. Also we have a "square" that you can
swipe a credit card with. And another way is giving stock or life insurance.
And finally you can give your time doing things around the church.
Hope you had a Happy Easter!
Thanks,
Jim Lichtenheld

Adult Forum
The Care for Creation Team is pleased to announce that Sister Janet Weyker, director
of the Racine Dominican Eco-Justice Center, will be our guest speaker during the adult
education hour on Sunday, April 21st. It is no coincidence that this is the day before Earth Day. The
sisters and staff of the center model sustainable, simple living through organic gardening, raising
poultry, and caring for five alpaca. Renewable energy features at the center include solar hot water,
solar electric, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and wind electric. Check out their website at
www.racinedominicans.org and click on ECO-JUSTICE Center. And then please come to hear Sister
Janet on April 21st. You’ll be glad you did.
Trinity Recycles
Thank you to all who donated athletic shoes for recycling. The components of the shoes will be
ground up for reuse. Our collection drive has ended. We urge you to continue to recycle your athletic
shoes. Simply drop them off at the Nike store at the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets.
During the month of April we will be collecting eyeglasses. Instead of throwing out that old pair
of glasses bring them to church during the month of April and place them in the basket in the entry
hallway. That simple act could help a child learn to read, an adult succeed in her job, or help a
senior citizen maintain his independence. We will donate the glasses we collect to the Lion’s Club.
Happenings among other Kenosha Green Congregations:
Bradford U.U. Church (5510 8th Ave.) will be showing the film, “Green Fire”, the story of Aldo
Leopold, at 7:00pm on Saturday, April 13th. All are welcome. Enter at the front door. The film will be
shown in the sanctuary.

An offering was given in memory of Claude Mackay Sr., brother to Peggy Pierce and Fern
Morgan, from Peggy and Pete Pierce towards the Building Debt Reduction, towards the
Property Fund from Margie Slavik and Helen Oechler, and towards the Memorial Fund
from Jim and Audrey Steel.

The Social ministry and CUSH committee
will meet on the first Sunday of the month, in
the church library between services at 9:10am.
The next meeting will be on April 7th.
Please remember CANS FOR CUSH on
April 7th. Please drop off any bagged
aluminum cans in the back hallway of the
church on the first Sunday of each month. The
recycling money will benefit CUSH.
Kenosha CUSH folks participated in the
daylong gathering, People of Faith United for
Justice, on Thursday, March 14th. Over 900
people spoke with legislatures to advocate for
funding of social justice programs.
Specifically, CUSH continues to work on the
statewide initiative to use state funding for
treatment programs for non-violent offenders
instead of incarcerating these individuals.
This is the CUSH 11 X 15 Campaign.
Social Ministry has the following events
during April: Cupboard Bound food ministry,
the Shalom Center soup kitchen and the
Dayton Bingo party.
The Bingo party for the Dayton
residents is scheduled for
Thursday, April 18th at 6:00pm at the Dayton
Residential Care Facility downtown Kenosha.
Volunteers and prizes are needed. Contact
Nancy Lehrke at 694-2624 if you are able to
help.
The CUSH annual banquet is coming up on
May 9th. Tickets will be on sale in the
Gathering Space between services. See the
bulletin for more details since the price has
not yet been determined. The keynote speaker
will be Rev. Joseph Ellwanger, ELCA pastor
and social justice advocate. Rev. Ellwanger is
a remarkable man who participated with Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. in the civil rights
marches and movement. Please consider
attending this worthwhile fundraiser for
CUSH. They have a wonderful silent auction,
too.
