Fellow Riders!My name is Kenny Brown-Life Member…

Traditionally a group of us have had our bikesshipped somewhere fun in the United States everyyear and then ride home from that destination. Thisyear, I was planning to ship our bikes to Seattle, WA(a great trip we’ve done in the past). Is anyoneinterested in joining in on this venture? It’s been verysuccessfully over the past years and the more bikesthat we can get, the cheaper the cost for everyone.

I will take care of setting up airfare and shippingthrough Barrett Moving & Storage. Their trailerholds about 26 bikes. Once we arrive onsite, it willbe your responsibility to map your own ride home. The date for the Seattle, WA trip is set for August3rd, 2007. This might be a good opportunity for youto start out west in Seattle and make your way to thebig Sturgis Rally!

If you have any questions or are interested inparticipating, please e-mail me at [email protected]

REPRINT FROM RACING PRESS“Springfield Mile and TT Motorcycle Races on Tap

Memorial Day” In the fast and furious world of AMA Grand NationalDirt Track racing many consider Springfield and theIllinois State Fairgrounds, the Mecca of the sport. This Memorial Day weekend, May 26 & 27,thousands of race fans will converge on Springfieldfor two of the sports premier events. Saturday, nightit’s the Springfield TT and Sunday, it’s the legendarySpringfield Mile. Both Illinois Motorcycle DealersAssociation produced events are NationalChampionship races in the AMA Ford QualityChecked Flat Track Championship Series.

Motorcycle racing at Springfield dates back to1937, when the first AMA Class C NationalChampionship was held on The Springfield Mile. From then until 1954, the winner of The Mile earnedthe most coveted prize in Dirt Track competition, theNational Champion’s number 1 plate.

The TT race combines broad sliding flat trackcorners, a tight unforgiving infield section, and ahigh-flying jump. The track is the ultimate test ofracers all around riding skills. Most riders will usemodified motocross bikes to tame the twisting trackat the picturesque outdoor Arena.

Then on Sunday afternoon, the nation’s best racersroll out their fire-breathing 750cc twin-cylinder racebikes to attack the track that made Springfieldfamous, the lightning fast mile. Racers bravado, heavy horsepower and a dose of tuners expertisecombine in a high-speed chess match. The Mile isknown for conga line racing where intense in yourface drafting wars result in multiple lead changesevery lap. After 25 contentious miles, the winnerusual just inches ahead of a tight pack to list his nameamong the Who’s Who of Dirt Track with victories onThe Mile.

A Thank You From The Ronald McDonald House!

LOH received a great letter from the RonaldMcDonald House thanking us for our contributions ofPop Tabs. So I thought I would share someinformation about the program with you…

A pop tab is the piece of metal that opens aluminumcans. Like the can, the pop tab is recyclable. It is asmall piece, yet a refundable piece. All the collectionsadd up to make a heartfelt impact in working togetherto provide a home-away-from-home for familiesduring the medical treatment of their seriously illchildren. Pop tabs are an easy way to recycle and helpothers and it is a task that people of all ages can do.These small pieces are a source of charitable revenuefor the Ronald McDonald House. The amount ofmoney received is determined by the weight ofaluminum collected. Saving the tab is a simple andclean way of recycling for the House and it only takesa second. The dollars raised are used for serviceoperations and supplies for the Ronald McDonaldHouse. Money received is not credited toward anymedical treatment. We are really excited about ourincreased participation. Please help us try for anotherrecord-breaking year! Here are some fun facts aboutCan Tabs!

Facts :■ 1 pound = 1,267 tabs ■ 1 ton = 2,534,000 tabs ■ 1 yard = 36 tabs ■ 1,000,000 tabs = 16.75 miles

Adopt-A-HigwayApril 8, 9:00 am

Finn’s Bar & Grill, Wales, WI

Remember to participatein the first Adopt-A-Highway cleanup of 2007.We meet in the parking lotof Finn’s Bar & Grill inWales on Highway 18, justeast of Highway 83,between 8:30 and 9:00 am,sign-in, have a brief safetytalk, distribute bags/pick-upsticks/grabbers/safety vestsand begin the cleanup at9:00 am. We did a brief drive-by inspection of thetrash build-up on Sunday, March 18, and saw lots tokeep us busy for an hour or so. The first cleanup ofthe season is always the busiest because we have anentire winter of items to get caught up on. We sawlots of milk containers, cans, bottles, papers, andassorted stuff out there that needs our attention. And it’s always a contest to see who can rescue thecheapest wine bottles from the ditch by the Pick &Save west of Highway 83. Bring a sturdy set ofwork gloves (not your pricey riding gloves!) andwear substantial shoes or boots so you can worksafely on the roadside. After the cleanup, join us atFinn’s for a cold drink. We checked with the ownerand he welcomes us back again and enjoysparticipating in this effort. We’ll see you on April 8!If you didn’t get this info on time, we do it all againon May 13.
