Welcome

But for me it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28

We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to him through the merit of Christ crucified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that he will draw near to us (James 4:8).

If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary. A husband and wife team will also be available at the front of the sanctuary following the service to speak with anyone interested in exploring what it means to know Jesus Christ or to join this church.

May our gracious Lord draw near to you wonderfully in this service today.

Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.

The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake.

Worship the LORD with gladness;

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever.

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Let us worship God.

† The Invocation

† The Confession of Faith ...................................................................The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And we believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Response

The grass withers and the flowers fall,

But the word of our God stands forever.

The Personal Confession of Sin

The Corporate Confession of Sin (Please kneel)

I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: Oh Lord, the great and awesome God,I have sinned and done wrong.I have been wicked and have rebelled;I have turned away from your commands and laws.I have not turned from my sins and given attention to your truth. Now, my God, hear my prayers. I do not make requests of you because I am righteous,

but because of your great mercy.O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive!

from Daniel 9

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come.Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread,And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. The Offertory - As the Bridegroom to His Chosen .................................................RutterElizabeth Johnson, Jennifer Leverett, soloists

As the bridegroom to his chosen, as the king unto his realm,as the keeper to the castle, as the pilot to the helm,as the captain to his soldiers, as the shepherd to his lambs,so, Lord, art thou to me.

As the fountain in the garden, as the candle in the dark,as the treasure in the coffer, as the manna in the ark,as the firelight in the winter, as the sunlight in the spring,so, Lord, art thou to me.

As the music at the banquet, as the stamp unto the seal,as refreshment to the fainting, as the winecup at the meal,as the singing on the feast day, as the amen to the prayer,so, Lord, art thou to me.

As the ruby in the setting, as the honey in the comb,as the light within the lantern, as the father in the home,as the eagle in the mountains, as the sparrow in the nest,so, Lord, art thou to me.

As the sunshine in the heavens, as the image in the glass,as the fruit unto the fig tree, as the dew unto the grass,as the rainbow on the hilltop, as the river in the plain,so, Lord, art thou to me.

Psalm 100:2

Jazz Prelude - A Joyful Song

The Shorter Catechism in Modern English, Question 94: Q: What is baptism?

A: The sacrament of baptism is a washing with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, which is a sign and seal that we are joined to Christ, that we receive the benefits of the covenant of grace, and that we are engaged to be the Lord’s.

Offertory - Our Great God ............................................................Powell & OrtegaDenae O’Neil and Charlie Knox

Eternal God, unchanging, mysterious and unknown, your boundless love unfailing, in grace and mercy shown, bright seraphim in endless flight around your glorious throne, they raise their voices day and night in praise to you alone.

Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God! Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God!

Lord, we are weak and frail, helpless in the storm.Surround us with your angels, hold us in your arms. Our cold and ruthless enemy, his pleasure is our harm.Rise up, oh Lord, and he will flee before our sovereign God.

Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird;let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth;let all the moons and all the stars in all the universesing praises to the living God, who rules them by his word.
