Outline
• Composition of the Association EURATOM/LEI
• Plans for participation in Power Plant Physics and Technology Implementing Agreement
• Association priorities in European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond
Composition of EURATOM/LEI
• At present EURATOM/LEI association is composed of two organisations: – Lithuanian Energy Institute (leading organisation)– Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of Vilnius
University• Both organisations expressed an interest to participate
to Power Plant Physics and Technology Implementing Agreement (PPP&T IA) under EFDA
• There is active cooperation of LEI with IPP-Greifswald and cooperation of VU ITPA with ADAS and JET
EURATOM/LEI and PPP&T IA• Within PPP&T IA, LEI has intention to contribute to the topic
“Consolidation of Engineering Design basis” (“including design and safety requirements, standards, design inputs, design rules, technical basis for the design, and their ranges of uncertainty” – Work Plan of PPP&T Implementing Agreement).
• In co-operation with EURATOM/IPP the following works can be performed within PPP&T Implementing Agreement:– system, safety and uncertainty analyses (in co-operation with
EURATOM/IPP)– Thermal-hydraulic analyses using the different computer codes (ASTEC,
COCOSYS)
European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond
• Main priorities of Lithuanian Energy Institute in European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond:– W7-X Safety and Licensing (LEI in co-operation with
EURATOM/IPP)– ITER Safety and Licensing (LEI – partners for co-operation to
be found and activities initiated)– DEMO Safety and Licensing (LEI – partners for co-operation
to be found and activities initiated)– Involvement of doctoral students for work and development of
doctoral thesis in field of FUSION related research
European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond
• Examples of fields of LEI interest in Safety and Licensing analysis:– Thermohydraulic analysis – Structural and fracture analyses of piping and plasma vessel– Combined H2/dust explosion analysis (incl. mitigation)– Probabilistic system analysis, incl. uncertainty analysis – Neutronic analysis (Nuclear Data) – Occupational Radiological Exposure
European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond
• Main priorities of Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of Vilnius University in European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond:– Development of the theory of many-body systems
and production of spectroscopic parameters for plasma diagnostic
– Involvement of doctoral students for work and development of doctoral thesis in field of FUSION related research
