TILS and LED Taiwan 2017 Together Usher in New Golden Age of Global Lighting IndustryNumerous trendsetting LED lighting solutions and innovative lighting fixtures on display will inspire visitors as market demand continues to swell

With LED lighting popularity rapidly climbing worldwide, the Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS) continues to be held in conjunction with LED Taiwan at the same venue this year, serving as a one-stop sourcing platform for buyers looking for new opportunities.

LEDinside, a Taiwan-based market research institute, indicates that global market demand for LED l ight ing was est imated at US$30.5 b i l l ion in 2016, compared to US$25.7 billion in 2015, with the penetration rate of such products rising to 36 percent.

Given that ever more global LED lighting suppliers in the wake of continuous price drops of LED bulbs and lamps for household use have shifted focus to special ized applications, such as industrial lighting, commercial lighting and landscape lighting, some of global market researchers opine that global sales of LED lighting will show a CAGR of nearly 17 percent during 2016-2020.

In the scenario, the 2-in-1 exhibition hosts a total of 150 exhibitors manning 500 booths in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, representing a thorough supply chain of lighting products covering lighting fixtures, special lighting, test& inspection equipment, LEDs and LED l ighting, manufacturing equipment and materials, etc.

Focusing on lighting applications, TILS 2017 is organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and

implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) along with Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA), with support from China Economic News Service, a local export media agency.

An extensive product lineup in fine organization has been among features of the trade fair. At this year’s edition, exhibits are categorized into Home/Residential Lighting; Commercial Lighting; Intelligent Lighting; Outdoor Lighting; Lighting for Kitchen & Furniture; Plant Factory & Lighting; Automotive Lighting; Special Lighting; Health Care and Institutional Lighting, Medical, Cosmetic and Beauty Lighting, Building Material & Lighting Applications; Lighting Accessory; Lighting Production Equipment; Test & Inspection Equipment.

Some big-name enterprises in the line are present at the venue for the moment, including China Electric MFG. Corp. (CE), Delta Electronics Inc., Epistar Corporation, Golden Way Electronics Corp., Mean Well Enterprises, MLS Taiwan, Nan Ya Photonics Inc., Panasonic Eco Solutions, Taiwan Super Trend Lighting, Taiwan Tang Hua and Unity Opto Technology, to name a few.

Underlining Taiwan’s high manufacturing reputat ion in LEDs, LED Taiwan 2017, organized by SEMI Taiwan and TAITRA, and co-organized by the Taiwan Optoelectronic Semiconductor Industry Association (TOSIA), is highlighted with a full spectrum of exhibits, encompassing theme pavilions, industrial summit/forum, and academic paper

presentations. Two new pavilions – “IR/UV” and “Laser” – will be added to the existing “Sapphire”, “High-Brightness LED”, “LED manufacturing Equipment & Material” and “LED Components” pavilions.

In addition to products, technology innovations and solut ions brought by exhibitors, TILS 2017 is noted for a slate of concurrent events and forums organized, including 11th Taiwan Solid State Lighting Conference (tSSL, Apr i l 12th -13th ) , workshops on Lighting Design Festival (April 14, 10am-12am) and Lighting Development under Smart City (April 14th, 2pm-4pm), and so forth, which are designed to not just help participants keep themselves updated with the latest market trends and technological advances, but generate more mutual benefits between exhibitors and visitors.

To buyers often craving for something new as a means to shore up their businesses, there are some events that they should not miss out on during the exhibition. For example, “Innovative Product Awards” highlights eight finalists with their unique, trendy products in three categories: Lighting parts and components, Outdoor lighting fixture & system, and Indoor lighting fixture & system. Golden Way Electronics Corp., Ltd., a major Taiwanese supplier of electronic ballasts and LED drivers, brings to TILS 2017 its brand new LED planar lighting fixtures that are suitable for use in office buildings, factories, hospitals, shopping malls and warehouses, and other commercial application.

Golden Way’s LED planar lighting fixtures are noted for a high luminous efficacy of up to 160 lm/W, to save 50 percent of the electricity consumed by ordinary LED light tubes and panel lights with efficacy of 80-90 lm/W, or as high as 85% of that by conventional T5 and T8 tubes.

The product meets U.S.’s latest technical requirements DLC 4.0, and offers a five-year, 20,000-hour warranty, which guarantees a lumen maintenance factor of over 97% to raise the bar for LED lighting products.

Additionally, the product is equipped with a DC 0~10 dimmer and compatible with other networked devices enabled by such smart home protocols as PWM, DALI, BLE and ZigBee.

BJB Electric Taiwan Corporation, an affiliate of Germany-based BJB GmbH & Co., KG, a supplier of lamp holders and LED modules, showcases its Linear Flat System at TILS 2017.

The LED system features fast , easy insta l lat ion and replacement of lighting fixtures and modules, thanks to its plug-and-play design, which allows users to remove and install modules with just a click.

The modules offer energy savings of up to 80 percent, with a maximum luminous efficacy of 157 lm/W and energy efficiency class of A++ or A+, making the interchangeable system lead in the industry.

Future-proof versatility is also among the system’s attractions to luminaire producers, lighting designers and end-users. The lighting system is designed with a standardized socket system, while the modules are available in various wattage levels, color temperatures, color rendering and light distribution patterns

Nan Ya Photonics Inc., the LED subsidiary of the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG), is exhibiting a wide range of LED-lighting equipment covering industrial, commercial and residential applications at this year’s TILS.

Founded in 2003 as an LED chipmaker, Nan Ya Photonics branched out into lighting manufacturing in 2010 in cooperation with Epistar Corp., one of world’s largest epitaxial wafer and LED chip maker. For now, this company has become a major supplier in the global market for LED lighting.

Among its industrial lamps are explosion-proof lights, flameproof flood lights, streetlights, and high-bay and low-bay lights. Its commercial lights include AR111, PAR, MR, recessed lamps, T8 light tubes, panel lights, and OA lighting, while its residential lamps consist mostly of LED light bulbs rated from 7W to 15W.

Last year, the firm released its LED smart ceiling light, which, built with smart current driver, Wi-Fi module USB and multimedia player, has proved a success in the market.

MechaTronix Kaohsiung Co., Ltd., a globally leading developer and maker of LED cooling modules, demonstrates at this year’s TILS a horticultural lighting fixture noted for the firm’s self-developed, next-generation LED cooling module, CoolFin®.

The lighting fixture is built with the CoolFin® 600W ultra-compact lightweight cooler developed using the firm’s advanced heat pipe technology and can tilt 270 up to degrees, allowing users to freely adjust beam angles according to different needs. The 11th Solid State Lighting (2017 tSSL) is going to take place between April 12 and 13 in Conference Room 504 (5F) in TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall 1 as a concomitant event during TILS and LED Taiwan 2017.

2017 tSSL to Throw Light on Emerging Lighting and Advanced Technologies

Epoch Chemtronics Corp., a specialized maker of backlight modules for small-to-medium-sized LCDs, is named a finalist for this year’s Innovation Product Award in Indoor Lighting Category with its LED Smart Footlight.

The footlight is designed to work as under-bed and cabinet sensor lighting as the first in Taiwan, and impresses the judging panel with its innovative, user-friendly functionality that meets requirements in night time care for the elderly and children at home.

Developed on human-centric concepts, the lighting fixture is optimally engineered to give off light in an ideal shape of 85 degrees and with appropriate brightness, and built with an adjustable sensor that can rotate 70 degrees for installation flexibility and effective motion detection. An integrated body coupled with a golden triangle exterior design also enhances added-value to the product.

The SHV series SMD surge protection device re leased by SF I E lectronics Technology Inc. , a professional manufacturer of protective components in circuits, is chosen as an entry of Lighting Component Category in the innovation product contest for its novel technological advantages.

Developed specifically for surge protection of LED lighting based on SFI’s patented CSPD technology, the device features high resistance to temperature and humidity, and significantly lowered clamping voltage, as well as high safety as it has been tested to withstand multi-surge sparks and approved by UL & cUL, not to mention the product meets IEC and other standards.

What truly sets the device apart from conventional models, which are generally enclosed in DIP package, is the use of SMD package, which helps effectively boost productivity and production efficiency.

The “FLAT ONE” smart aquarium lighting developed by Unity Opto Technology Co., Ltd., a listed company engaged in LEDs and LED lighting, is selected as an entry for the final round of the Innovation Product Award 2017 in Indoor Lighting Category.

FLAT ONE adopts planar LED lighting with a range of high-quality LED chips to cover a broad spectrum of the visible spectrum coupled with a color rendering index of over 93 ra., to produce comfortable light similar with natural sunlight, create an ideal environment for aquatic creatures and present the vividness of the ecosystem in the aquarium.

The lighting fixture has a contemporary minimal, sleek exterior design, with thickness of only 3mm, and highlights a well-integrated operational interface with interoperability between the hardware and software, namely ONF Remote APP self-developed by Unity Opto. With smart devices installed with the app, users can easily control the fixture, record data from the aquarium monitored and upload pictures to social media, to enhance their fish-keeping experience.

Proving effective in greatly enhancing production efficiency of power supplies for LED lighting, GaN Driver IC developed by Epistar Corp., world’s largest LED chip maker by market share, is added by the judging panel of to the Lighting Component Category finalist list.

Developed with Epistar’s profound knowledge and industry-leading technology, GaN driver IC works very well at high operating temperatures, hence allowing power supplies manufacturers to cut costs on heat dispersion, as well as filters and passive components used.

A novel design of GaN IC enables lower assembling cost, simplified circuit, volume reduction and stable operation. With the features mentioned above, the IC aims to boost market penetration of LEDs in lighting industry in the long run.

At this year’s TILS and LED Taiwan, a couple of themed pavilions are set up by different organizations, to offer visitors a real-world experience in newer lighting technologies and applications that are expected to enhance the quality of people’s lives in the near future.

Meanwhile, “Taiwan Modern LegEnD Pavilion” by Taiwan Intelligent LED Lighting Association, directed by Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA, and composed of local lighting fixture and LED companies, is showcasing a wide array of high value-added, niche products developed by association members, which cover LED modules, drivers, light engines and lighting fixtures.

The Taiwan-based Eiffel Lighting Co., Ltd., a lighting fixture maker, is nominated as a finalist for the Innovation Product Award 2017 in Indoor Lighting Category with its Pink Chandelier.

The chandelier features shades of lily-shaped, pink-tinted glass for breathtaking exterior and chromatic design and rather impressive visual appeals. Despite its complex profile, such glass shades have been set for mass production, mainly thanks to Eiffel Lighting’s efforts on learning glass craftsmanship from Italy to improve its exiting production techniques. Such advantage makes unit prices of the lighting fixture even friendlier than expected.

Besides, glass shades are made with advanced electric furnaces for lower carbon emission generated during production, and out of recyclable, reusable soda-lime glass to address growing concerns about sustainable use of resources. The product has tested to meet safety standards established in Taiwan.

The HLG-480H-C High Performance LED Driver developed by Mean Well Enterprises Co., Ltd., a leading maker of power supplies and LED drivers, is nominated as a finalist of Lighting Component Category this year.

The HLG-480H-C is the first 480W high-performance waterproof LED driver in the market, which can start up normally under extremely low temperatures down to minus 40 degrees Celsius to drive LED lamp smoothly.

With fan-less design and a wide working temperature ranging from minus 40 to plus 90 degrees Celsius, HLG-480H-C is very suitable for outdoor lighting, including LED street lights, LED harbor lights, bay Lights, fishing lights, explosion-proof lights, etc. The product also supports various dimming control functions, such adjustable constant current, 3 in 1 dimming and smart timer dimming.

Prodigital Technology Corp., a professional manufacturer of indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, is chosen as a finalist of Outdoor Lighting Category with its brand new outdoor floodlight.

With high luminous efficiency of 100lm/W and a wide angle of 105 degrees, the 34W floodlight can replace conventional 300W mercury lamps, allowing users to slash electricity bills by as high as 88 percent. An IP67-rated housing and elegant exterior design, coupled with various optional accessories, combine to make the fixture suitable for not just signage lighting but landscape lighting. The used light source is tested for a lifespan of some 50,000 hours.

Highl ighted with a patented “Wireless Chain Reaction” function, Brilliant 4S Chain Reaction LED Light is included in the entry list for the final round of this year’s Innovation Product Award in Outdoor Lighting Category.

With the abovementioned function, all the lighting fixtures networked wirelessly within in a range of up to 20 meters can turn on by themselves in reaction to any single one activated by motion detection, to collectively give off light bright enough and in all directions for enhanced safety of pedestrians and vehicles in operation.

Also featuring less maintenance, installation and configure work required than competing models, the product can serve as an ideal solution for the smart city development.
