PRESENTATION:

GUEST SPEAKER BAILEY WHITEFIELD Our guest speaker this morning was introduced by Bill Butuk. Bill introduced us to Bailey Whitefield from Miracle Ear, saying, “ this young lady, who is familiar with my ears” Bailey is a Hearing Instrument Specialist. She has a HBSc in Psychology from Lakehead and a Hearing Aid Practitioner diploma from MacEwan University. She has worked for Amplifon, formerly Miracle Ear for over 2 years. Bailey tells us that hearing loss can be: Conductive Loss- due to a blockage or build up of fluid/wax, sounds aren’t loud enough. Or Sensorineural Loss: sounds are muffled and dull, this is more permanent. The aging process contributes to hearing loss. Noise induced hearing loss occurs from industry and other loud noises. Hearing loss is a Silent Affliction. Until someone notices such as a family member or friend. Signs of hearing loss: Mumbling, difficulties with hearing on the telephone, tv’s are on too loudly and the avoidance of public/ social situations. Hearing loss affects your normal life in many ways such as depression, anxiety and frustration. There maybe risk to your personal safety and mis-information. Hearing loss can lead to dementia. Prevention can help, use hearing protection when around loud noise. Remember to protect young children’s ears.

Technology is improving for hearing aids. There are many discrete styles and a variety with more sound sensitivity. When wearing hearing aids it’s important to remember that you are retraining your brain to hear properly again and it does take time. It’s also important to know that there is funding available to assist in the purchase of your hearing aids through various agencies like W.S.I.B and a Veteran Affairs etc. Hearing aids can greatly improve your quality of life. Bill promotes everyone to get their hearing checked bases on his personal experience. After a brief question period, Paul thanked our guest. Announcements: Clifford informs us of an up coming event, KAIROS Blanket Exercise. Each member will receive this message.

Club Social: Curling Social Report: The Curling Event was a huge success! 10 Rotarians attended. Karl, his wife and Grandchildren sat and observed! To quote Bill , “ they were watching an exhibition of science and skills!” The teams curled 4 ends with Gail B’s team winning the bragging rights! A delicious Chinese dinner and fellowship was enjoyed by all! Many thanks to Bill Butuk for organizing this fun event!

Shrimp Fest: Shrimp Fest will be held on May 24, 2019 at the Valhalla Inn. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased from Clint. New flyers and tickets were printed to reflect the change in venue and menu. We already have 8 items donated for the silent auction. We have ONLY SOLD ONE TICKET! Please help me out! I don’t think I can eat all that shrimp! We are looking forward to seeing the Alan/LoriAnn team in action. They are always a class act! FELLOWSHIP FINES: Finemaster Gail B asked everyone for a loonie to welcome back Liisa Leskowski! A full house responded with a Welcome Back Liisa! A huge thank you to her chauffeur Allan! The Finemaster continued to collect coffers from her husband for their 22nd Anniversary! She collected a loonie per year! Good job! Happy Dollars: Clifford for his recent travels & for career opportunities being promoted for remote communities. Audrey for a happy day. Bill was very happy for Gail B’s curling teams win at the recent social. Sad Dollars: Volker was sad that the Jets lost. 50/50 Draw: Congratulations! Our winner of the 50/50 this morning was Paige! Paige graciously donated the winnings back to The Rotary Foundation. The clubs half goes to administration to cover some expenses. Thank you Paige!
