Psalms 37:5 states “Commit your ways to the

Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to

pass.” Proverbs 16:3 records “Commit your works

unto the Lord, and your thoughts shall be estab-

lished.” Are we failing to commit to the Lord? A fail-

ure is committing only on a superficial level, project-

ing the idea of working for the Lord yet doing it from

self interest. Another lack of commitment is demon-

strated as we give God temporary control of our

interest only to withdraw it when it becomes diffi-

cult or something else we think better comes along.

Sometimes we can commit to the Lord to the point

we put forth no effort and then wonder why it fails.

The answer is a delicate balance; trusting God as if

everything depends on Him while working as if eve-

rything depends on us. Commitment comes as we

see new and fresh ways to grow in our relationship

and strengthen our value as a follower of the Lord.

There is a difference in a contribution and total

commitment and often times is the difference in

failure or success. A chicken and hog walked past a

church sign asking for help in feeding the poor. A

short time later the chicken said, “Brother Hog, why

don’t we give all the poor a nice breakfast of eggs

plied, “That’s all right for you to say because for you

it is a contribution, but for me, it’s total commit-

ment!” Christians are watched as we use our words

to see if they are backed up by our actions. It

means that we display courage and continuously

put the betterment of others before us. When we

fall or fail we dust off and give it another try relying

on God’s promises. Those who use air travel did you

know as the aircraft straightens on the runway and

the pilot crams the throttles wide open there is a

point of total commitment? Because of the speed

and weight of the aircraft at a point, about two

thirds down the runway the pilot is committed to

the air. Christian commitment is measured by

action. Nothing is easier than saying words and

nothing is harder than living them day by day and

it is heart that separates the good from the great.

If we were to list how we spend our time and

money where does our true commitment lie? If

we think of our words and actions would we be

surprised how they may not measure up to what

we say we believe? The question is asked, “Is

there anything more beautiful in life than a boy

and girl holding hands with pure hearts in the

path of marriage?” The answer is “Yes, it is the

spectacle of an old man and woman finishing

their journey. Their hands are gnarled but still

clasped, their faces weathered and wrinkled and

yet still radiant, their hearts are tired but strong.”

Stott- Wallace Missionary Offering

Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2017

Did you know there are CP churches in 13 countries and by the end of 2017 that number will

grow? On the Day of Pentecost people of different languages came together to worship God

leading to the birth of the Church. The Church was then tasked to send missionaries into the

world to proclaim the Kingdom of God. Those missionaries had to eat, find housing, and buy

clothes. These first missionaries learned to live off the leftovers (Phil. 4:15, 2 Cor. 11:9) as did

the Old Testament heroine Ruth.

On December 29, 2016 the new missionaries, Rev. Jacob and Lindsey Sims and their three

children flew to Brazil as new CP missionaries. In mid-2017 the goal is that Rev. Patrick and

Jessica Wilkerson and their two small children will move to Colombia, SA as new missionaries.

We as a Church continue what Pentecost started. We send missionaries into the world be-

cause God so loves the world. Commissioning new missionaries is both exciting and challeng-

ing. It is exciting with the prospect of growing the Kingdom of God in new lands and challeng-

ing as we face the reality of living off the leftovers. The world needs missionaries willing to

sacrifice the know world, family proximity, and security for something vitally important. As Paul

writes in Romans 10, “how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And

how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

In 2017 it will take almost $400,000 a year to cover missionary expenses, salaries and bene-

fits to support all of our CP missionaries. Missions is a part of the Church that lives off church

offerings; it is the widow that goes into the wheat field after it has been harvested gleaning the

leftovers. If only 200 persons, church or groups (Sunday School classes) gave $2,000 a year

that would be enough for our current missionary staff.

—Lynn Thomas, Director of Global Missions, Missions Ministry Team

Here at Clarksville CP the Stott-Wallace Missionary Offering will be received on Pentecost Sun-

day, June 4, 2017. Please be in prayer concerning the gift that you will give. In the past

Clarksville CP has been very generous in its support. Let us

continue to serve and support world missions and the spread of the gospel message.

Envelopes will be available for your offering beginning May 1st in the Narthex.
