Breakfast on the Beach • John 21:1-14 Memory Verse: “I am alive for ever and ever!” Revelation 1:18, NIV Key Question: Who is alive? Bottom Line: Jesus is alive. Basic Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Introductory Sketch What You Need: The four painted flowerpots from previous weeks, colorful flowers planted in each pot, a small table for them to sit on, and small portable wall (like a large piece of plywood) What You Do: Before the Activity: Pre-set the table in the center of the storytelling area. Place the four flowerpots with flowers in them on the table with a small portable wall in front them so the children and Host cannot see them. (Host enters excitedly talking to himself/herself and stops in front of the wall that’s blocking the table.) What You Say: HOST: “Ohhhhh, I hope they’ve bloomed. I hope they’ve bloomed. “Hi, friends! I’m [your name]. My friends and I planted seeds in our flowerpots, and we have been waiting and waiting and waiting for them to bloom. I think today is the day! But I’m kind of afraid to look and see. “All I need to do is move this wall, and we can see if the flowers have bloomed. (Begin to move the wall and then stop to talk to the children. The repeated stopping before showing the flowers below is meant to tease the children a bit.) “What if there are so many flowers they take over all of our storytelling area and I can’t even walk through them? That would be too many flowers! There’s only one way to find out!

April 19, 2020 Bible Story Focus: Jesus is alive, and He wants to be our friend forever.

(Begin to move the wall and then stop to talk to the children again.) “What if the flowers have grown so big and tall that they touch the ceiling? (Look up to the ceiling.) “That would be way too tall for a flower. (Look back at the children.) “Okay, here I go. It’s time to look. (Grab the wall and get ready to move it.) “Do you want to look with me? (Pause.) Great! Cover your eyes with your hands like this (demonstrate) and count to three with me. Go ahead. Cover your eyes. We’re about to look! Now let’s count to three together.” CHILDREN and HOST: “One, two, three!” (Pull the wall away and set it aside.) HOST: “Wow! Oh, wow! LOOK! (Walk behind the table and examine all four flowerpots and the beautiful flowers.) “THEY BLOOMED! And they’re perfect. Not too many and not too tall. They’re just right. (Pick up a pot and smell the flowers.) “These are absolutely perfect! Do you want to know why these flowers are perfect? I want to give some flowers to my grandma when I meet her for breakfast. She has a spot on her windowsill that will be just right for these flowers. That’s why they’re perfect. (Move the table to the side and then pick up one of the flowerpots and hold it up for the children to see.) “I’m going to give my grandma this one when we have breakfast. She loves [color of flower]. Thanks for being here today! I’ll be back later. Bye, friends!” (Host exits with the one flowerpot as Storyteller enters.)
