Applying for University
• Not urgent open 1st August shut 10th December
• HOWEVER some programmes have different closing dates i.e. B of PE from Otago – 1st Dec or Bachelor of Teaching from Vic – 10th January
• Best to use resources offered by Universities i.e. student liaison visits to school, course planning advice available on line or their website
• Do not just apply to ONE university – keep your options open
Guaranteed Entry Scores
These give you guaranteed places on courses, but are change for particular courses so you have to check for the university and course you want to do. You can still get a place if you don’t achieve the guaranteed entry score, but you have to go on a list and wait for an individual decision.
Victoria University - the GES is currently 150 points for all undergraduate degrees, except the Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Bachelor of Building Science which require a Guaranteed Entry Score of 180.
How to calculate your NCEA score:
Your score will be based on your 80 best credits in University Entrance approved subjects at Level 3 or higher, and weighted by the level of achievement.
All Level 3 or higher approved subjects can be counted.
A maximum of 24 credits in each subject may be counted.

Applying for Halls
• Open 1st August shut 1st October HOWEVER CCRF due 15th September
Either
• See PK with 3 teachers who you wish to contribute to your references (2 must be current) and which Halls you are applying for
• OR access the form www.ccrf.ac.nz/students for you to enter information but you will still need to tell PK 3 teachers
• PK to send out form to those teachers and collate results and send to Universities
• Would be polite to give 3 teachers heads up
Advice for when applying to the Halls
Try to avoid selecting the popular halls:
o Victoria Uni – Te Puni, Joan Stevens and Weir House
o Otago Uni – Arana, Cumberland
• Proof read your essay
• No bullet points – use full sentences
• Spelling mistakes and silly email addresses will put your application at the bottom of the pile
University ScholarshipsThere are a variety of scholarships available from the Universities:
• Academic Excellence
• Maori or Pasifika
• Financial Hardship
• Disability
• Leadership
• Sporting Excellence
• Ranging from $3000-5000 for the first year
• Top Scholars can be awarded full tuition for the duration of your study

Make sure you understand details of what is required i.e. authenticated results, official NZQA results
Make sure your personal statement specifically targets the scholarship you are applying for
Give TK/PK/RM plenty of time to write reference & give them the name of the scholarship you are applying for.
