The secret to being an incredible teacher? Practice. Feedback. Implement. Repeat.

You can be your own best source of feedback when it comes to teaching. To do so,

first create a neutral, safe space of non-judgment and observation. Then, assess your

teaching from a recent teaching assignment, class, live event, or webinar using this form.

Whenever possible, do your self evaluation while watching a recording of yourself teach.

Teaching assignment, class, live event, webinar, or other:

Date:

Teaching topic:

Target audience:

Clear, professional sound (vs. popping, cutting out, echoing, quiet, poor quality)

Hidden mic cord (vs. being visible)

Strong, reliable internet (vs. freezing, inconsistent, low bandwidth, cutting out)

Consistent, clear video quality (vs. refocusing, blurry)

C O M P U T E R

Use a computer with an appropriate processor and RAM for Zoom calls. Check out

Zoom’s recommendations. For example, a MacBook Pro is generally more robust than

a MacBook Air.

H A R D W I R E D I N T E R N E T C O N N E C T I O N

Use an Ethernet cable connection rather than Wi-Fi to ensure solid connectivity.

You can purchase an Ethernet cable from Amazon. If you’re on a Mac, Apple has a

USB to Ethernet adapter available.

Z O O M P R O A C C O U N T

We recommend investing in a Zoom Pro account so you can host unlimited group

meetings with up to 100 people and can collaborate as long as you need, without

worrying about time limits or having to start another meeting.

M I C T H A T I S C L E A R A N D P R O F E S S I O N A L

We recommend a Samson XPD2 Headset USB Digital Wireless System

(SWXPD2BDE5). Remember to regularly change the batteries. Practice with a peer to

make sure the gain is high enough so that you are heard clearly.

W E B C A M

We recommend using the Logitech C922 Pro Stream Webcam 1080P Camera for HD

video streaming and recording 720P at 60Fps with tripod included. Note that you may

need to turn off autofocus using the Logitech app.

W H I T E B O A R D

We recommend that our Instructors use the VIZ-PRO Dolphin Mobile Easel. Make sure

to use newer black markers on easel paper for the best legibility.

Do not be outside or in a bedroom, and do not have distracting clutter behind you.

We recommend taking it to the next level and making an appealing background

with fresh flowers, a plant, or art.

L I G H T I N G

Make sure there’s adequate and consistent lighting on your face. Natural light is

perfect, but you can use a ring light if necessary. If the right light is too intense, you

may need to consider a diffuser.

D R E S S P R O F E S S I O N A L LY

Pay attention to your appearance starting now, ensuring professionalism and

considering the level of class and conservative nature that may be appropriate.

Notice how you appear on a Zoom call from the chest up looks different than your

entire outfit in the mirror in the morning.

Q U I E T E N V I R O N M E N T

Choose a place without distractions (kids or other people) for yourself and for those

you’re meeting with on Zoom. If you’re unable to do this, please do not teach the class

and/or do not attend on live video. If you have to attend via phone, please make sure

to mute your audio when appropriate. We highly recommend you simply watch the

recording instead if you’re on-the-go.

Start and end on time.

W A I T I N G R O O M

Use Zoom’s waiting room feature if you have back-to-back sessions (see below for

how to enable).

Turn off all notifications and pings that could make a sound during the call on all

devices, and utilize “Do Not Disturb” settings.

C L E A R I N T E R F E R E N C E

Cell phones and wearable tech sometimes interfere with USB mics, so it’s best to

not wear tech and to move such items away from your desk.

Tech is away from USB mic

Attach webcam and mic

Turn on mic

Check that mic cord is hidden from view

Launch Zoom application from your computer

Check in “System Preferences” that your mic is selected

for input audio or test in Zoom

Ensure webcam is on and will be default camera

Adjust lighting and background

Ask if you can be seen and heard when live

1. Sign into Zoom via your browser (the web portal)

2. Select “My Meeting” Settings

3. Scroll down to “In Meeting (Advanced)”

4. Enable “Waiting Room”

Please remember to represent The Life Coach School, its employees, and Certified Coaches

and their businesses in a positive and professional manner whenever speaking to others.
