ProceduresforEnteringStudentsRegistrationTheOSUScheduleofClassesisavailableonlineandcontainsacademicregulationsandregistrationproceduresthatapplytoallstudentsintheuniversity,aswellasthefinalexaminationweekschedule.Theonlinecatalogisthesourceforup-to-datechangesforthecurrentandimmediatelyupcomingterm.Itisyourresponsibilitytoregisterfortheappropriatenumberofcreditsthatmayberequiredforanyfundingeligibilityand/ortomeettherequirementsofthecontinuousenrollmentpolicy.Problemsarisingfromregistrationprocedures,suchaslateregistration,addingorwithdrawingfromcoursesafterdeadlines,orlatechangesfromletterorS/UgradingareresolvedthroughthepetitionforlatechangeinregistrationfiledwiththeGraduateSchool.Alateregistrationfeemaybeapplied.MinimumCourseLoadsTheRegistrarandtheGraduateSchoolestablishcourseloadrequirementsforgraduatestudents.Youareconsidereda“full-time”graduatestudentifyouareregisteredforatleast9creditsduringsummertermor12creditspertermduringtheacademicyear.Youareconsidereda“part-time”graduatestudentifyouareregisteredforlessthanthesecutoffs.Ifyouareadegree-seekingstudent,youmustberegisteredforaminimumofthreegraduatecreditsinanytermyouwishtobeenrolledandaccessuniversityresources,includingthetermofthefinaldefense.

StudentsareresponsibleforstayingcurrentoncourseloadrequirementsthatmaysupersedetheGraduateSchoolrequirements(i.e.,international,financialaid,veteran’s)StudentIdentificationCardYoumustregisterforatleastthreecreditsbeforeobtaininganIDcard(feelfreetoaskanexperiencedgraduatestudentforassistance).ToobtainastudentIDcard,youmustshowevidenceofofficialadmissiontoOSUandproperidentification(driver’slicense,passport,ormilitarycard)totheIDCenter(MemorialUnion,Room103)M-Ffrom8:30to4:30.GraduatestudentsmayobtaintheirIDcardoneweekbeforeandthroughouttheirfirsttermofregistration.Forfallterm,incominggraduatestudentsmayobtaintheirIDcardanytimethroughoutthesummeraswell.YourOSUIDCardprovidesaccesstothefollowingservices.Differentfeesmayapplybasedonstudent,employeeorothercardstatus.http://fa.oregonstate.edu/business-affairs/idcenter

EmploymentandFinancialSupportSourcesofFundsGraduateassistantsarepaidbydepartmentalfundsorbyfacultyresearchgrants.Dutiesofstudentssupportedbydepartmentalfundswillincludeacombinationofresearchandteachingassistancetofaculty.Dutiesofstudentssupportedbygrantfundsnormallyareinsupportofthegrant’sobjectivesanddeliverablesandmayalsobepartofthestudent’sdissertationresearch.GraduateAssistantsGraduateassistantsareemployeesoftheUniversityaccordingtothetermsofthecontractbetweentheUniversityandtheCoalitionofGraduateEmployees.Graduateassistantsfulfillthefollowingworkhoursperweekasassignedbytheirgraduateadvisors:

TheAppliedEconomicsDepartmentoffersthefollowing(internal)fellowshipsandscholarships:D.BartonDeLoachFellowship,D.BartonDeLoachScholarship,EmeryCastleScholarships,RobertJohnsonFellowship,SusanneSzentandrasiFellowship,andJDRowellFellowship.TheGraduateCommitteeandindividualfacultynominatestudentsfortheseawardsonayearlybasis.Studentsreceivingfellowshipsarenotemployedasgraduateassistants;studentsreceivingscholarshipsmayalsobeemployedasgraduateassistants.ResearchTravelSupportSupportfortraveltopresentpapersatconferencesmaybeavailablefromtheAECDepartment.Studentsmayrequestupto$1,000foroneconferenceeachcalendaryear.RequestsshouldbedirectedtotheGraduateProgramDirectorandwillbeconsideredbytheGraduateCommittee.HourlyEmployeesGraduatestudentsmustgetpermissionfromtheirmajorprofessorsbeforeacceptinghourlystudentworkintheDepartment.TotalgrossearningsfromanyStateofOregonpayrollsourceforstudentsongraduateassistantappointmentscannotexceedtheequivalentofa0.49FTEappointment.StudentsnotonagraduateappointmentwhoareU.S.citizensorresidentalienscanworkasstudentworkersforamaximumof20hoursperweekwhileclassesareinsession.Eligiblestudentemployees,notonagraduateappointment,mayworkfulltime(40hoursperweek)ormoreduringtermbreaksandmustbepaidovertime(1.5xhourlyrate)forallhoursover40inoneweek.Internationalstudentscannotworkmorethan40hoursperweekduringtermbreaks.EnrollmentStudentsonagraduateassistantshipmustregisterforaminimumof12creditsforfall,winterandspringterms.Ifthegraduateassistantispaidbyagrantandextendsthroughsummer,enrollmentmustbeforatleastninecredits.ContinuousEnrollmentPolicyAllgraduatestudentsenrolledinadegreeprogrammustregistercontinuouslyforaminimumofthreegraduatecreditseachterm(fall,winter,andspringterms)untilalldegreerequirementsaremet,regardlessofthestudent’slocation.Studentsonapprovedleaveareexemptfromthecontinuousenrollmentpolicyfortheterm(s)theyareonleave.Graduatestudentswhousefacilitiesorfaculty/stafftimeduringsummersessionarerequiredtoregisterforaminimumofthreecreditsduringthesummersession.Studentsdefendinginthesummertermarerequiredtoregisterforaminimumofthreegraduatecredits.StudentsmayappealtheprovisionsofthecontinuousgraduateenrollmentpolicyifextraordinarycircumstancesarisebysubmittingadetailedrequestinwritingtotheDeanoftheGraduateSchool.Schedulingdifficultiesrelatedtothepreliminaryoralexamorthefinaloralexamarenotconsideredanextraordinarycircumstance.

containedinthiscontinuousenrollmentpolicy.Variousagenciesandofficesmaintaintheirownregistrationrequirementsthatalsomayexceedthosespecifiedbythiscontinuousenrollmentpolicy(e.g.,thoseoftheVeteransAdministration,ImmigrationandNaturalizationServiceforinternationalstudents,andthoserequiredforfederalfinancialaidprograms.)Therefore,itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytoregisterfortheappropriatenumberofcreditsthatmayberequiredforfundingeligibilityand/orcomplianceasoutlinedbyspecificagencyregulationsunderwhichtheyaregoverned.

committee,accommodationsmaybemadeonacase-by-casebasistoallowthestudenttomeetthissatisfactoryprogresscriterion.WhenastudentearnsagradelowerthanCinacoursethatisnotacoreorfieldcourse,thatcoursecannotcounttowardsthestudent'sdegree.Thestudentmustretakethecourseortakeadifferentcoursewithagreementoftheircommittee.Inallofthesecases,thestudentremainseligibletoreceiveagraduateassistantshipaslongastheircumulativeGPAremainsat3.0orabove.StudentswhohaveacumulativeGPAbelow3.0attheendofagivenquarterwillbeplacedonacademicprobationforthefollowingquarter.AstudentwhodoesnotraisetheirGPAabove3.0bytheendofthatquarterwillremainonprobationandwillnotbeeligibletoreceiveagraduateassistantship,fellowshiporscholarship.Studentswhodonotmeetthedeadlineslaidoutinthesatisfactoryprogresstimelinewillbeplacedonacademicprobationforthefollowingquarter.Studentswhodonotmeetthedeadlinebytheendofthatquarterwillremainonprobationandwillnotbeeligibletobeappointedasagraduateassistant,ortoreceiveafellowshiporscholarship.StudentsmayappealafindingofunsatisfactoryprogressandacademicprobationtotheGraduateCommittee.Astudent'sappealshouldincludealetterfromthestudentdescribingthemitigatingcircumstancesandaletterofsupportfromthestudent'smajorprofessor.AccommodationsParenthood:Studentswhobecomeparentsthroughthebirthoradoptionofachildwillbegrantedanautomatictwo-quarterextensionofsatisfactoryprogressrequirements.FieldWork:Studentswhoanticipateconductingfieldworkfortheirdissertationsfor6monthsormorecanrequestanextensionofuptooneyearformeetingrequirements.RequestsshouldbedirectedtotheGraduateCommittee.OtherUnforeseenEvents:StudentswhoneedanextensionduetoothercircumstancesoutsideoftheircontrolcanrequesttheextensiontotheGraduateCommittee.
