Application SpotlightLaser Projection for Positioning & Alignment

In this application three line projection lasers are used to ensure proper position and alignment of the interior carpet and backing before the staple gun will function. When the gun is moved along the edge, the positon of the stapler is reported by a Balluff linear transducer and staples are automatically applied in the proper locations. Through the use of the line laser, the interior is assembled properly and the entire process is error-proofed.

When working in manual processes, repeatability becomes an important requirement. Ensuring proper positioning and alignment of worked components drives higher quality and makes for easier assembly of the finished good. However there isn’t always a good way to fixture with mechanical guides on the product without damaging it, or getting in the way of the assembly process. There could be a need to replace a square, level or ruler in a process. By using a precision laser projection, many of these issues can be avoided. A cross mark can be used to indicate the exact position for a hole, tap, staple, rivet or nail. A line mark can be used to position, or align multiple components properly or even be used to mark an edge for a cut or adhesive.
