AESTHETICSQUARTZ

Joints in Quartz worksurfaces are finished with a small ariss to the topedge, silicone sealant is then applied to prevent liquid penetrationof the joint.

Apollo® Quartz / Zodiaq® is also scratch-resistant, but not scratch-proof. Therefore, the use of a cutting board is recommended whenusing a knife.

Sometimes spills occur and dry on the worktop. For materials thatharden as they dry (such as gum, food, grease, nail polish or paint),remove by gently scraping away the excess with a plastic putty knife.

Permanent markers and inks may adhere to the surface and shouldbe avoided. Should these agents come into contact with thesurface, clean first as outlined in Care & Maintenance booklet.

If the stain persists, moisten a cloth with Stone Detergent and rub itinto the stain. Let the cleaning agent sit for 15 minutes and wipe thesurface clean with the cloth provided. Rinse thoroughly to removeany cleaner residue.

Size of slab, is a major factor in selecting the maximum usable lengthof a work surface. Approximately 3m x 1.3m is the largest worksurface we are able to manufacture, this may be reduced if yourequire a cutout.

Avoid exposing Apollo® Quartz / Zodiaq ® s u rfaces to stro n gchemicals and solvents, especially paint removers or furn i t u restrippers containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride.

Keep nail polish remover, bleach, bluing, permanent markers or inks, and oil soaps away from Apollo® Quartz / Zodiaq®.

While casual exposure to alkaline materials will not damage it, highlyalkaline (high-pH) cleansers are not recommended when cleaningApollo® Quartz / Zodiaq®.

If any of the substances listed above come into contact with Apollo®

Quartz / Zodiaq®, rinse the exposed surface immediately andthoroughly with water.

WEIGHT/AREA RATIO

Maximum Length with cut out

The table also shows our

recommendations for the

maximum length when a cut out is

to be included in a granite

worksurface.

Unpolished Sink/Hob cut out

• Barred* Front & Back

• L a rge cut outs need to be

scored and cored on occasions.

• This leaves the corners of the

cutout in place, ready for

removal on-site by the installer.

Polished Sink cut out

• Barred* must be 90mm min from

front to back.

• U n b a r red - 300mm below

maximum re c o m m e n d e d

length. Still 90mm from front to

back.

* The term used to describe the

fitting of steel support bars to give

additional support to cutouts.

Without steel supports bars, the

length of a cut out is reduced

considerably.

Handling worktops is always at least a two man job, forexample a 30mm granite top 2.6m long x .6m = 145kg or 23stone!!

Granite is a very hard but brittle surface and great care mustalways be taken when handling or installing it.

Additional labour may be required for installations where theweight of a worktop is over 150kg, each further 75kg willrequire an additional man to assist with handling. The table above gives a breakdown of the weight per metre foreach colour.

The following table lists some of the commercially available cleaning products suitable for

the routine care and maintenance of Zodiaq® quartz surfaces. Other alternatives can be used

as long as the basic cleaner characteristics are the same.

Do not use abrasive and/or alkaline

cleaning products. A limited, short exposure

to alkaline product(s) should not damage

your Zodiaq® quartz surfaces though.

Do not use 3M ScotchBrite® scrub pads or

similar as continued use may eventually dull

the surface shine of your quartz surface.

Always try the cleaner first on a hidden place

of the quartz surface and follow the cleaner

manufacturer’s use instructions.

Cleaning product should be kept out of reach

of children and pets!

Do exercise proper care when handling and

storing cleaning products.

Z O D I A Q ®

DuPont™ Zodiaq® is the naturally beautiful,

durable and hygienic quartz surface material

used for kitchen tops, bath and shower

surrounds, vanity tops, furniture and many

other interior decoration applications.

These guidelines will answer your questions

on how to use and care for DuPont™ Zodiaq®

quartz surfaces.

Like all fine materials, Zodiaq® responds best

when handled with due care and attention.

Congratulations if you have just installed ZODIAQ® Quartz Surfaces

We want you to enjoy the natural beauty and special aesthetics of Zodiaq® for years to come

Getting acquaintedwith Zodiaq®

DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz surfaces are easy

to maintain. The natural quartz crystals used

in Zodiaq® in combination with stain-resistant

polymers, result in a smooth, non-porous,

high gloss surface.

Because of its almost exclusive quartz crystal

content the surface aesthetics of Zodiaq®

may slightly vary in colour uniformity as

with any natural stone product.

Common household spills – such as wine,

vinegar, tea, coffee, lemon juice, soda, fruit

or vegetable juice spills – are easily removed

and the surface restored to its original highly

polished appearance.

Quartz is one of the hardest materials

in nature, which is your assurance that

your Zodiaq® surface will not easily scratch

or chip. The use of a cutting board is

nevertheless recommended.

Zodiaq® will withstand limited exposure

to normal cooking temperatures from pots,

pans and dishes. To maintain the natural

beauty of Zodiaq®, do not place hot skillets

or roasting pans directly onto the surface

but use a hot pad instead.

Zodiaq® quartz surfaces are generally

resistant to most common household

chemicals. Should you accidentally spill

a household chemical on your Zodiaq® surface

it is good practice to blot it up immediately

and rinse it with plenty of clean water.

Routine cleaning of Zodiaq® Quartz Surfaces

Even though Zodiaq® resists permanent

staining when exposed to common household

liquids (such as wine, vinegar, tea, coffee,

lemon juice and soda) or fruits and vegetables,

it is recommended to wipe up food and liquid

spills as soon as possible. Remember, it is

always easier to wipe up a spill than to have

to deal with a dried-in stain.

For daily cleaning of your Zodiaq® quartz

surfaces use a damp white cloth and,

if necessary, a small amount of non-bleach,

non-abrasive liquid household cleanser

or a household vinegar/water solution

(always follow the manufacturers dilution

instructions).

For stubborn spills, use a household vinegar

cleaner together with a non-abrasive

cleaning pad. Rinse thoroughly to remove

any residue and dry with a white paper

towel or a white cloth. Repeat if necessary.

Removal of dried-in spills

Sometimes spills occur and dry-in on the

worktop. For materials that harden

as they dry, such as gum, food containing

natural dyes (mustard, curry, etc.), grease,

nail polish, paint, etc., remove by gently

scraping away the residue material with

a blunt plastic scraper.

Then clean the quartz surface with

a household vinegar/water solution

(always follow the manufacturers dilution

instructions) or with a non-abrasive cleaning

pad together with a non-bleach, non-abrasive

liquid household cleanser and rinse

thoroughly with clean water.

Dry the surface with a clean white paper

towel or white cloth. Repeat if necessary

with a household vinegar cleaner.

Permanent markers/ink and some chemicals,

solvents or dyes may cause permanent

discoloration to the surface and should be

avoided. Should these agents come into

contact with the surface, wipe up immediately

and rinse with plenty of water. Then clean

with a household vinegar cleaner.

If stain persists, please contact the supplier

and/or installer of your DuPont™ Zodiaq®

quartz surfaces for further assistance.

Avoid chemicals, solventsand dyes

Aggressive chemicals, solvents or dyes,

especially paint removers, car battery liquid

or furniture strippers may cause permanent

damage to your Zodiaq® surface. Also keep

bleach containing products, permanent

markers, printing inks away from your

DuPont™ quartz surface.

If Zodiaq® is accidentally exposed to any

chemicals, solvents or dyes, blot up material

immediately and rinse the surface thoroughly

with plenty of clean water. Repeat if necessary.

Dry surface with a clean white paper towel

or a white cloth.

If more permanent damage occurs, please

contact your supplier and/or installer of

your DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz surfaces

for further assistance.

Polishing Zodiaq®

Quartz Surfaces

Because tough DuPont™ Zodiaq® is

non-porous there is generally no need

for extra and time-consuming polishing.

Your decorative quartz material will keep

its lustrous gloss and ultra-smooth surface

for years to come.

Enjoy the beauty of Zodiaq® Quartz Surfaces

Most of the above care guidelines, you

probably already follow instinctively.

But we hope these reminders will be useful

to you. We would like you to enjoy

the beauty of Zodiaq® quartz surfaces in

your home, for a long time to come.
