What is a “District”?

• A defined geographic area

• APICS has more than 200 local chapters in North America, which are divided into 9 geographic Districts.

• Established to provide structure for Chapter management training

• Each District elects a District Manager through a special nomination committee made up of chapter leaders within the District.

• Great Lakes District created at Conference 2006• Merger of Region 13 and Region 14

• First Year of operation 2008

• Now on 3rd District Manager

• Strategic Planning never performed in District – until 2015

• Volunteer Leadership Team met on January 31

And two-way communication between APICS corporate and the local chapter.

Issues Facing Great Lakes District

Current funding is insufficient to support programs

GLD wishes to expand ways to support chapters in district

Ideas for Reducing Costs

No APICS Conference GLD party

Reduce expenses for staff (travel and room) per event per person

Reduced gift bag costs (swag)

Negotiate cost efficient contracts given location requirements


Ideas for Increasing Revenue

Request monetary support of Student Case Competition from companies participating in Student Job fair. Estimated revenue $2,500.

Request support of chapters for GLD meetings once per year. For example, donation of a dollar per member for each chapter for one district meeting per year.

Chapter Recognition• The Goal of Chapter Recognition:

• To formally recognize chapter successes and innovative ideas

• To facilitate the sharing of ideas among chapters, thus encouraging and supporting the activity of all APICS Great Lakes District chapters

We are currently looking into ways to increase our recognition of Chapter accomplishments.



Fun at Meetings / Themes• The purpose of District Meetings is to:

• Provide updates on APICS topics• Provide Training to Chapter Leaders• Provide a forum for sharing ideas

• We need to add a FUN element to our meetings

We are currently looking into ways to add fun activities or events to out meetings.
