The Cameron Division of Cooper Cameron Corporation supports the

development and use of international product standards such as those

published by API and ISO. These standards provide a common basis for

product characteristics and performance attributes and act to capture

the successful industry history associated with these products. Products

marketed, designed, manufactured and used in compliance with

recognized industry standards add significant value to our industry.

Cameron endorses the API monogram program and API Quality Program

Specification Q1. API Q1 applies the recognized benefits of the ISO 9001

Quality Program elements tailored specifically to the oil and gas industry.

The API monogram program joins the assessment of Quality programs

with the demonstrated ability to comply with international product

standards such as API Specification 6A (ISO 10423) for Wellhead and

    Christmas Tree Equipment.

  • Specification for Wellhead andChristmas Tree Equipment

  • API SPECIFICATION 6A

API Specification 6A (ISO 10423) is the recognized industry standard for

Wellhead and Christmas Tree Equipment which was formulated to

provide for the availability of safe, dimensionally and functionally

interchangeable Wellhead and Christmas Tree Equipment. This

specification includes detailed requirements for the manufacture of

tubular suspension equipment, valves and fittings used at the location

of oil and gas wells to contain and control pressure and fluid flows.

Specification 6A also serves as the reference source for the design of

flanged end and outlet connections for use at 2,000 to 20,000 psi

maximum rated working pressures and a family of gate valves for use

over these same pressure ranges. API Specification 6A is also specified

    as the base standard for

    manufacture of subsea

    equipment in accordance with

    API Specification 17D.

The current edition of API 6A,

    includes requirements for

    Surface Safety Valves (SSV)

    and Underwater Safety Valves

    (USV).

    PRODUCT SPECIFICATION LEVELS (PSLs)

API Specification 6A (ISO 10423) provides definition of standard service

conditions and introduces the concept of product specification levels

(PSLs) which will be referred to throughout the document. The PSLs

define different levels of effort, or levels of technical requirements

which may be specified for a product. Generally, these levels represent

industry practice for various service conditions. The decision tree shown

below is designed to assist the purchaser in selecting the proper

specification levels (PSLs) for primary parts of Wellhead and Christmas

    Tree Equipment.

ANNEX F TESTINGPerformance verification testing is often performed on prototypes orproduction models of API Specification 6A (ISO 10423) equipment toensure that the performance requirements (PRs) specified for pressure, temperature, load, mechanical cycles, and standard test fluids are met in the design of the product.

Performance Verification Testing may include:Pressure/Temperature CyclesLoad/Mechanical CyclesNonmetallic Seal Thermochemical Testing

Scalable Performance Verification levels (i.e. PR1, PR2) are applicable tomany API 6A products. Although Annex F Testing is not a requirement inAPI 6A, Cameron is proud to offer a wide variety of products proven tomeet, and often exceed the performance verification requirements of API 6A Annex F.

    WELDING

Quality control requirements for welding generally increase as the PSLlevel increases from 1 through 3 with each level building on the levelbelow it. No welding is permitted on PSL-4 equipment except for corrosion resistant alloy overlays. API SPECIFICATION Q1

OVERVIEWAPI Q1 is intended to be used in conjunction with international oil and gasproduct standards by internationally licensed manufacturers. Used in thismanner, API Q1 delivers significant value to the industry by providing acohesive link between the accreditation of a manufacturers quality systemwith their ability to provide products meeting industry and customerrequirements.

API Specification Q1 differs from generic quality systems, (e.g., ISO 9000Series), by its role in the voluntary licensing of manufacturers to provide oiland gas industry products in accordance with API specifications. API licensesare only issued after an on-site survey has confirmed that the licensee adheresto the requirements of both the quality system standard API Q1 and therequirements of an international oil and gas product specification recognizedby the oil and gas industry and API. In contrast, generic quality systemrequirements are normally intended to be applied to any industry or productthrough contractual agreements with or without industry standards orspecifications.
