Mission StatementThe Australian Performing Arts Network Academy delivers training to enthuse and inspire every student we train. We strive to provide students with a comprehensive artistic education that includes technical training in a wide variety of performing arts styles and a solid theoretical and practical foundation for performance. Study tyPe: A part-time course comprising of 7 units over a period of 38 weeks.

CourSe timetAble: this is held on a Friday during school term from 9am to 4pm.

Certificate II in Performing Arts (52620WA) is a part-time course that runs on a school term basis over a period of thirty-eight weeks. The units are bundled to provide the student with overview knowledge of performing arts to prepare them for future training and educational and career pathways.

Certificate ii in dance (Cua20113)

Study tyPe: A part-time course comprising of 10 units over a period of 38 weeks.

CourSe timetAble: this is held on a Friday during school term from 9am to 4pm.

Certificate II in Dance (insert code) is a part-time course that runs on a school term basis over a period of thirty-eight weeks. The units are bundled to provide the student with overview knowledge of dance specifically classical, street dance, jazz and contemporary. This course prepares them for future training and educational and career pathways.

Students take note that The Curriculum Council of Western Australia has stated “Any nationally recognised VET qualifications and/or units of competency from training packages attained by senior students in years 10, 11 or 12 can contribute towards the achievement of a West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).” This course consists of practical training in genres of dance, acting and musical theatre from a diverse and dedicated performing arts team. The course provides several on the job performance opportunities in a show case style and other appearances.

Study tyPe: A full-time course comprising of 20 units over a period of 38 weeks.

Certificate IV in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre or Commercial Dance) is a full-time course that runs on a school term basis over a period of thirty-eight weeks. The units are bundled to provide the student with an all-round knowledge of performing arts with a speciality in their chosen major. This course includes a strong, all round training with a variety of local and interstate trainers, including group and private tutoring. Students will have the opportunity to train in current commercial trends and experience a wide field of performance and practical opportunities. The Certificate IV runs in three school terms of training with every term having an intensive period of interstate trainers and assessments. The last term is dedicated to a professional showcase of the student’s work attracting agents and training institutions from all around Australia. APAN is the currently the only Commercial Dance course Certificate IV in Western Australia and strives to be the states most diverse training facility in current dance trends and focus.

Dance Majors will have a strong all round focus paying particular attention to all styles of dancing including jazz, hip hop, commercial, street, tap, acrobatics, classical, lyrical, contemporary and alternative styles. They will be trained in areas of acting, voice and musical theatre to increase vocational pathways for the future.

Musical Theatre Majors will have a strong all round focus paying particular attention to acting, voice and musical theatre performance. They will be trained in several areas of dance to increase vocational pathways for the future.

On successful completion of the course, all graduating students will leave with the following:

• A Nationally Recognised Qualification

• An academic statement

• A DVD of showcase performance

• Performance pieces including choreographed work (particular to major)

• Performance pieces including Musical Theatre pieces (particular to major)

• These pieces are also performed in front of local and national casting agents

The audition’s purpose is to observe the candidate’s standard in in all areas of performing arts. The candidate must be prepared for all disciplines of performing arts to be included and assessed.

This is a time to assess the candidate’s potential, commitment and technical and performance capabilities. Questions regarding training and experience may also be asked in the audition.

APAN is here to support all performing arts students in their personal journey to be the best performer that they can be. The audition will be a positive experience to assess how we, the faculty, could support the applicant in future training. The applicant is expected to possess one area of strength in performing arts.

how Your Audition is Assessed

The audition panel will be looking for talent, potential and passion. Pieces will be marked on both technique and performance. Candidate will be expected to announce their pieces before performing and may include a brief explanation if they desire. Questions regarding training and experience may also be asked in the audition.

Audition pieces need to be completely memorized in thought, line retention and action.

A copy of the monologue must be submitted to the audition panel so that text, context and line retention may be checked during and after the audition.

Are There Any oTher CoMPonenTs InVolVeD In AN AuditioN?

The candidate will be asked to attend a group dance audition. The dance audition’s purpose is to observe the candidate’s standard in dance (in accordance to prior learning and skills) and to streamline candidates in dance units, if accepted into the course, with prior learning and skills taken into complete consideration.

The candidate may be asked to sight read an unseen script. The candidate may be asked to sing lines of a different song, or simple singing exercise.

Candidate needs to be vocally and physically warm for the audition where applicable. APAN recommends arriving early so that a personal warm up can occur. APAN does not take any responsibility for injury incurred during an audition.

• Not to exceed 3 minutes in duration

• A copy of monologue to be submitted to audition panel

• Personal props need to be supplied by candidate where appropriate

• One Musical Theatre solo is requested

• Song not to exceed 3 minutes duration

• Track to be on compact disc and ONLY track on disc

• Supply own accompanist with sheet music

• Music needs to be instrumental NO BACKING VOCAL

• Open Dance Audition in Call back situations.

Please note: Students may be asked to sing a second song from their repertoire, or present a second monologue. Students may spend time with Head of vocals for range and technique.

Course Fees APAN strives to keep the costs of these nationally recognised qualifications as reasonable as possible. To assist all talented performers for a first rate education, APAN provides a number of payment options. Once accepted, financial procedures and options will be discussed with you (and guardians if applicable).

Certificate ii performing arts or dance $2,460

Certificate II in Performing Arts is a part-time course that runs on a school term basis over a period of thirty-eight weeks. Consisting of 7 units for Musical Theatre or 10 units for Dance. The units are bundled to provide the student with overview knowledge of performing arts to prepare them for future training and educational and career pathways.

Certificate iV Commercial dance $13,600

Above fee is inclusive of Interstate Performance/Training Tour, flights, accommodation, tours, workshops and shows. Plus a 3 day compulsory performance summer camp. Plus class tuition, including national and international guest teachers, accounting and administration fees, venue rehearsal fees and extra rehearsal tuition. Showcase DVD, inclusive APAN membership for the year of study.

Certificate iV musical theatre $14,300

Above fee is inclusive of Interstate Performance/Training Tour, flights, accommodation, tours, workshops and shows. Plus a 3 day compulsory performance summer camp. Plus class tuition, including national and international guest teachers, accounting and administration fees, venue rehearsal fees and extra rehearsal tuition. Additional Information additional Curriculum outlays

Should any excursions become available to the students (e.g. a play, musical, gallery etc.) any costs incurred will be the responsibility of the student. Group concessions usually apply.

It must be noted that all personal equipment required for the course, including shoes, apparel should be purchased within the first three weeks of the course commencing or students will not be permitted to train. Attire standards are distributed in your acceptance package.

All personal performance attire required for showcase, including shoes, stockings, undergarments etc. must be purchased within the first three weeks of the showcase period. Showcase costumes may include some personal items that are sourced independently.

All extra personal tuition is optional however, if booked for course support it is a pre-arranged fee through the APAN office.

If any units are not met successfully the client/student may be charged for reenrolment.

APAN is a Registered Training Organisation. The enrolled student may qualify for Austudy/Abstudy benefits and other government assistance. All APAN full-time students are eligible for Transperth student concessions for the year of study.

When a student fails to reach a standard required within the unit, the flexible delivery offers a chance to resit or reattempt this skill or knowledge. The circumstance that a resit is allowed and made is at the discretion of the assessor, the trainer and where needed also the CEO. If this occurs due lack of preparation or effort of the candidate a resit fee of $50.00 plus GST will be charged to the candidate at time of assessment to supplement the assessor and trainer time. If the alternative assessment is through no fault of the candidate injury/illness no charge is applied.

semester fees

To ensure course accessibility and affordability, the course can be paid through a variety of set payment plans organized with the CEO prior to commencement. Paperwork will then be completed by applicant and CEO according to Financial Policy and Procedures of APAN. Payment of accounts is to be made monthly on the first day of each month.

Note: Students under 21 years of age must have a guarantor for the payment of all course fees and all students and guarantors must sign the contract to the conditions of payment.

Students who miss a scheduled payment will not be permitted to attend class until a payment is made. If missing a payment becomes a regular occurrence, the student’s enrolment may be revoked or the Faculty may demand full fees before any tuition is taken.

withdrawing from the Course

APAN has limited spots in all courses to ensure individual attention and progression of all students. When a student withdraws, they forfeit their place. APAN’s faculty will view reasons for withdrawal on a case by case basis and financial penalties may apply up to one term in lieu.

deferring a Qualification

If a student wishes to defer a qualification, a holding fee of $1000.00 will be payable. This holding fee will be credited towards semester fees when students returns to training. Holding fees will not be refunded if a student does not wish to return to training.

expulsion

Penalty fees apply and are the same to that as withdrawing students.

refund of fees

APAN assesses refunds on a case by case basis. Fees paid in advance are always protected but will only be refunded if student meets Faculty conditions.

recognition of prior learning (rpl)

APAN has a Recognition of Prior Learning Policy. The faculty assesses candidates informally for RPL during the audition process.

If you have completed a qualification or unit of competency with a Registered Training Organisation you may be eligible for credit transfer.

Complete the RPL Evaluation Form provided in your Audition Pack and return with your Audition Application if applicable.

This will alter your course fees if successful. Our team will then assess and meet with you to discuss your study pathway.
