AP Language and Composition Score Calculation Information
Your AP practice tests, and your actual AP test in May, will be scored using the guidelines that follow. These guidelines come directly from
College Board.Pay close attention to the differences in ‘weight’ for the multiple-choice section and the essays.
We will review this in class when we review data and responses from Practice Test 1.
Score Calculations - Step 1 (weighted scores)
Section 1/MC
• Multiple Choice: # correct (x) 1.2499 = weighted score
Section 2/Essay
• Essay 1 (out of 9) (x) 3.0556 = weighted score
• Essay 2 (out of 9) (x) 3.0556 = weighted score
• Essay 3 (out of 9) (x) 3.0556 = weighted score
Note: Your weighted score WILL NOT be rounded. You will add the scores from both sections to determine your composite score.
Score Calculations - Steps 2 & 3
Section 2
• Add up the weighted scores for each essay to determine a section 2 total.
Composite Score
• Weighted Section 1/MC Score (+) Weighted Section 2/Essay Score = Composite Score
Note: Your composite score WILL be rounded to the nearest whole number in accordance with College Board Scoring Guidelines.
Score Calculations - Step 4
Convert the composite score to an AP Score (1 – 5) using the conversion chart.

Enhance your practice test score by up to 25 points by completing the review
activities outlined on the Practice Test and Review Session handout you were
given in March. An electronic copy can also be found on website.
No matter what, your final exam score cannot exceed 100 points total.
Review Activities need to be submitted to Mrs. Bondi directly and in alignment
with the due dates indicated on the Practice Test and Review Session handout.
Caveat! If for some reason you end up NOT taking the AP
test for APLAC, either on the test date or the make -up test date, you WILL be REQUIRED to take an
actual final exam for this class.
You may also CHOOSE to take the final exam on the day of finals even if you take the AP test for
APLAC. However, if you CHOOSE to take the final exam, as opposed to using your BEST practice test
score, you will not be able to change your mind once you begin taking the final exam.
