AP CHEMISTRY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT The following summer assignment is optional but is highly recommended as a review of what you should have learned in honors chemistry. Below are the topics that you should have covered: I have attached our old AP text which is excellent and I will be using as a resource next year. Here is the link: https://misterchemistry.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Chemistry-the- central-science-.pdf You should read through and practice all of these topics in the attached text. You should go through the odd number problems. The answers are at the end of the text so that you can check your work. You should also use youtube for additional help on any of the topics that you feel you need a refresher, or that you did not cover in your honors chemistry class. I will be going through all of these topics as a review and adding additional information throughout the year. There will also new topics added as the year progresses. Not all the chapters are included because we will go over them together. Chapter 1. Matter and Measurement (all sections). This chapter covers basic concepts. One of the main things in this chapter is dimensional analysis (conversions). I will be using T-charts, so you may want to practice. Semester One Semester Two Quarter 1 1. Matter Properties and Change Quarter 3 2. Scientific Measurement 10. The Mole 3. Atomic Structure 11. Stoichiometry 4. Electron in Atoms 12. Solutions/concentration 5. Periodic Table Quarter 4 Quarter 2 13. Acids and Bases 6. Ionic and Metallic Bonding 14. Gases 7. Covalent Bonding/ Geometry & molecular shapes 15. Thermochemistry 8. Inter and Intramolecular forces 16. Equilibrium/Rate 9. Chemical Reactions /Balancing and Classification

AP CHEMISTRY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT

The following summer assignment is optional but is highly recommended as a review of what you should have learned in honors chemistry. Below are the topics that you should have covered:

I have attached our old AP text which is excellent and I will be using as a resource next year. Here is the link: https://misterchemistry.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Chemistry-the-central-science-.pdf

You should read through and practice all of these topics in the attached text.

Chapter 2. Atoms, Molecules, Ions (Sections 2.1-2.8) This chapter covers more basic chemistry concepts. Students are expected to know their common elements and symbols. You do not need to know their atomic number. Students should also know their common ions in “Nick the camel”. Type in “Nick the Camel” into youtube and watch the video if you haven’t heard of this before.

There are attached pdfs for elements and ions.

Students should know how to identify and name ionic and covalent compounds and acids.

Chapter 3. Stoichiometry (all sections). This chapter covers the mole and stoichiometry.

You do NOT need to go through chapter 4 because we will go through this together in a different order.

Chapter 5. Thermo, Section 5.5 ONLY. We will do the rest of it together.

Chapter 6. Electrons in Atoms, 6.1-6.4, 6.8-6.9

Chapter 7. Periodic Table, Section 7.1-7.4, 7.6-7.8

Chapter 8. Chemical Bonding: P290-294, Section 8.3, 8.4 p298-301,p305-306

We will go over formal charge and oxidation/reduction together.

Chapter 9: Molecular Geometry, Section 9.1-9.4 only

Chapter 10 Gases, P387 10.3 – p394

Chapter 11 Inter and Intramolecular forces, p428-436

Chapter 14 Reaction rates, section 14.1 only

Chapter 16 Acids & Bases, 16.1-16.4
