PURPOSEA comprehensive multi-disciplinary course for health care professionals, this course enables participants to enhance their skills in the management of foot and ankle problems. Topics covered include: the evaluation and office treatment of common causes of forefoot, midfoot and hindfoot pain; the assessment of foot mechanics; the aging foot; the role of shoewear and orthotic devices in treating disorders; foot and ankle injuries; and foot complications in diabetes mellitus. This course emphasizes the non-operative management of foot and ankle problems.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONIn general sessions, members of the faculty will discuss their roles in the integrated care of a wide variety of common foot and ankle ailments. Breakout sessions will address aspects of foot and ankle care relevant

to each participant’s specific practice and attendees will have the opportunity to rotate through each session. Case presentations will demonstrate treatment principles and facilitate open discussion.

GOALSThis course is designed to give attendees the knowledge and skills to:

WHO SHOULD ATTENDThis meeting is designed for physicians and other health care professionals involved in foot and ankle care including nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, orthopaedic technicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and orthotists/pedorthists and prosthetists.

STATEMENT OF NEEDA need for this educational activity has been determined based on previous course evaluations and the AOFAS educational curriculum. The content of this course was based on current issues and topics provided by AOFAS membership and leadership.

CME CREDIT The AOFAS is accredited by the Accreditation CouncilforContinuingMedicalEducation(ACCME)toprovidecontinuingmedicaleducation(CME)forphysicians.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM MISSIONCME Purpose: The American Orthopaedic Foot&AnkleSociety(AOFAS)isanon-profit professional organization committed to improving the medical and surgical care of disorders of the foot and ankle. The overallgoaloftheAOFASCMEprogramis to provide orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeons with the highest quality learning opportunities that are designed to advance physician competence, enhance practice performance, promote patient safety, and improve patient outcomes in the population served.TheAOFASCMEprogramsaredesigned to respond to, and be reflective of, continuous assessment of needs as derived from scientific advances in the field of orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery and the needs and desires of AOFAS members. The AOFAS further seeks to provide orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeons as well as allied healthcare providers with educational programs and materials of the highest quality, to constantly improve the content and value of these educational activities and to promote research in all aspects of orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery and related sciences in the promotion of quality healthcare.

Content areas:AOFASCMEcontentidentifies and addresses the treatment of all clinical issues related to foot and ankle congenital and acquired disorders, and is designed to meet the educational needs of AOFAS members, orthopaedic surgeons, fellows and residents, and healthcare providers engaged in the practice of treating disorders of the foot and ankle. orthopaedic surgery fellows and residents in training, and allied healthcare professionals having an interest in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders.

Types of activities provided: The types of activitiesthatcomprisetheAOFASCMEprogram include comprehensive annual scientific meetings containing seminars, symposia, papers, courses, clinical and practice management workshops, technology tips, and electronic posters as well as regional courses and national webinars on clinical topics.
