Pentecost 4 -- June 28 & 30, 2020 “Welcome Visitors and Members!”
Focus: The Christian Church grows as God leads public ministers to show compassion for His people.
3
M: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
CONFESSION OF SINS
M: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our
Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.
C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have
disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed
to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But
I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord,
have mercy on me, a sinner.
LORD, HAVE MERCY
Kyrie
M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the
atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority,
I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy
Spirit.

THE WORD
Old Testament Reading: Numbers 27:15-23 15Moses spoke to the Lord, 16“May the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the community, 17who will go out before them and come in before them, who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the community of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.” 18The Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and place your hand on him. 19Have him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the entire community. You will commission him in their sight. 20You will give some of your authority to him so that the entire Israelite community will listen to him. 21He will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will inquire for him before the Lord with the decision of the Urim. He and all the Israelites with him, the entire community, will go out at his command and come in at his command.” 22Moses did just as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the entire community. 23He placed his hands on him and commissioned him, just as the Lord spoke through Moses.

Psalm 100
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.*
Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.*
Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;*
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Refrain
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;*
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;*
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son*
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,*
is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Refrain

New Testament Reading: 2 Thessalonians 2:16-3:5 16May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and in his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17encourage your hearts and establish you in every good work and word. Finally, brothers, pray for us so that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be glorified just as it was among you. 2Pray also that we may be rescued from evil and wicked people. For not everyone has faith. 3Still, the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and protect you from the Evil One. 4We also have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we are telling you. 5May the Lord continue to direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s patient endurance. Verse of the Day: Psalm 132:9 Alleluia! May your priests be clothed with righteousness. May your favored ones shout for joy. Alleluia!
Gospel Reading: Matthew 9:35-10:8
After the announcement of the Gospel, the congregation sings:
35Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and downcast, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38Therefore pray that the Lord of the harvest will send out workers into his harvest.” Jesus called his twelve disciples to himself and gave them authority to drive out unclean spirits and to heal every disease and every sickness. 2These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee and his brother John; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;
9
James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. 5Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them, “Do not go among the Gentiles, and do not enter any town of the Samaritans. 6Go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near!’ 8Heal the sick. Raise the dead. Cleanse lepers. Drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
After the Gospel, the congregation sings:
APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

as we look for ways to upgrade our playground area for school children, their families, and
the community.
WELS Weekly Prayer: Military Services – Dear Lord, today we thank you for the work
you do through the WELS Military Services Committee. By providing spiritual services to
WELS members and others who serve in the United States Armed Forces, this committee
enables those absent from their home congregations to stay close to you as their Lord and
Savior. Bless the work of the military contact pastors this committee supervises as they
serve the military installations in their cities and communities, providing the assurance of
your comforting peace and constant presence to those serving our country. Amen.

"Welcome Visitors & Members!"
To those who are visiting us for the first time, we extend our sincere
welcome; to our friends who know us we renew our welcome; to those who
seek a church home we invite you to be part of our family and enjoy
fellowship with our Savior.
To assist you in worship, both personal listening devices & large print
hymns are available for anyone to use. Please talk to the ushers for assistance.
Visitors, if you would like to know more about our church or school, please
introduce yourself to our pastor. He would be delighted to speak with you and
serve you in whatever way he can.
We love seeing young children in church as we want families to worship
together. We also love to hear children making a "joyful noise to the Lord." If
you need some privacy for feeding an infant or changing a diaper, please make
use of our parents' room off the north side of the entryway where you can still
listen to the service.
