Did you know that over 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty...that’s one in every two children in the world. Or that according to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty...that’s over 8 million children needlessly dying each year out of the eye of the western media.

The first couple of days are immersed in the running culture of Iten… ‘the home of champions’ at the world famous High Altitude Training Centre (HATC). Here you will be surrounded and inspired by some of the best athletes in the world including current and past Olympic champions.

We will get our hands dirty as we get involved in some building work at the One Heart Children’s Village so you can leave your mark. Here we also get to spend some time at the One Heart School and get to know the kids.

This is your opportunity to step out and take part in what would have to be the most adventurous

and inspiring personal development experience in Australia.

You can take part as an individual or in a team. The total group will be around 20 people and is open to participants from anywhere in the world, subject to an application process. We will all rendezvous in Nairobi, Kenya, before the group journey begins where you will no doubt build some new friendships.

You will be exposed to the realities of poverty and what can be done to change it as we visit the street kid’s shelters, slums and get to meet the many friends and partners of One Heart. For some, it will be the opportunity to meet their sponsor child.

Then the ultimate test…the actual Run from Poverty. Choose your own distance to suit your ability. From 5km right up to a full marathon. You can also choose to complete the marathon in a relay if you are travelling as a team. It’s up to you…so challenge yourself.

A journey to Kenya wouldn’t be complete without a safari, so we finish the experience in the breathtaking Masai Mara National Park to witness the annual migration of the wildebeest including breakfast with the hippos!

Over 10 incredible days in July each year, participants experience a journey like no other. Designed for any level of running ability, it is about much more than just running…it is an

experience that will challenge your mind, body and soul.

Throughout the 10 days there will be workshop sessions on leadership and personal development with a range of inspiring guest speakers designed to stretch you and challenge you to be the best you can be.

The unique Run from Poverty Experience will see you talking with and learning from some of the legends of Kenyan running, some of the greatest athletes in the world and being challenged to assess your own goals. This is a priceless experience.

With its scenic beauty and abundant wildlife, Kenya is most famous for two things…it’s runners and the Masai Mara. You’ll be experiencing the best of both!

One Heart Foundation has a friendship with various Kenyan world champions, Olympians and record holders who are often in high altitude training in the Rift Valley town of Iten. Team members will have the rare opportunity to sit and talk to athletes to gain a better understanding of what it takes to become a champion.

Originally an Irish missionary who came to Kenya in 1976, Brother Colm is still actively coaching and has gone on to become known as the ‘Godfather of Kenyan running’. He has coached over 25 world champions including David Rudisha who he continues to coach today. He will share with us some of the wisdom he has gained over many years of nurturing

A key goal of the Run from Poverty Experience is to raise funds to construct more homes, classrooms and provide seed funding for income generating sources. Therefore as part of the overall experience, each participant is required to raise $10,000 each to contribute to the One Heart projects.

Funds raised will be used to continue the expansion of this life saving work and we are confident that the effort you and your business commit to reaching the minimum target will only make the overall experience richer for you, as it will cause you to engage on a deeper level.

In addition, all donations to One Heart are fully tax deductible.

One Heart has a long term vision to create a series of villages that are financially, environmentally and socially sustainable. We know that in order to provide a lasting change for generations to come we need to continue to develop a model that is self sustainable. This is why all of our projects are aimed at providing for the immediate needs of our kids, and also generate an income stream or an outcome that will transform the community. Therefore we are continuing to raise funds for the following key projects.

The Run from Poverty Experience is an initiative of One Heart, a Christian based not for profit organisation founded in 2007 out of Melbourne, Australia, and working in Kenya to alleviate poverty. Through the financial support of child sponsors, local business and churches in Australia, One Heart has grown to now care for 75 orphaned and abandoned children and is continuing to build children’s homes and schools that are a tool to changing lives for generations to come.

The Run from Poverty experience is a unique opportunity to make a change and to be changed. Your fundraising contribution is key to seeing the project realised and the goal of saving more children achieved.

The Run From Poverty event takes place in July and is limited to only 20 people. To apply, complete the online ‘registration of interest’ form and return it to info@oneheart.foundation. All members will be contacted by One Heart Foundation for an interview to discuss your potential involvement in the Experience, this ensures all participants are suitable to take part.

Once you are selected for the experience you will be provided with all the information regarding the trip and will be requested to pay a non-refundable deposit of $500 (AUD) in order to secure your position on the team.

The total cost for each participant is $4,900 (AUD) including the deposit. This covers all accommodation, meals, internal travel costs and training (please note that accommodation is twin share and international flights are excluded).

Each member is responsible to make their own travel arrangements to and from Nairobi, Kenya (we can assist with group bookings if required). Standard economy return airfares start from approx. $1,800

In addition to participants own travel costs, each member is required to fundraise a minimum of $10,000 in order to qualify to take part in this event.
