“THE EUROPE OF MYTH AND LEGEND” USING ICT AND MYTHOLOGY IN DEVOLOPING LITERACY Noah during his prophecy invited the people to believe in God. Along with his sons Sam, Ham, Yafes and their wives, only a few people believed in him. Even his fourth son Yam didn’t believe. Despite all Noah’s efforts his people still would not believe in God. After a little while, God told Noah to build an ark. Noah started to build the ark in the highlands of Mesopotamia where he lived. He put the sticks together and daubed pitch on them. Many people mocked him. When the construction of the ark was finished, the signs of the deluge appeared. Noah invited his followers to the ark. Yam, refusing the invitation, thought that he could survive by going to higher ground. Noah, his sons, their wives, 40 men, 40 women and two of each animal boarded the ark. In a very short time the great flood had covered everywhere. The people and animals who had not boarded the ark drowned. 6 months later, the deluge ended and the waters receded. There are two different opinions on location of where the ark came to land. Some say it came to rest on the very top of a mountain called Ararat, the highest mountain in Turkey. Others say it landed on Mount Cudi, approximately 200 miles south of Mt. Ararat. Noah sent a dove away when he saw a rainbow marking the end of the flood. A week later, the dove returned with an olive branch.Noah knew the people could return to the land. However before the people left the ark, all the remaining cereals were mixed and boiled. The soup that was made from these cereals was called Aşure. Aşure is still cooked in Turkey, traditionally on the anniversary of the end of the deluge. It is made traditionally on the 10th of Muharrem month or during the Muharrem month ( the first month of Islamic calender). *The aşure event symbolizes the true meaning of friendship: peace, unity and harmony among people of different cultures and beliefs. When the deluge was over, the people returned to the land and some say that we are descended from the three sons of Noah and other people on board the ark.

“THE EUROPE OF MYTH AND LEGEND”

USING ICT AND MYTHOLOGY IN DEVOLOPING LITERACY

Noah during his prophecy invited the people to believe in God. Along with his sons

Sam, Ham, Yafes and their wives, only a few people believed in him. Even his fourth

son Yam didn’t believe. Despite all Noah’s efforts his people still would not believe in

God. After a little while, God told Noah to build an ark. Noah started to build the ark in

the highlands of Mesopotamia where he lived. He put the sticks together and daubed

pitch on them. Many people mocked him. When the construction of the ark was

finished, the signs of the deluge appeared. Noah invited his followers to the ark. Yam,

refusing the invitation, thought that he could survive by going to higher ground. Noah,

his sons, their wives, 40 men, 40 women and two of each animal boarded the ark.

In a very short time the great flood had covered everywhere. The people and animals

who had not boarded the ark drowned. 6 months later, the deluge ended and the

waters receded. There are two different opinions on location of where the ark came to

land. Some say it came to rest on the very top of a mountain called Ararat, the highest

mountain in Turkey. Others say it landed on Mount Cudi, approximately 200 miles

south of Mt. Ararat.

Noah sent a dove away when he saw a rainbow marking the end of the flood. A week

later, the dove returned with an olive branch.Noah knew the people could return to the

land. However before the people left the ark, all the remaining cereals were mixed and

boiled. The soup that was made from these cereals was called Aşure. Aşure is still

cooked in Turkey, traditionally on the anniversary of the end of the deluge. It is made

traditionally on the 10th of Muharrem month or during the Muharrem month ( the first

month of Islamic calender).

*The aşure event symbolizes the true meaning of friendship: peace, unity and

harmony among people of different cultures and beliefs.

When the deluge was over, the people returned to the land and some say that we are

descended from the three sons of Noah and other people on board the ark.
