Julian Robinson

“Creating an enabling environment for ICT and Business Development”

Julian Robinson is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Mining, Energy and ICT. Julian studied at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Management and Economics. He served as Vice President of the Guild of Undergraduates from 1992-3 and was the recipient of the University's Premier Award for Leadership. In 1990, he was the first recipient of The Isaac Henry Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association to the student who best exemplifies the qualities of the ideal student/athlete – outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom, together with good discipline and leadership qualities. 1994, he left Jamaica to pursue further studies and obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign two years later. In 1994 he was awarded the University of Illinois MBA Association Fellowship Award. In his final year, he participated in an International Exchange Program at Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom. Julian worked in London with IBM UK Ltd as a Management Consultant, where he advised European companies on how to use Information Technologies to achieve competitive advantages. He returned to Jamaica in 2001 and worked at JAMPRO as Manager for Investment Promotion. He was instrumental in attracting a number of companies to establish offshore outsourcing operations in Jamaica. In his spare time, Julian runs long distances and has completed a marathon and three half marathons. He enjoys watching sports.

Spinder Dhaliwal

“Creating a Sustainable Advantage & Lessons learned from Asian Entrepreneurs”

Spinder Dhaliwal is an Author, researcher and lecturer of entrepreneurship at the University of Surrey located in London, England. She founded the Center for Asian Entrepreneurial Research in the United Kingdom. Dr. Dhahilwal latest book is titled "Making a Fortune: Learning from the Asian Phenomenon." The book catalogues the fire and spark that have ignited the Asian imagination, a demographic that has traditionally made extraordinary strides in entrepreneurship. Spinder Dhaliwal will apply transferrable principles across boundaries and apply it to business relationships across the Caribbean Diaspora as well as speak to aspects of the relationship strategies employed by Asian entrepreneurs can be transferred to the Jamaican/Caribbean Context.

Brian George

“Experience is the best tutor for Success”

Brian George has been CEO and President of Supreme Ventures Ltd. since its launch of operations in 2001. Prior to

joining SVL, he was Senior Director of GTECH Latin America and General Manager of GTECH Jamaica and Barbados.

As General Manager of GTECH Jamaica, he had been working closely with SVL even prior to the launch of

operations in 2001.

Brian's career with GTECH Corporation began in 1994 when he was appointed Deputy General Manager for

Trinidad. He was then promoted to General Manager - Trinidad, and soon thereafter to Vice President of GTECH's

subsidiary in Florida - Dreamport, which specialized in the provision of technical services to state sponsored Video

Lottery Operations in the USA, Canada, Europe and South Africa.

Brian's valuable marketing insight and considerable management expertise was enhanced by nine years

experience in the gaming industry. Brian is a Board member and Chairman of the Early Childhood Committee of

the CHASE Fund in Jamaica, the 'Good Cause' Fund established by the Government of Jamaica that receives funding

from the gaming sector. CHASE funds landmark projects in the area of Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education.

Rosa Muraguri-Mwololo

“Mobile Business: Revolution or Evolution”

Rosa Muraguri-Mwololo (Nairobi, Kenya) is a champion for African Entrepreneurship and has been instrumental in the development of numerous initiatives to support SME development. Her initiatives to increase entrepreneurship in the region include providing support for the development of the industry for mobile transactions. She holds a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA and a PhD in Education for Business Management from the same University.

Rosa has extensive experience in the field of entrepreneurship with a bias to small and micro-enterprises. She has examined extensively the impact of Mobile Business Development on the Kenyan economy. For more than 10 years, she worked as a Senior Program Officer with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in different capacities, and supported the development of small and micro-enterprises for women in the East African region. Rosa worked with the Norwegian International Development Agency (NORAD), promoting small and micro-enterprise development. Rosa headed unit engaged in advancing and promoting SMEs and was a key member of a team that developed the first policy paper for Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Kenya.

Rosa has consulted for numerous governments, non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, The World Bank, universities and done pro bono work for many local groups in the area of entrepreneurship.

Maurice McNaughton

“Open Source and Cloud Computing: Leveling the Playing Field for SMEs”

Dr Maurice McNaughton pursued his PhD studies in Decision Sciences at Georgia State University, and

combines that accomplishment with over 15 years senior management and leadership experience in the planning

and direction of enterprise-level Information Technology in organizations. He is currently Director of the

Centre of Excellence at the Mona School of Business, where he is evolving an Application-oriented Research

Agenda around the use of ICTs to enable Business Innovation in the Small Medium Enterprise sector in

Jamaica and the Caribbean. He has a strong passion for higher education and has taught courses in Software

Economics, Business Statistics & Modeling, Data Analysis and Decision Support Systems.

Bruce Scott

“Efficient Risk Management”

Bruce Scott, FCA, FCCA, CISA, MBA, CBCP, CISM, CPA, CFE, CIA, CRISC - Partner Bruce L Scott has been involved in risk management since 1993. He is the partner in charge of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Jamaica, Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit Services practices. Bruce has close to 21 years of risk management, financial, operational, IT audit, internal audit, information security, business process controls and business continuity planning experience. Bruce has been trained in the firm’s ERM methodology in the PwC London office. Bruce also spent six months in PwC Toronto on a tour of duty, in their Global Risk Management Solutions (GRMS) practice, where he further honed his risk management skills. Bruce has led and performed several enterprise level risk assessments for companies in the financial services, manufacturing, insurance and retail services. These assessments involve the identification of strategic, compliance, technology, human resources and operational etc objectives, the risks that could thwart those objectives and the controls in place to address these risks. Bruce holds a number of credentials in various fields (he is a certified information systems auditor (CISA), he is

certified in risk and information systems control (CRISC), a certified information security manager (CISM), a

certified business continuity planner (CBCP), a certified internal auditor (CIA), a certified public accountant (CPA),

USA, a chartered accountant (UK/Jamaica), a certified fraud examiner (CFE) and holds an MBA from Manchester

Business School, UK) and therefore is able to bring a comprehensive view on various types of risks and controls.

Ethlyn Norton Cooke

“Efficient Tax Management Strategies”

Ethlyn Norton-Cooke specializes in taxation in her capacity as an attorney-at-law and an accountant. She serves on

a number of Boards including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica, the Public Accountancy Board,

Nuttall Memorial Hospital, the Land Titling Committee in the Office of the Prime Minister and the Advisory Board

of Management of the Registrar of Companies. She has served on the boards of the University Hospital of the West

Indies, the National Solid Waste Management, where she was the Chairman for one (1) year and previously served

as Chairman of the Finance Committee.

Ethlyn Norton-Cooke has taught extensively in the areas of Taxation, Auditing, Financial Management, Money

Laundering, Conveyancing Law and Office Management Courses for Attorneys-at-law, University of the West

Indies, Norman Manley Law School, Nova Southern University, University of New Orleans and at the Jamaica

Institute of Management where she is a Fellow. She was a presenter and chairperson of the last two Treasury

Management Seminars held in the Caribbean (Jamaica and Barbados) convened by Euro Finance, United Kingdom.

She is the Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Chairman of the Taxation

Committee of that institute.

Prior to joining UTech Mrs. Norton-Coke served at Deloitte & Touche as Director, Tax Services with responsibility

for negotiating liabilities in respect of areas of taxes, and arguing tax cases at the levels of the Resident Magistrate

and Supreme Courts. She has also served at Dunn Cox & Orrett as Attorney-at-Law, National Housing Trust as Legal

Consultant and Caribbean Cement Company as Legal Advisor/Company Secretary.

Omar Azan

“Building business relationships through effective and innovative communication”

Mr. Omar Azan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Boss Furniture, has worked his way through the ranks of the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) for over (10) years, from Vice President, to Treasurer, to Deputy President, to President, a position he has held since June 2007.

Mr. Azan, an entrepreneur for over fifteen (15) years, and an avid believer of offering your service for the development of your country, also serves on the Board of the Export-Import (EXIM) Bank of Jamaica, as the Budget Chair, on the Board of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) as Chairman and as a Board Member of the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC).

Mariame McIntosh

“Raising Business Capital”

As a Senior Vice President of Portland Private Equity, Mariame is part of the investment team and is focused on deal origination, diligence, structuring, documentation, and mentoring. She has spent over eight years as a strategy consultant with Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company. She attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar and is an alumnus of both M.I.T. and Harvard University. Mariame co-founded "Nation Building," an organization that brings African-American graduate students together.

Winsome Minott

“Accounting for Governance in Business Development”

Winsome Minott is the Chief Executive Officer of Mint Corporation Limited and Mint Management &

Finance Services Limited. She has provided invaluable assistance to the small business sector in excess of

twenty years. Her experience spans the financial, retail, manufacturing and tourism sectors. She started

her career as an Assistant Accountant at Jamaica Development Bank, Chartered Secretary in the offices of

Messrs. Touche Ross Thorburn & Company now Deliote & Touche, and later CEO at Mint Corporation

Limited and Mint Management & Finance Services Limited

Winsome acted as the Registrar of National Continental Corporation Limited (A Public Company formerly

listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange). She also served on the Board of Directors of several companies

including Enterprise Development Trust (EDT), and the University of Technology Entrepreneurial Centre

(UTECH). She also contributed to the proposed amendments to the latest Jamaican Company Law.

Winsome is currently Company Secretary for Supreme Ventures Limited and a member of the Audit

Committee of Key Insurance Company Limited. She holds a Masters Degree in Accounting and is a

member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. She is also a member of the

Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ). Winsome has done extensive research in the field of

Business Development.

Parris Lyew-Ayee, Jr

“Innovation in technology development critical for Growth”

Dr Parris Lyew-Ayee is the Director of the Mona GeoInformatics Institute at the University of the West

Indies, which functions as the geographic information systems (GIS) hub of the Mona campus. He is

responsible for overseeing all commercial and research and development activities at the operation. He

also lectures final-year students in GIS at the Department of Geography and Geology, as well as several

MSc courses offered at the University.

He sits on over a dozen Boards and committees, including serving as the Chairman of the Water

Resources Authority, and also NEM Insurance Company Ltd, Management Control Systems, the Jamaica

Automobile Association, KENCASA Property Development Company, the Jamaica Conservation and

Development Trust, and sits on the Advisory Board of the National Works Agency. He was the Chairman

of the National Housing Trust’s Policy and Human Resources Committee, a Board member and a member

of its Technical Committee from 2007 to 2012. He is also a member of the Crime Observatory and

Violence Prevention Alliance, Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (USA), the

International Association of Crime Analysts, the Chinese Benevolent Association, Executive Council

member of the Geological Society of Jamaica and the Jamaica Geographical Society, and an Honorary

Fellow of the Unit for Disaster Studies.

His active research includes natural hazards analyses, crime modeling, Martian rock breakdown analyses,

transport systems modeling, karst geomorphology, terrain signature diagnoses, geocomputational

modeling, geospatial planning for businesses, GPS systems, and web mapping.

He is the author or co-author of over 30 peer-reviewed books, papers, book chapters, magazine articles

and consultancy technical reports.

He is a former Jamaica Exhibition and United Kingdom Commonwealth Scholar, receiving a First Class

Honours BSc in Earth Sciences from UWI, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography from the University of

Oxford.

He is the recipient of the 2004 Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence in Academia, the 2005 Youth

Musgrave Medal, the 2006 Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence, and the EduVision 2009

Award for Excellence in innovation.

Valerie Crawford

“Access to financing options through EXIM Bank”

Valerie Crawford is the Manager of Trade Financing and Risk Management at the EXIM Bank Jamaica. The

EXIM Bank’s mandate is to assist Jamaica’s Productive Sector to succeed. Valerie Crawford has extensive

experience working with Jamaican Businesses and analyzing funding options available and opportunities

for export promotion. Mrs. Crawford has spearheaded many collaborations for the EXIM Bank including

with JAMPRO and with the Jamaica Development Bank of Jamaica.

Stefanie Thomas

“Creativity for Business Growth”

Stefanie Thomas is Director of Artistic Expressions Limited, a company committed to the promotion of the Visual, Performing and Literary Arts in Jamaica and Caribbean. Stefanie has spearheaded the development of Cultural Fusion, a festival promoting cultural exchange primarily through dance and music. Stefanie also hosts exhibitions and involved in initiatives to make the arts more accessible in Jamaica and the Caribbean. Stefanie has a blog www.culturalvoice.blogspot.com which shares culture from around the globe and which is being developed into a Cultural Online Magazine. Stefanie is also business development consultant for Mint Management and Finance Services Ltd. A former Youth Ambassador Stefanie has a Masters in Economic Development Policy from the University of the West Indies Mona, and an Undergraduate Degree in Biology and Economics from Colgate University in NY, USA.

Dennis Morrison

“Embracing the Diaspora for Growth”

Dennis Morrison is a noted economist, development specialist and analyst, with vast experience in public policy, the aluminum industry, tourism, infrastructure and airport development. Mr. Morrison was also a member of the team that prepared the National Industrial Policy of Jamaica.

Under his chairmanship of the Airports Authority of Jamaica from 1998 to 2007, the Authority undertook major expansion and modernization programs at both Jamaica’s international airports. He played a key role in negotiating privatization of the Sangster International Airport, and loan financing for development at the Norman Manley International Airport. Mr. Morrison was also Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board from 2002 to 2007, where he spearheaded its restructuring, including integration of global advertising, public relations and promotional programs.

He served as Senior Director at the Jamaica Bauxite Institute, and was one of the negotiators of the landmark

bauxite sector Memorandum of Understanding, as Technical Secretary for the bauxite sector MOU Committee,

and as Chairman of the Task Force on Productivity Schemes. He was also a member of the Jamaica

government’s team responsible for negotiations with bauxite companies.

He currently serves as the Director of Tourism, and the Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board.

Tyrone Wilson

“Internet based technology platforms facilitating small business growth”

Tyrone Wilson is President & CEO of eMedia Interactive Limited (formerly eZines Limited) – Jamaica’s 1st new media company. eMedia connects with audiences via an evolving range of platforms – our eZines (digital magazines) our distributed via email, online, social media and mobile applications; and our revolutionary iVu Online Television Network. In 2011, Tyrone raised US$350,000 (J$30,000,000) in a private placement from PanCaribbean one of Jamaica’s leading investment bank to expand the operations of the company.

Tyrone, a proud graduate of Jamaica College, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Banking & Finance from the University of the West Indies, Mona. He is 1st vice president of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Jamaica, and currently serves as Chairman for National Entrepreneurship Week, in addition to being a board member of the Jamaica College Old Boys’ Association.

Aged 25, he was the 2010 recipient of the Prime Minister’s youth Award for excellence in entrepreneurship. Most recently, Tyrone received the Junior Chamber International (JCI) 2011 Creative young entrepreneur of the year awards for both Jamaica and the Caribbean, and the Trailblazer award from Kingston’s University of Technology, Technology Innovation Centre for his pioneering efforts in new media.

Paula-Ann Porter-Jones

“Business Communication”

A graduate of CARIMAC, Paula-Anne Porter Jones is a lecturer/tutor in communications-related courses at several

institutions. The UWI, MTI, VTDI and UTech are just some of the institutions of learning with which she has been

associated. Currently a broadcaster with RJR 94 FM, she has worked in radio and television presentation and production

for radio and television for the past 15 years. Her experience spans local and international programming and

presentation.

Noel Greenland

“Creating a sustainable advantage”

Noel Greenland is the Vice President of Marketing at GraceKennedy Remittance Services Limited (GKRS).

His 23 years of combined experience in Marketing, Public Relations, Media and Sales, is the platform on

which he undertakes his existing role of leading the strategic marketing charge of GKRS. In his role, he is

responsible for planning and implementing the strategic marketing position of the Western Union, FX

Trader and Bill Express brands in Jamaica and seven other Caribbean markets including Trinidad and

Tobago and Guyana. His extensive knowledge and experience of the remittance industry has also given

him specific insight into the diasporas of Jamaicans and other Caribbean persons in the markets of North

American and the United Kingdom.

Noel works with a team of young, vibrant individuals who are leaders in technology and insight and

possess operational expertise which are combined to strengthen GKRS’s culture of innovation and

resulted in the expansion of the company into new markets and extended its service portfolio and global

reach. Prior to joining GraceKennedy Noel worked for two media houses; The Jamaica Observer and the

then Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation. He has also worked in the retail industry at Facey Commodity

Company Limited.

A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Noel earned his Bsc. in International Relations and his

Masters in Communications. He also pursued Marketing at the then Collage of Arts, Science and

Technology (CAST).

Audrey Hinchcliffe

Audrey Hinchcliffe is an entrepreneur and a health management specialist. She presides over a group of

companies, for which she is Founder and Principal Consultant of Caribbean Health Management

Consultants Ltd., Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Manpower and Maintenance Services

Ltd, and its affiliate the Institute for Workforce Education and Development and Manpower &

Maintenance Placement Agency.

Mrs. Hinchcliffe is a Director of Grace Kennedy Limited, Chairman of Hilo Food Stores, and a member of

the Gleaner Annual Business Leader Award Committee. She was the first Chairman of the Board of

Medecus Health Insurance Company. Mrs. Hinchcliffe was the first female President of Jamaica

Employers’ Federation (JEF) and served two terms from July 2004 to July 2008. Up to September 2007,

she was the Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Enhancement Fund and Chairman of its Projects

Committee. She also served as Chairman of the Nursing Council of Jamaica for 11 years up to March 2005.

On March 29, 20006 Mrs. Hinchcliffe was conferred the honour of the Order of Distinction, in the rank of

Commander (CD) in recognition for her Entrepreneurial Enterprise and Leadership in

Employer/Employee Relationships.

The recipient of several commendations and awards, Mrs. Hinchcliffe is the Ernst & Young Caribbean

Entrepreneur of the Year 2003- Services. She was nominated for the Business Observer – Business

Leader of the Year 2001, and was the recipient of the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston in Celebration of

Women – Award of Excellence in 2002. In May 2005, Mrs. Hinchcliffe was accorded the Business Leader

of The Year Award by Florida International University (Jamaica Program) and in November 2008, she

was accorded the Manager of the Year Award by the Jamaican Institute of Management and the Gleaner

Company.

Mrs. Hinchcliffe enjoys the distinction of being among the Jamaica Observer’s 50 Most Influential Women

(2007), the Daily Gleaner Top 10 Phenomenal Women (2006) and Jamaica Business Magazine 10 Most

Influential Business Women (2007).
