Sphere 1 members and suppliers traveled in May to Orlando, Florida for three days of sun, fun, networking and meetings. Karaoke and BBQ greeted attendees at the opening party. Members participated in newly formed Networking Groups during our Member Meeting. Bob Helcher, Allied Fastener & Tool, was recognized as a founding Board of Director. Allen Kass, Kass Industrial Supply Corp., was elected to the Sphere 1 Board. Top supplier honors went to Powers Fasteners, Champion Cut-ting Tool, and DeWALT. Powers Fasteners was Partner of the Year for Core Products. Champion Cutting Tool received the Partner of the Year award for Accessory Products. These companies will have the opportunity to make a presentation to the members during our May 2011 meeting. DeWALT was Supplier of the Year, for the most volume in 2009. This year’s Member of the Year Award went to the member with the best 2009 “Report Card”, Tom Broadbent, Pioneer Fasteners. The report card ranks each member in the following areas; 1. Number of Preferred Suppliers you purchased from in 2009. 2. Percentage of overall company purchases that went to Preferred Suppliers. 3. Percentage in purchase growth from Preferred Suppliers. 4. Number of successful Gateway for Growth Programs. 5 Sphere 1 University enrolled courses (by location average). Two awards recognized support of Preferred Suppliers. 18 Preferred suppliers. Triangle Fastener purchased from 74 of the 86 preferred suppliers, the highest number among all members. Member Little Hardware Co. and Supplier Irwin were recognized for support of TREK Training/Sphere 1 University. The award for most successful 2009 Gateway for Growth Programs went to member Triangle Fastener Corp. and supplier Simpson Strong-Tie Co. The awards for largest growth in purchases as compared to the previous year went to United Fastener Co., Toolmart, and Tools Plus. ELFCO, Tighton Tools & Fasteners, and Tools Plus were recognized for highest volume by location average. Receiving the awards for highest dollar volume of purchases with preferred suppliers were Kass Industrial Supply, Triangle Fastener and Carlson Systems. Suppliers Brighton-Best International, ELCO, and STI-Specified Technologies Inc. were recognized for the most growth. BizUnite held a drawing for members during the meeting. The winners were:

Scott Cross and Tom Hudgins of Fasco, Las Vegas organized and hosted a fly fishing expedition to Idaho June 17-20. The trip included Sphere1 members
and suppliers, including Jeff Tannenbaum of Tanner Bolt and Nut, Jack Stewart of Powers Fasteners, Lowell Frey from Champion Cutting Tool Corp, and Jim Toller of Fasco, Las Vegas. While everyone enjoyed the accommodations provided by the Lodge at Palisades Creek which included fine dining and luxury cabins, the fishing and bonding experiences provided the highlights.

Contractors Supply Inc. of Denver treated customers to an EXPO on June 4, 2010. The annual event featured more than 40 vendors, demonstrations, food and a car show. Twelve cars were selected as winners during the show. Each car will represent a month on the 2011 CSI calendar. John Zoblas, brother of owner Chris Zoblas, celebrated his birthday during the EXPO. He is pictured above preparing to cut his cake with the help of Miss Makita.

The proposed job creation bill Home Star (aka Cash for Caulkers) could potentially create 168,000 weather-ization contracting jobs over the next two years and provide homeowners with $6 billion worth of incentives. This new bill would allow contrac-tors previously employed in the new construction market to begin work-ing in the weatherization market. One of the most significant aspects of weatherization is air sealing and the easiest/fastest way to achieve the numbers required for the Home Star program is spray polyurethane foam (SPF). In preparation for this game changing bill, 12 members of Fomo Products’ front line team underwent training to become BPI Certified Building Analysts (Building Performance Institute, a national standards development and credentialing organiza-tion for residential energy efficiency retrofit work). This week-long training program covered the knowledge required to perform whole-home assessments, identify problems and the cause and prescribe solutions based on building science.

The translated pages go hand-in-hand with the addition of new Mexico sales representa-tives and an International Regional Manager to South America in late 2009.
