M- Our mission is to make Smyser School a great place to learn by emphasizing the needs of all students (general, gifted, bilingual and special needs including social, emotional and intellectual growth) through a rich and rewarding literacy and critical thinking curriculum integrating technology and fostering an appreciation for the arts.
V- We, the community of Smyser School, believe that all
children can learn and are entitled to an outstanding education rich in opportunities and rewarding experiences. We are committed to providing all children with: a child-centered environment, a love of learning, pride in Smyser School and preparation for the demands of the 21st Century. Develop instructional units anchored by Common Core State Standards and supported by high quality instructional materials to support College and Career Readiness goals. Facilitate horizontal and vertical teacher collaboration to develop integrated units of instruction. Also, identify and purchase additional supplemental instructional materials aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
Provide students with rigorous and dynamic learning opportunities to address College and Career Readiness goals.
Provide differentiated learning opportunities using DIBELS and NWEA data to support students in meeting/exceeding growth targets in reading, math, and science.
Increase parental knowledge and participation in College and Career Readiness goals.
Offer a balanced curriculum through the inclusion of fine arts, technology, and physical development while promoting a culture of calm.

Facilitate horizontal and vertical teacher collaboration to develop integrated units of instruction. Also, identify and purchase additional supplemental instructional materials aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
Examine planning and instructional practices using the Hess Matrix, the CPS Literacy and Math Content Frameworks, and CPS Framework for Teaching to insure the delivery of high quality instruction increasing the number of students exceeding on ISAT and meeting on EXPLORE.
In an effort to meet 2014 Literacy, Math, and Science performance
targets, data will be used to regroup students and provide targeted instruction using NWEA RIT/DesCartes Skills or DIBELS Progress Monitoring data.
It is essential to educate parents on the Common Core State Standards and College and Career Readiness goals. Likewise, develop partnerships with parents to support teaching, learning, programming, extended learning opportunities, and technology connections.
Fully utilize the Full School Day by providing students with dynamic and enriching learning opportunities.

7.1% were Special Education
As of 2011-2012, the largest demographic at SMYSER was Hispanic. As of that time, this demographic made up 56.6% of the student population. The second greatest demographic was White at 37.7%

Update PD binders, security card, and lesson plan books. Be sure you have copies of the CCSS; CPS Framework for Teaching, Literacy
and Math Frameworks. SILT members will facilitate team meetings and serve as “New Hire Buddies”. Work on Unit and Lesson plans. Be sure to meet with your grade level teams and representatives from SPED &
ELL to finalize schedules. Complete Students Living in Temporary Living Situations & Diabetes
Education for School Staff. Access rosters via GRADEBOOK. Set-up websites, emails, and voicemail accounts. Set-up your classes on Compass Learning Odyssey (more information
forthcoming). Bulletin Boards- large & small. Weekly Reader and other student subscriptions to be forwarded to Ms.
Luczak. If you need instructional materials be sure to fill out a Smyser Requisition
sheet- either book room or new orders.
