Antoni Gaudí(1852 – 1926)

Antoni Gaudí is one of themost well-knownmodernist architects.

Millions of tourists visithis work in Barcelona every year, such as Park Güell, Sagrada Familia and Casa Milà (alsoknown as La Pedrera).

Gaudí didn’t mind taking a long time. He used to saythat things in nature needtime to grow.

Gaudí was asked to build a temple, La Sagrada Familia, which he started more than100 years ago, and it stillhasn’t been finished.

Gaudí also built somebuildings in other partsof Spain, like ”Capricho de Gaudí” in Comillas, “Palacio Episcopal” in Astorga and “Casa Botines” in León and he worked on thereconstrution of theCathedral of Mallorca.

Casa Milà(or La Pedrera)

Casa Milà is another ofGaudí’s well-knownbuildings in the heart ofBarcelona. The nickname La Pedrera, which meansquarry, was given by thepeople at the time who didn’tlike the singularity of thebuilding. It caused a lot ofissues before it was acceptedas a historic landmark.

Gaudíand Count Güell

Gaudí, together with CountGüell, created some of hismost inspired works, like theGüell Palace, Colonia Güell and Park Güell.

Trencadís

Gaudí developed some of hismost famous techniques likethe trencadís, a kind ofmosaic made from brokenpieces of tiles.

The Deathof Gaudí

Gaudí lived in Park Güell until the day he died. He was hit by a tram when he was going to his studio within the Sagrada Familia.
