Among patients admitted to hospital with a documented penicillin allergy who were skin tested and challenged, 95% were not allergic and were de-labelled.63 Outpatients with documented penicillin allergies have also been largely (>98%) tolerant to penicillin.64,65
4. In a patient with a true penicillin allergy (by skin testing), cross-reactivity risk with cepahlosporins and carbapenems is about 2-3% or less.
