Spybot Search and Destroy

Find the Anti Spy Ware folder on your desktop and open it. It should like something like the picture below.

Let’s start with “Spybot – Search & Destroy”. Double click on the Spybot Icon. You should have a window open that looks like the next picture.

Now look for the button that say’s “Search for Updates” If there are any updates to be found then you will get a screen that looks like the following picture.

Place a “Check” next to all the options available for update.

Click on the down arrow next to UniDo (Europe). This will bring up a list of servers to download the updates from. Pick one from the USA such as “Spybot.Us by Rootboxen.net (USA)” or which ever one is closes to you. If there are no options for the USA, pick “EON(Austrailia)”. I have had trouble downloading updates from the Eropean sites so I would try all the other sites first.

After selecting the download site click on the “Download updates” option near the top of the screen. After Spybot has found the updates you will get a screen that looks like the following picture. It will have green check marks next to all the available update check boxes and the checks in the boxes will be removed. Depending on the type of updates that are downloaded and installed, Spybot may shut itself down and restart automatically. In this case you will not see the following screen and you may skip to the next step.

Now, shut down Spybot by clicking on the “X” at the top right of the screen and then restart it. Follow the directions at the top of these instructions.

You now have a screen similar to the one shown above. Choose “Check for Problems”

The Screen should change to one similar to the next picture.

When it is done searching for “Spies” you well see the next screen if there are no “Spies” found.

If any “Spies” were found, you should get a screen like the following one.

You want to make sure that there is a check in each box next to each of the “Spies” that were found, as in the example above You can use the “Select all items” option to do this. After all items have been selected then press the “Fix selected problems” option. You should see the following message pop up.

Click “Yes”. And Spybot will start to remove the “Spies”. See below.

Many times, Spybot can not remove all the spies in the first pass. This is because some of the spies are active and the Windows system will not let an active program be deleted. When this happens Spybot will tell you about it and ask you if it can run again and do another scan the next time you start your computer. See below. (If Spybot was able to remove all the items then skip the next two screens.)

Click “Yes” and then restart your computer. When your PC restarts you will see the next screen.

Let Spybot finish scanning, this could take several minutes. After Spybot is done you will get a screen with several options in the left top column. Choose the “Search & Destroy” option. Then repeat the steps from above to remove all the “Spies” listed. After you have removed all the “Spies” you will need to click on the “Recovery” option in the left column. You will then see a screen like the following one.

Make sure that you check all the Boxes. You can also use the “Select all items” option to do this. Then press “Purge selected recovery”. This will bring the following message.

Click on “Yes”. The next screen should be displayed.

Next it is time to select the “Immunize” option in the left column. The next screen will display.

Click “OK” and the next screen will be displayed.

Click on the “Immunize” option. The following message will be displayed.

Click “OK”. Now find the “X” at the top right of this screen, and press it to end the Spybot program.

SpywareBlaster Now it is time to run “SpywareBlaster” Just double click on it’s icon to start it.

The SpywareBlaster program should start and give you the following window.

Look for the “Updates” button and click on it. A window similar to the following will appear. It will scan for updates, and if there are not any it will tell you, or if there are the windows look like the following.

Click on the “Check for Updates” button. After it downloads and installs the available updates you will get a screen like the following:

If there are no updates available the screen will look like the following:

Now click on the “Protection” option to return to your original screen.

Click on the “Enable All Protection” button. If you see an exclamation in a yellow triangle then click on the “Click here to learn more and fix it” The following screen will appear.

This screen will help you make your internet explorer browser more secure. Spywareblaster will tell what you current settings for 3 different browser security options are and what they recommend you have them set as for optimum security. If you are not what these items mean, than you should consider choosing the “Set Recommended Values” since it is better safe than sorry, or you can chooses “Close” to exit the window without making any changes. Increasing the security setting for the listed options may cause some website to have trouble working. In many cases this will be a good thing, but there may be exceptions. If you are having problems after making a security related change, contact a computer professional for advice on whether you should, or how to, restore your original settings. After setting your security settings to the recommended values you will be returned to the main screen, which will now look like this:

You are now done with setting up the basic SpywareBlaster protections, click on the “X” in to right corner of the SpywareBlaster window to shut down the program.

Ad-aware Now it is time to run “Ad-aware SE Personal” Just double click on it’s icon to start it.

The following Ad-aware window will open.

Click Here

Click on “Check for updates now” The next window will appear.

Click on “Connect”. The program will check for updates and if there are none found the following screen will show up. Press “OK” to continue.

If new updates are found than the next screen will appear.

Click on “OK” to start downloading the updates. The downloading updates window will appear. See below.

Click “Finish” and the next screen will appear.

Click “Start” to start scanning for “Spies”. The next screen will appear.

Click Here

Make sure that “Perform smart system scan” or “Perform full system scan” is checked. The custom scanning option has been setup to do a more thorough scan than the smart system scan, but the smart system scan should be adequate most of the time. Then click “Next”. Ad-aware will now start to scan your system for “Spies” and when it is done, if it finds any, the next screen will appear.

Click “Next” and the following screen will show up.

Make sure that you select (Check) all the items that were found by clicking in each “box” next to the found item. You can “Right Click” on a box and then choose “Select All” to select all the items found at one time. Then click “Next”. The following message will appear. Click “OK”.

When it is done it should return you to the following screen.

Click on the “X” in the top right hand corner of the Ad-aware window to close the program.

Congratulations !!!! You should now be SPY free.

If you also have SpywareGuard installed, make sure that you run the “SpywareGuard LiveUpdate” program at least once a week.
