“ANSYS software is an effective tool in simulating the function of the spine. Contact elements

are extremely useful in modeling the complex configuration of components that touch one

another. Nonlinear capabilities of the software are critical in accurately representing the

material properties as well as behavior of the artificial disc and surrounding cartilage,

ligaments and muscle tissue. Such powerful finite element modeling and analysis technologies

are essential in studying the impact, stresses and loading in various parts of the spine. Simply

put, our work could not have been done as quickly and accurately any other way.”

What we doANSYS designs, develops, markets and globally supports engineering simulation solutions used to predict how product designs will behave in manufacturing and real-world environments. Its integrated, modular and extensible set of solutionsaddresses the needs of organizations in a wide rangeof industries. ANSYS’ solutions qualify risk, enablingorganizations to know if their designs are acceptable orunacceptable – not just that they will function asdesigned. ANSYS helps organizations achieve:

n Innovative, reliable and high-quality products andprocesses

n Fewer physical prototypes and test setups

n Faster return on investment due to reduced development time

n A more flexible and responsive information-baseddevelopment process, enabling the modification ofdesigns at later stages of development

n A front-end simulation strategy that offers a superior method for bringing products to market in less time and with fewer costs

n Seamless working exchange of data regardless oflocation, industry, CAD environment, etc.

Businesses today – faced with mounting competitivechallenges, customer demands and financial pressures – are racing to find new ways to engineermore reliable, innovative products while minimizingcosts. Increasingly, these businesses are discoveringthat simulation-driven design and development canbe a highly effective way to address this challenge.

It is not surprising that ANSYS is the catalyst for this simulation-driven evolution in computer-aidedengineering. Bringing simulation and analysis to thedesign engineering level of product development lays the foundation for a fast, efficient and cost-effective process.

Who we are

ANSYS is leading the evolution of CAE tools and technologies, delivering customer value by enabling companies to improve product development and processes.

ANSYS is committed to developing simulation solutions – from mechanical to computational fluid dynamics(CFD) – that illustrate realistic and accurate modeling and simulation of components, subsystems and systems. Replacing hardware prototyping and testing, ANSYS solutions drive product designs from conceptto reality, providing an engineering simulation system for a fast, efficient and cost-conscious information-based development process.

The most prestigious companies in the world turn to ANSYS for the company’s history of developing and delivering the most reliable engineering simulation solutions – solutions that are integrated, modular and extensible.

Integrated

As the need for engineering simulation becomes a driving factor to ensure company success, moreand more companies are realizing the importance of integrated solutions. ANSYS is focused on delivering anext-generation simulation system that encompassesmultiple tools built to work together and be integratedinto a customer’s development process.

Because the interaction among multiple physics allowsusers to simulate subsystem and system performanceaccurately and reliably, ANSYS has developed synergies among all technologies that can be deployedthroughout all stages of product development. Bycombining industry-leading modeling (meshing) andsimulation (solver) technologies that capture thebehavior of multiple physics and the effect of productenvironment, ANSYS provides more than a point-solution. In addition to plug-in-level integration with allcomputer-aided design (CAD) packages, ANSYS delivers a fully integrated engineering simulation system that fits seamlessly with customer product datamanagement (PDM) backbone and other upstream/downstream applications.

Extensible

As the need for engineering simulation becomes commonplace, organizations require solutions thatcan be tailored easily to meet industry- and customer-specific needs.

To address this, the ANSYS technology platform uses industry-standard programming and scripting languages that allow ANSYS out-of-the-box solutionsto be tailored quickly into industry solutions byANSYS partners and customers. The benefits ofdeploying industry solutions are well understood by ANSYS customers. Additionally, customizationenables capture of design rules and corporate knowledge, resulting in improved productivity. Theextensibility and customization of ANSYS core technologies and out-of-the-box solutions allowANSYS technology and service partners to createbetter value for organizations.

Modular

ANSYS is focused on delivering a modular simulationsystem that is easy to use and able to meet customerneeds. Many customers begin by installing ANSYSup-front simulation tools – developed for designersand engineers – to simulate components with behavior governed primarily by single physics, suchas stress or thermal. As the design matures from theearly phases into final verification, there is a need for coupled-field – or multiple physics interaction –simulations, which are required to model and simulate subsystems and systems. This modular architecturemakes ANSYS solutions not only affordable, but also easy to develop, test and maintain. In addition, modular solutions are a relatively low-risk investmentand can expand as value is demonstrated within a company.

Building services designer Olof Granlund Oy of Helsinki, Finland, avoidedextreme temperature variations and improved office comfort by usingANSYS® CFX® software to perform thermal and air flow analysis of a newoffice complex. ANSYS CFX software enabled the designers to provideresults at a high level of accuracy in time to impact the building design.

The ANSYS difference

“ANSYS product offerings provide ideal tools in early product

development for conceptual simulation-based design and were

instrumental in the success of developing the iGen3 digital printing

system. Also, we utilize ANSYS as one of our primary analysis tools

for advanced simulation, particularly in multiphysics applications

where multiple physical factors must be evaluated. In typical product

development programs at Xerox, simulation-based methods using

these types of predictive tools have definitely helped to reduce the

number of prototype testing iterations, each costing tens of thousands

of dollars and weeks of time. In the end, development time and costs

are reduced. But more significantly, our high-quality standards are met

and time to market is shortened in developing innovative winning new

products such as the iGen3. This has enabled Xerox to grow top-line

revenue and increase market share.”

Dr. Korhan SevenlerDirector, Product Lifecycle ManagementXerox Corporation

For many companies, developing products andimproving processes were placed on the back burner as efforts were devoted to cost cutting and maximizingprofits. But today’s corporations have a new sense of urgency about delivering innovative, high-qualityproducts to market faster to gain a competitive edge.Leading companies are re-evaluating their fixed, sequential and hardware-driven development pro-cesses and replacing them with processes that are simulation-driven, information-based and flexible –driving designs from concept to production.

Many of these customers are challenging ANSYS to innovate even faster so they can improve their products and processes with automated and integrated simulations. This is what drives ANSYS, itsstrategy and its vision.

“When tasked with performing a design of experiments (DOE)

study on a new cylinder block for a program with compressed

timing, the Engine NVH Analysis department at Ford Motor

Company turned to ANSYS meshing solutions. The DOE

required engineers to build 17 different finite element models

of the cylinder block in order to evaluate all the design

variables. Without ANSYS, each block model would have

taken more than a week to complete. With ANSYS meshing

solutions, Ford completed two models per day, resulting in

completing a DOE study in time to have the first prototype

blocks contain the best combination of all design features.”

Driving designfrom concept to production

“The ANSYS® WorkbenchTM interface is amazingly simple to use compared to other simulation programs.

Also, having Workbench integrated with Autodesk Inventor enables us to easily go from one program to

another, iteratively modifying the design in CAD and performing the simulations in ANSYS. We open up

ANSYS just by clicking on a menu box in Inventor, then hit ‘update’ and the system automatically

imports changes to geometry while keeping all the previous loads and constraints. Otherwise, we would

have to rebuild the simulation model each time. Tight integration between simulation and design lets

us get work done quickly, and gives us the freedom to try out different creative ideas. This enables

simulation to be a routine part of product development from concept to final design.”

“With ANSYS CFX, we were able to design a fan in only one month where it would have

taken at least three months using the traditional build and design approach. The key to

achieving these results was the use of CFX for turbomachinery design and analysis.”
