Answer 2: As we can see the DMG case, China is a country filled with people who will not do things without any fees. This may call bribery in some countries, but it is usual in China. In China there are huge impacts of guanxi, which means relationships. At first, Dan Mintz, the founder of DMG, struggled because of not having any contact and not knowing the Mandarin language. Later on, he made and refined guanxiang, relationship network, through two young Chinese, and emerged as one of the Chinas fastest growing advertising agencies. In this case it shows that culture is an important implement to a company doing business in China. These two Guanxi and Guanxiang are really important loyalty, reciprocal obligations, and honesty in dealing with each other that drives business in China. Dan Mintz considers that guanxi and guanxiwang are significant because they facilitate companies to get around restrictions that limit the ability of companies to function. In the case, DNG worked on campaign for Volkwagen and they used traditional Chinese characters, which made the campaign banned. But, they managed to get the permission via high-level government. Again, in another scenario, DMG filmed inside Beijings Forbidden City, even though it is against the law to do so, through the government contacts. Even, Mintz quoted that, We dont stop when we come across regulations. There are restrictions everywhere you go. You have to know how get around them and things done. The companies that attempt to pursue all of the rules of ethics will struggle to do business in China.
