2013 has been another exciting and fulfilling year for the Community Sports foundation

(CSF), supporting more and more people across Norfolk.

The Premier League Charitable Fund supported the Premier League 4 Sport project,

School Sport Programmes, Primary School Enterprise projects and the introduction of

the new Kicks project in Great Yarmouth, which also receives support from our own

Sporting Light Appeal.

Each of these, along with our many other projects, allows us and the Football Club to

embrace the community and make a huge impact on the lives of local people.

2013 saw significant growth in a number of areas that included School Sports

participation and the Player Development Centre programme. With greater remit to

increase the talent pool, we took the opportunity to extend our current boys & girls

football offer. The Player Development Centre has provided for some 19 years, an

excellent training opportunity for our local players. Many have progressed in into the

Academy and into high levels of football through the years. Many have progressed

into employment with us and now become the coaches of the future. We are very

proud of our local football offer and look forward to future development for both the

programme itself and many of the participants that are quite clearly progressing and

growing whilst within it.

Our National Citizen Service (NCS) programme delivered with Reed in Partnership,

continues to be a very rewarding and memorable experience for Year 11 (School

Leavers) students. Over 300 young people attended a unique residential and

community engagement programme. Some really excellent volunteer work took place

and made a huge difference to a number of communities across Norfolk.

This year, the awareness and support for the Sporting Light Appeal charity has grown

considerably with our pinnacle fundraising event Jamie’s Game. The celebrity football

match attracted nearly 8,000 people to Carrow Road and was a huge success raising

over £60,000. Many thanks to businesses and local people who have supported the

appeal through challenges or donations.

With the breadth of new programmes that the charity has developed this year, we have

continued to invest in our staff training and development to ensure that the quality of

our delivery remains the highest it can be. We also plan to continue to develop young

coaches with potential.

In May we lost one of our own, Ben Parkin. We would like to take this moment to

remember our friend and colleague who made such an impact on the Norwich City

Power Wheelchair team. Finally I would like to thank our ever growing team of staff,

volunteers and our trustees that show great dedication and passion to strive to make a

difference in Norfolk every day through the power of sport.

Welcome

Joe’s story

Joe is a 15-year-old from Great Yarmouth; a town ranked among the 10% of most deprived areas in the UK, with incredibly poor prospects of employment and education for 16-24 year-olds.

Small for his age, Joe suffered from a lack of confidence and was struggling to settle into his new school, leading to two spells of temporary exclusion.

Joe began Kicks sessions and the coaches quickly identified Joe as a young footballer with potential. They encouraged him to attend trials at a top team and eventually, Joe secured a place in the Community Sports Foundation’s Player Development Centre.

Joe continues to attend Kicks and is a leader that encourages others to follow his example. Kicks coaches and Joe’s schoolteachers have reported the huge change in Joe as a person, student and footballer.

Charlie’s up for the Challenge

When Aylsham High School took up the

Premier League Enterprise Challenge, one

member of the team, with limited interest

in football, jumped at the chance to

improve her skills with the help of Norwich

City.

Charlie, a student in year 11, was a

member of the team that devised a

mobile application to improve the

matchday experience for Norwich City

fans at Carrow Road.

The development stages of the project

saw the team liaise with key club staff to

produce a product that would take them

to the challenge national finals at Villa

Park.

Charlie was an instrumental member of

the group and impressed Chief Executive

David McNally, which led to a part time

job with Norwich City as a match day host

for the Media team - a rare opportunity

for a student of Charlie’s age.

The impact made on Charlie by the

programme has also seen her develop a

keen interest in Norwich City and she has

attended several games since the finals.

Foundation Income 2013

The financial stability of the charity is crucial to the

Foundations long-term sustainability. This year saw

CSF’s income increase from £1.79million in 2012 to

£2.2million in 2013.

This increase is due to securing new contracts and

grants from programmes including The National Citizen

Service, Schools and Health. In addition the football

programme has increased the number of players it

develops and the number of sessions it provides on a

weekly basis.

The Foundation’s long term financial strategy is to

secure income from different sources including

fundraising, customers and contracts and grants. We

are pleased to report that in 2013 fundraising through

the Sporting Light Appeal represented 10% of the

charities total income, an increase from 7% in 2012.

Contracts and grants also represented 64% compared

to 62% in 2012.

Overall with the positive growth of the charity in 2013

means that the Foundation are in a strong financial

position to continue to grow and support more people

in the local community in 2014. Our reserve fund is

designated to future exciting projects.
